KEY GAME INFORMATION
GOLDEN STATE: GUARDS: New head coach Steve Kerr doesn't figure to tweak this system much, so expect STEPHEN CURRY to keep doing his thing. He's added elite playmaking skills to his already outstanding deep shooting . . . The Warriors are reluctant to part with KLAY THOMPSON in part because of his three-point shooting, but mostly because of his defensive value alongside Curry . . . SHAUN LIVINGSTON will back up both guard spots. He's also the only proven point guard on the roster besides Curry . . . BRANDON RUSH will look to revive his career in Oakland. He'll have to prove his knees are healthy enough before he earns a rotation spot . . . It's a make or break year already for NEMANJA NEDOVIC, who was severely overmatched as a rookie. FORWARDS: ANDRE IGUODALA is a defensive specialist and no more than a role player on offense. His main job is to take some of the playmaking duties away from Curry . . . Kerr seems resigned to the fact that he's stuck with DAVID LEE. He has some value on offense, but remains one of the league's worst defensive frontcourt players. Expect him to lose some minutes under Kerr . . . HARRISON BARNES will play a bit of power forward in some small lineups, but mostly he'll play a wing spot. Barnes will have to regain his confidence early if he's going to be an impact sixth man . . . Kerr has hinted at a bigger role for DRAYMOND GREEN, who will play some stretch-4 this year . . . MARREESE SPEIGHTS gives them an offense-only big man off the bench. CENTERS: Kerr has hinted at a bigger offensive role for ANDREW BOGUT. But monitoring the Aussie's minutes may be the bigger goal, to ensure he's actually available for the postseason . . . Back-up center FESTUS EZELI should be ready to return from his knee injury, though he was having shin problems during Summer League.
CHARLOTTE: GUARDS: LANCE STEPHENSON started chucking and padding stats after missing the All-Star team last season, fueling Indiana's collapse. He's a potentially solid role player, but if he tries to be the alpha for the Hornets, it could be a long season . . . KEMBA WALKER has become a solid playmaker, though he'll lose some touches while playing alongside Stephenson . . . The Hornets seem to be done with GERALD HENDERSON, who will stay in the rotation, but see a reduced role with all the Hornets' offseason acquisitions . . . GARY NEAL can play both guard spots as a high-scoring sixth man . . . P.J. HAIRSTON needs to stay out of trouble off the court if he's to have any chance of becoming a three-point specialist off the bench . . . BRIAN ROBERTS steps in as a No. 3 point guard. FORWARDS: Charlotte reloaded in the frontcourt, but MICHAEL KIDD-GILCHRIST will likely claim a starting job due to his defense. It's probably time to accept that MKG will never have much of an offensive game . . . CODY ZELLER will have every opportunity to grab a starting job early on. Unfortunately, his inability to score in traffic limits his effectiveness . . . MARVIN WILLIAMS will see major minutes at both forward spots. He's a capable defender who has added a three-point shot to his repertoire . . . He's still a teenager, so he may not carve out major minutes this year, but NOAH VONLEH has by far the most upside among their 4's and 5's. He's a potentially elite stretch-4 . . . JEFF TAYLOR's Achilles is close to 100 percent. He has a shot to re-claim a rotation spot. CENTERS: AL JEFFERSON is a flawed player, but he gives Charlotte exactly what the team is looking for: A low-post threat on the offensive end of the court. Like Walker, he'll also suffer a bit with Stephenson coming in, but he's still the focal point of this offense . . . He's not quite a bust because he can defend, but BISMACK BIYOMBO hasn't shown any semblance of an offensive game.

*Warriors-Hornets Preview* ==========================

By NOEY KUPCHAN STATS Writer

Golden State (11-2) at Charlotte (4-11), 7:00 p.m. EDT

For as good as the Golden State Warriors have been over the last two weeks, the last-place Charlotte Hornets have been equally as bad.

The visiting Warriors try to extend their winning streak to eight and hand the Hornets an eight consecutive defeat Friday night.

Golden State (12-2) has outscored opponents by an average of 14.9 points during its run after winning 111-96 at Orlando on Wednesday. Stephen Curry had 28 points to lead seven players in double figures for the Warriors, who shot at least 50.0 percent for the fifth time in six games.

"Right now I think we have a pretty high level of tunnel vision to stay in the moment, cherish every opportunity to play," Curry said. "We're winning in different styles, everybody's getting involved and you enjoy that as you go along."

Curry was even better the night before, scoring a season-high 40 points in a 114-97 rout at Miami. He's gone a combined 21 of 32 from the floor over the last two games, including a remarkable 14 of 19 from 3-point range.

Curry leads the NBA in made 3s, going 49 for 109 from long distance.

"I always think he's going to make every shot. That's what you expect. He's got the most beautiful rhythm to his shot that I've ever seen," coach Steve Kerr said.

Curry finished with 19 points and nine assists as Golden State cruised past Charlotte 112-87 on Nov. 15, the Warriors' third win in five meetings in the series. Klay Thompson scored 21 that night as Golden State shot 51.7 percent.

"There are only a few teams in the league that can get hot like that," Hornets center Al Jefferson said afterward. "They just make you pay on every mistake."

That defeat proved to be the first of seven in a row for Charlotte (4-12), which has averaged just 90.7 points during its skid. The Hornets saw their woes continue in Wednesday's 105-97 loss to red-hot Portland.

Brian Roberts broke out with a career-high 24 points off the bench while Jefferson added 21 and 14 rebounds. The Hornets had 29 assists and six turnovers, but they were done in after getting outscored 34-20 in the third quarter.

"We just started the third quarter with nothing, obviously. No intensity, no purpose, no organization," coach Steve Clifford said. "Before we can play well, we have to stand for the right things. ... We have a prideful group, they want to win - I'm not worried about that. We have to find a way to win."

The Hornets haven't tasted victory since a 103-95 win at Phoenix on Nov. 14.

Aside from forward Michael Kidd-Gilchrist (foot), Charlotte was without Gary Neal due to a sprained shoulder. Marvin Williams exited in the second quarter with a similar injury, leaving his status for Friday unclear.

Kemba Walker has scored 16 or fewer points in each of the last seven games while shooting 33.7 percent. He finished with eight on 3-of-14 shooting against Golden State.

The Hornets are 3-0 when Walker scores at least 18 compared to 1-12 when he doesn't.

Curry, who grew up in Charlotte, is averaging 25.7 points against the Hornets for his third-highest mark against any team. He scored 43 in his last visit, a 115-111 loss Dec. 9.

The Warriors have dropped 11 of the last 15 road meetings in the series.
