| | | INDIANA: GUARDS: The Pacers went 7-2 during the regular season and won a playoff series with GEORGE HILL in the starting five. He averaged 13.9 PPG and 5.3 APG in those regular season starts . . . PAUL GEORGE is a defensive stopper who is making strides on the offensive end. If he can find the touches, his scoring average will rise . . . D.J. AUGUSTIN has a skill set similar to Hill's. Maybe he'll push him for minutes later in the year, but more likely he'll shoot corner threes off the bench . . . GERALD GREEN is another athlete for their second unit . . . LANCE STEPHENSON has a chance for a bigger role, but he's been atrocious to this point of his career. FORWARDS: DANNY GRANGER's touches dropped last season, but his shot selection improved as last year went on. He'll continue to be a borderline All-Star . . . DAVID WEST's knee should be fully recovered from his torn ACL in late 2010-11. He was their best player in the postseason and should be a star this season with his ability to knock down shots . . . TYLER HANSBROUGH looks like he's settling in as a career second unit player. His lack of athleticism really limits his upside . . . JEFF PENDERGRAPH may or may not hold on to a roster spot in a 12th-man role. CENTERS: They're paying ROY HIBBERT like a franchise player, and he has the ability to control both ends of the court. The question is whether they'll now play him 30-plus minutes, or continue to use him as more of a part-time player . . . IAN MAHINMI should step in as a decent backup center . . . Rookie MILES PLUMLEE was a part-time player at Duke and is highly unlikely to contribute in his first season. | | PHILADELPHIA: GUARDS: JRUE HOLIDAY is knocking on the door of All-Star status. He's excellent defensively, though his stats sometimes sag because of Philly's deliberate style . . . JASON RICHARDSON gives them some shooting on the wing, but may see his minutes fade if he can't play the kind of defense Collins demands . . . Swingman EVAN TURNER is an intriguing but flawed player. He doesn't quite have the offensive repertoire to be a primary scorer, and he'll continue to get inconsistent minutes as Collins plays to matchups on the wings . . . NICK YOUNG will have something of a lesser sixth-man role than Lou Williams used to have . . . As an offensively-limited but athletic, defensive-minded guard, ROYAL IVEY is the kind of bench player Collins looks for. FORWARDS: Even with Elton Brand gone, THADDEUS YOUNG will play more of a part-time role. Collins has never seemed satisfied with his talented young 'tweener, and Spencer Hawes is expected to slide to the four alongside Andrew Bynum . . . DORELL WRIGHT brings some much needed shooting on the wing. He plays the kind of defense Collins demands and, if his shot is on, he should be close to a 30-MPG player despite his struggles in Golden State last season . . . LAVOY ALLEN is a serviceable reserve big. He'll see few minutes off the bench unless Bynum gets hurt . . . ARNETT MOULTRIE fits the Sixers mold as an athlete. He could be a regular in the rotation by midseason. CENTERS: Maybe ANDREW BYNUM will be happier moving back to the east coast. As long as his knees hold up, he's an All-Star lock . . . SPENCER HAWES will actually play a lot of four this year. He's an offensively-capable 7-footer who's also become a much better rebounder over the past couple seasons . . . KWAME BROWN will be sparingly used as a big body who can move on the defensive end. |

*Pacers-76ers Preview* ======================
By TAYLOR BECHTOLD STATS Writer
Indiana (40-25) at Philadelphia (24-40), 7:30 p.m. EDT
The Indiana Pacers' outstanding defense faltered in their latest game, allowing 83 points over the final three quarters.
The Philadelphia 76ers haven't come close to averaging 83 points a game against the Pacers this season.
The Pacers will try to beat the 76ers for the third straight time and win their fifth in six road games overall when the teams meet Saturday night.
After winning 10 of 12, Indiana (40-25) has endured a bumpy ride while splitting its last eight contests. The Pacers lost for the third time in five home games on Friday, 99-93 to a Lakers team that played without Kobe Bryant over the final three quarters.
Los Angeles, however, got going without him. The Lakers shot 49.1 percent from the field after the opening 12 minutes and hit 13 of 26 3s overall against a Pacers team that leads the league in defensive field-goal percentage (41.7) and in defending the 3 (32.6).
"Guarding the 3-point line was probably the biggest of the mental breakdowns," coach Frank Vogel said. "We left shooters left and right, a variety of different ways. We didn't play a good basketball game."
George Hill had a game-high 27 points and Paul George added 20, but David West and Roy Hibbert combined for just 15 points on 7-of-25 shooting. As a team, the Pacers shot 37.4 percent.
Indiana's up-and-down offense has been part of the team's recent troubles. The Pacers have averaged 106.1 points on 50.1 percent shooting in their eight wins since the All-Star break, but have scored 89.0 per game while shooting just 39.1 percent in their four losses.
George, who shot just 31.0 percent from the field in those defeats, had a game-high 28 points and hit 5 of 7 from 3-point range in a 95-85 home win over the 76ers on Dec. 14.
With George shooting just 4 of 13 in the second meeting, Roy Hibbert stepped up with 18 points, 14 rebounds and five blocks in an 88-69 victory in Philadelphia on Feb. 6.
The 76ers have shot 38.6 percent - including 5 of 20 from 3-point range - in the season series.
After dropping 12 of 13, Philadelphia (24-40) pulled out a 106-97 victory over Brooklyn on Monday and nearly ended Miami's then-19-game winning streak before falling 98-94 on Wednesday.
Thaddeus Young finished with 24 points and 15 rebounds against the Heat, while Jrue Holiday scored 21 with seven boards and seven assists.
"I thought we executed, got some shots at the end, and just couldn't quite find a way to get over the top," coach Doug Collins said.
Young, who missed the February loss to the Pacers with a hamstring injury, is playing well heading into this meeting. He's averaging 22.8 points on 68.9 percent shooting and 10.0 rebounds over his last four contests.
Holiday sat out the December loss with a sprained foot, and missed 15 of 22 shots while committing five turnovers in last month's defeat.
With Young back and leading the way, the 76ers have played much better on the offensive end at home lately. They've scored 101.3 points per game in their last four in Philadelphia, 7.3 more than they average there.
The Pacers have won their last two visits to the Wells Fargo Center and four of five overall in this series.
