KEY GAME INFORMATION
NY RANGERS: LAST SEASON: 45-31-6, 96 points. Finished 2nd in Metropolitan Division, 5th in Eastern Conference. Lost to Los Angeles Kings in Stanley Cup finals.
COACH: Alain Vigneault, 2nd season with Rangers (45-31-6); 13th overall in NHL (467-319-102).
ADDED: D Dan Boyle, D Mike Kostka, D Matt Hunwick, C Chris Mueller, LW Tanner Glass, G Cedrick Desjardins, C Matthew Lombardi, RW Lee Stempniak, LW Ryan Malone.
LOST: C Brad Richards, RW Derek Dorsett, C Brian Boyle, D Anton Stralman, LW Benoit Pouliot, D Justin Falk, RW Arron Asham, LW Daniel Carcillo, D Raphael Diaz, C Darroll Powe.
PLAYER TO WATCH: Rick Nash. The top forward will be looking to bounce back from a disappointing postseason in which the 2002 No. 1 draft notched only three goals and 10 points in 25 games and heard boos from the crowd. The 30-year-old left wing has come to training camp looking thinner and fitter as he heads into his third season with the Rangers. Nash has four seasons left for big money on his current contract, so there is plenty of time for him to win over the Madison Square Garden faithful.
OUTLOOK: The Rangers will go as far as goalie Henrik Lundqvist, ''The King,'' will take them. The team has undergone major changes since the run to the finals, but with the strong core of returning veterans such as Nash, Martin St. Louis, and defensemen Dan Girardi and Ryan McDonagh, fortified by newcomers Dan Boyle, Lee Stempniak and Ryan Malone, New York could again be a tough out in the playoffs. A new captain is expected to be announced at the start of the season to replace the trio of alternate captains that took leadership roles after former captain Ryan Callahan was traded to Tampa Bay late last season for St. Louis.
NEW JERSEY: LAST SEASON: 35-29-18, 88 points. Missed the playoffs by finishing 10th in the Eastern Conference.
COACH: Peter DeBoer, 4th season with Devils (102-76-34); 7th overall in NHL (205-183-70).
ADDED: LW Mike Cammalleri, LW Martin Havlat, C Scott Gomez, G Scott Clemmensen.
LOST: G Martin Brodeur, D Anton Volchenkov, D Mark Fayne.
PLAYER TO WATCH: Jaromir Jagr. Led the team in scoring with 24 goals and 43 assists in remarkable season in which he played in all 82. Can he do it again at 42-years-old. If he does, the Devils have a shot at getting back into the playoffs for the first time since reaching NHL Finals in 2011-12.
OUTLOOK: After finishing with fourth fewest goals in the league, the Devils hope free-agent signees Cammalleri (26 goals) and Havlat (12 goals in 48 games) can boost the scoring, along with Adam Henrique, who scored a career-high 25-goals last season. With Broduer not re-signed, Cory Schnedier will get most of the work in goal after posting a 1.97 goals against average in 46 games last season. Defense allowed 208 goals, ninth best in the league.

*Rangers-Devils Preview* ========================

By NOEY KUPCHAN STATS Writer

New York (3-3-0) at New Jersey (3-2-0), 7:00 p.m. EDT

The New York Rangers appear to be on track after an early slump, and they'll try to make it three wins in a row Tuesday night when they visit a New Jersey Devils team that is coming off its first two losses.

The Rangers (3-3-0) had been outscored 17-8 during a three-game losing streak before Henrik Lundqvist stopped 29 shots in Thursday's 2-1 shootout win over Carolina. The former Vezina Trophy winner stepped up again Sunday with 33 saves in a 4-0 victory over San Jose.

"It was probably our most complete game of the year," said Lundqvist, who extended his franchise record with shutout No. 51. "The last couple of games we have been playing better as a group and making smart decisions."

Rick Nash notched his team-leading seventh goal while Martin St. Louis, Carl Hagelin and rookie Kevin Hayes scored for the first time. Dominic Moore added two assists after going pointless in the first five games.

"I think we're coming to our house and helping our goalie out," Nash told the NHL's official website. "We're locking the middle down. We're not giving up the chances that we did in the first couple of games."

The Devils opened with three consecutive victories but have since suffered back-to-back defeats, including 4-2 to San Jose in Saturday's home opener.

New Jersey (3-2-0) trailed 3-0 in the third period before Michael Cammalleri and Adam Henrique scored in a span of 4:10, but the Sharks put the game away with an empty-net goal.

"You can feel pretty good about yourself one day and it seems like not too many hours later you're sitting here with two losses in a row and you're on a streak the other way," said Cammalleri, who has five goals and two assists.

Cory Schneider has started every game, allowing eight goals over the last two. He is 1-1-0 with a 0.86 goals-against average in three appearances against the Rangers, including a 4-0 home victory last Oct. 19.

Lundqvist has compiled a 1.87 GAA in going 30-14-6 against the Devils, his most wins against any club. He's seeking a third consecutive road victory in the series after winning 2-0 on March 22.

Nash has scored in each of his last three visits to New Jersey, giving him five goals over a six-game stretch in the series.

Cammalleri has seven goals and nine assists in his last 10 games against the Rangers. Containing him could prove all the more difficult without defenseman Dan Girardi, who is listed as day to day with a cut on his lower leg.

"It would be a huge concern (if Girardi can't play)," Nash told the Rangers' official website. "Any time anyone goes down in our lineup it's tough for everyone else. It's obvious that he's a huge piece to this puzzle."

New Jersey's Martin Havlat is also uncertain to be available after missing Saturday's game due to facial lacerations.

The Devils haven't dropped their first two home games in regulation since going 0-3-0 in 2009-10.
