KEY GAME INFORMATION
MILWAUKEE: GUARDS: BRANDON JENNINGS benefitted from the arrival of Monta Ellis last year. He has the offense and system to thrive, and now needs to prove he can be efficient enough to be a star . . . MONTA ELLIS played second fiddle to Jennings last year, and really struggled to shoot the ball. The Bucks now play the kind of tempo he likes, but he'll have to adjust to playing off the ball more often . . . BENO UDRIH won't see a ton of action off the bench considering Jennings and Ellis play so many minutes. If a starter gets hurt, he could step in and hit a lot of threes . . . Second-rounder DORON LAMB has some upside as a future sixth man, but figures to ride the bench this year once his torn elbow ligament heals. FORWARDS: ERSAN ILYASOVA should finally get some respect from Skiles after starring down the stretch last year . . . MIKE DUNLEAVY re-emerged as a legitimate three-point threat, though he doesn't do much else . . . DREW GOODEN's role should shrink with Ilyasova stepping up and Sam Dalembert coming in . . . LUC RICHARD MBAH a MOUTE is coming off knee surgery, but he's improving as a rebounder and can play both forward spots off the bench . . . Rookie JOHN HENSON is a defensive stud and does enough as a screener to get decent minutes early . . . TOBIAS HARRIS was a Summer League star, but he's too much of a 'tweener to thrive in the NBA . . . EKPE UDOH provides defense and rebounding off the bench . . . LARRY SANDERS has potential, but this frontcourt is too crowded for him to make an impact. CENTERS: SAM DALEMBERT fell in and out of favor in Houston, but he's exactly what the Bucksneed as a defensive presence in the paint. Milwaukee has numerous players who can man the five in spots (Ekpe Udoh, Drew Gooden), but Dalembert is by far their best defensive option and should see big minutes . . . JOEL PRZYBILLA signed on in August to provide back-end depth on the pine.
NEW ORLEANS: GUARDS: This offense will belong to ERIC GORDON. He'll get over the fact that the Hornets matched his offer from Phoenix, and as long as his surgically-repaired knee holds up, he's one of the most complete young scorers in the NBA . . . The Hornets reached for AUSTIN RIVERS with the 10th pick because Monty Williams wants to coach him and thinks he can be an NBA point guard. Rivers has the handle, but his athleticism is ordinary and, more importantly, he has never shown a PG mentality at any level . . . GREIVIS VASQUEZ is the closest thing to a true point guard on this roster. He'll see solid minutes assuming Rivers' adjustment is a tough one . . . Well-rounded ROGER MASON JR. will also provide point guard depth . . . XAVIER HENRY hasn't lived up to his reputation as a shooter, but the Hornets can be patient with him . . . Rookie BRIAN ROBERTS has had a strong enough preseason to likely earn a roster spot. FORWARDS: ANTHONY DAVIS should step right in as a starter. His offensive game is further along than he gets credit for, and on the defensive end he's an absolute force from the basket out to the perimeter . . . He'll probably miss having Dwight Howard drawing in defenses, but RYAN ANDERSON has always been a very good three-point shooter. He and Davis are unique enough talents to share the court even if they're both power forwards . . . AL-FAROUQ AMINU made some strides on the defensive end late last season, which is what will get him minutes under Williams. He's underwhelming on the offensive end . . . If HAKIM WARRICK couldn't succeed as Steve Nash's pick-and-roll partner, it seems unlikely he'll ever help in New Orleans . . . Rookie DARIUS MILLER is looking to establish some kind of role with the team . . . LANCE THOMAS is doubtful to earn a salary to pay off his jewelry debts. CENTERS: ROBIN LOPEZ has always had the ability to protect the rim and does a decent job in space. Look for him to end up grabbing the bulk of minutes in the middle . . . JASON SMITH gives the Hornets a more offensive-minded option off the bench.

*Bucks-Hornets Preview* =======================

By ALAN FERGUSON STATS Writer

Milwaukee (8-7) at New Orleans (4-11), 8:00 p.m. EDT

With Larry Sanders content to provide a spark off the bench, the Milwaukee Bucks got back into the win column.

Sanders will try to help the Bucks again as they seek back-to-back victories for the first time in two-plus weeks and attempt to end a lengthy road losing streak to the struggling New Orleans Hornets on Monday night.

After dropping five of six, Milwaukee (8-7) fell behind 17-0 early to Boston on Saturday before pulling out a 91-88 victory. Sanders provided a career-high 18 points, 16 rebounds and five blocks after turning down the opportunity for his first NBA start since March 16, 2011.

"I embrace that role, coming off the bench and trying to provide energy, whether we are down or whether we are up. That's where I plan on staying," Sanders said.

That performance came one day after he recorded first career triple-double and matched Kareem Abdul-Jabbar's franchise record with 10 blocks.

"Larry Sanders is on his way to being player of the week if he keeps this up. I'm really excited for him," guard Brandon Jennings said.

To cap their most recent win streak, the Bucks defeated their next opponent 117-113 on Nov. 17. Monta Ellis scored six of his 22 points in the final two minutes of that third consecutive victory and Jennings also had 22 as Milwaukee snapped a three-game skid to the Hornets (4-11).

The Bucks will now try to end a 10-game losing streak in New Orleans, where they did not play last season due to the lockout.

Like the Bucks, the Hornets have struggled since a solid start, losing four in a row at home and nine of 10 overall. With its 100-79 defeat to Oklahoma City on Saturday, New Orleans allowed an opponent to reach the century mark for the eighth time in the past nine games.

"A lot of this falls on my shoulders," coach Monty Williams said. "You have to get guys ready to play. You have to help them believe. You have to be the performance enhancer, and that's my job.

"You can't always blame the players. Some of our guys are trying their best. I have to put them in position to succeed."

The Hornets have allowed an average of 105.1 points over that stretch, and the absence of No. 1 overall pick Anthony Davis hasn't helped. The forward, who was averaging 16.0 points, 8.3 rebounds and 2.2 blocks, has missed the past seven games because of an injured left ankle and his timetable for returning is unknown.

"I air on the side of caution, especially when the guy really wants to play," Williams said before Saturday's game. "I have to be his brains."

Davis had a season-high 28 points and 11 rebounds in his most recent game, the loss to the Bucks, while Sanders totaled four points, six rebounds and three blocks for Milwaukee.

The Bucks earned their most recent road win over the Hornets on Jan. 27, 2003.
