| | | PHILADELPHIA: He looked like anything but an NBA-caliber player, let along a lottery pick, in Sacto last season, but that won't keep Nik Stauskas from getting minutes in Tankadelphia. If nothing else, Sauce Castillo could be the three-point threat the Sixers have lacked . . . At the point, it's anyone's guess. Tony Wroten is coming off a torn ACL; considering quickness and athleticism were his strengths, that's not good . . .
Isaiah Canaan is a steady but unspectacular option at the point. He's more spot-up shooter than creator . . . Adding Kendall Marshall was an under-the-radar move for this team. He's a good passer and can hit the outside shot on occasion. He could be an interesting fit once he is recovered from his torn ACL . . . Robert Covington came out of nowhere to provide the Sixers with a respectable 3-and-D threat. He'll pile up corner threes if he gets consistent minutes again . . . Philly is looking for improvement from Jerami Grant, who could step into the starting lineup as a stretch 4 if his shooting improves . . . Hollis Thompson is a Tankadelphia lifer . . . Carl Landry is unlikely to do much of anything in Philly when comes back from wrist surgery in January. . . Richaun Holmes is a project with some athlticism and size . . . J.P. Tokoto is an athletic glue guy who profiles as a D-League lifer. Nerlens Noel is the lone gem on this team. He's a solid rim protector who is making strides on offense . . . Jahlil Okafor is already Philly's best offensive threat. Unfortunately, he'll also be one of the league's worst defenders and can't make a free throw . . . It could be over before it started for Joel Embiid, whose never-ending foot problems could sideline him all season. | | WASHINGTON: A playoff wrist injury was about the only thing that slowed John Wall last year. He's in for another monster season . . . Bradley Beal continues to rely on midrange shooting more than anyone would like, but he showed some ability as a playmaker as well as a shooter last year. Durability is always a concern . . . They stole a solid 3-and-D player from the cash-strapped Nets in Alan Anderson, whose bum ankle could sideline him a couple of weeks . . . Shoot-first combo guard Ramon Sessions struggled last season, and is on the verge of dropping out of the rotation . . . Gary Neal is a similar player to Sessions, coming off a similarly awful year . . . Garrett Temple is kicking around as a low-risk, defense-first third point guard. Otto Porter steps into the starting lineup. He does a little bit of everything, but he's a fifth option on offense . . . Nen' is at a crossroads. The Wizards want a stretch 4 to pair with Marcin Gortat, especially after Nen's playoff struggles . . . Kris Humphries is trying to earn his way back into the rotation by adding a corner three . . . Jared Dudley is another 3-and-D option, though he'll be slowed early in the year after back surgery . . . Drew Gooden will be mostly bottled up in the regular season to stay fresh for the playoffs . . . Kelly Oubre is looking at a couple years of learning from the bench . . . Last year it was a back injury for Martell Webster. There's no telling what'if anything'he'll give the Wiz going forward. It was an up-and-down year for Marcin Gortat, and this summer he blamed it on personal issues. Washington is committed to him, and when he's going good he's a great pick-and-roll partner for John Wall . . . DeJuan Blair will surface occasionally to fill minutes banging down low.
