| | | GOLDEN STATE: GUARDS: New head coach Steve Kerr doesn't figure to tweak this system much, so expect STEPHEN CURRY to keep doing his thing. He's added elite playmaking skills to his already outstanding deep shooting . . . The Warriors are reluctant to part with KLAY THOMPSON in part because of his three-point shooting, but mostly because of his defensive value alongside Curry . . . SHAUN LIVINGSTON will back up both guard spots. He's also the only proven point guard on the roster besides Curry . . . BRANDON RUSH will look to revive his career in Oakland. He'll have to prove his knees are healthy enough before he earns a rotation spot . . . It's a make or break year already for NEMANJA NEDOVIC, who was severely overmatched as a rookie. FORWARDS: ANDRE IGUODALA is a defensive specialist and no more than a role player on offense. His main job is to take some of the playmaking duties away from Curry . . . Kerr seems resigned to the fact that he's stuck with DAVID LEE. He has some value on offense, but remains one of the league's worst defensive frontcourt players. Expect him to lose some minutes under Kerr . . . HARRISON BARNES will play a bit of power forward in some small lineups, but mostly he'll play a wing spot. Barnes will have to regain his confidence early if he's going to be an impact sixth man . . . Kerr has hinted at a bigger role for DRAYMOND GREEN, who will play some stretch-4 this year . . . MARREESE SPEIGHTS gives them an offense-only big man off the bench. CENTERS: Kerr has hinted at a bigger offensive role for ANDREW BOGUT. But monitoring the Aussie's minutes may be the bigger goal, to ensure he's actually available for the postseason . . . Back-up center FESTUS EZELI should be ready to return from his knee injury, though he was having shin problems during Summer League. | | BROOKLYN: GUARDS: Even after Paul Pierce came to Brooklyn, JOE JOHNSON remained the clear-cut No. 1 option in Brooklyn. Their offense figures to feature Johnson backing down defenders frequently again this year . . . DERON WILLIAMS seems to be deteriorating rapidly, struggling to stay healthy and losing confidence . . . JARRETT JACK figures to take Shaun Livingston's old role, playing alongside Williams often to take ball-handling duties off his plate . . . ALAN ANDERSON will see time at both wing spots as a defensive specialist who shoots some corner threes . . . SERGEY KARASEV has some long-term upside, but will do little this year . . . MARQUIS TEAGUE figures to have the edge on MARKEL BROWN for the No. 3 PG job. FORWARDS: With Paul Pierce gone, MIRZA TELETOVIC has a chance to take on a bigger role. He held his own defensively last year and provides another deep threat to space the floor . . . There's no telling what, if anything, they'll get out of ANDREI KIRILENKO this season. He seems to be at a point in his career when he's just not going to be able to stay healthy . . . BOJAN BOGDANOVIC should give Brooklyn some additional offensive firepower off the bench. He'll likely be a regular in the rotation by midseason . . . KEVIN GARNETT figures to play a bit more at the 4 alongside Brook Lopez, but there's pretty much no gas left in the tank for this 38-year-old player . . . Second-round pick CORY JEFFERSON is likely ticketed for the D-League. CENTERS: The Nets desperately need a healthy BROOK LOPEZ if they're going to win the Atlantic Division, but they'll have to monitor his minutes closely after another season lost to injury . . . With Lopez healthy, MASON PLUMLEE will resume his natural role as an energy guy off the bench. |

*Warriors-Nets Preview* =======================
By ALAN FERGUSON STATS Writer
Golden State (46-11) at Brooklyn (24-33), 7:30 p.m. EDT
The Brooklyn Nets will try to take advantage of a season-high five consecutive home games and create some separation in a competitive Eastern Conference playoff race.
With the league-leading Golden State Warriors in town Monday night, a positive start to their stay at the Barclays Center won't be easy.
Brooklyn (24-33) is hoping to use its time on its own court to begin breaking free of a six-team pack that's competing for the East's final two spots. The Nets enter Monday tied with Charlotte for ninth place, just three percentage points behind eighth-place Indiana.
They are also just a game ahead of Boston in 11th and two in front of Detroit.
Brooklyn will face the Hornets on Wednesday night after playing their first game on their own court since Feb. 6, but won't see another East team in the homestand. The Nets then play 17 of their final 20 games against their own conference.
Brooklyn aided its postseason chances by avoiding a third straight loss Saturday with a 104-94 win over Dallas to wrap up a 3-5 road trip. Deron Williams led the way with 25 points, his most since a season-high 29 on Nov. 7.
The Nets, who won 15 straight games at home last season, haven't won three consecutive contests on their home floor this season - something they can change Monday.
"We've got to make a statement and start building something at home," coach Lionel Hollins said of his team, which is 10-15 at the Barclays Center. "We haven't been a very good home team. We need to go home and excite the Brooklyn fans. ... We want to get the fans involved and make a mad push to get into the playoffs."
A win over Golden State (46-11) would certainly provide some excitement. The Warriors have won four of five in the series, including a 107-99 victory Nov. 13, but have lost 13 of 16 road games against the Nets and three of the last four.
In this visit, they'll try to close out their season-high six-game trip with a third consecutive win after a 1-2 start.
Golden State rallied from a 26-point deficit in the first half Sunday for a 106-101 win over Boston. Stephen Curry had his third-best scoring performance with 37 points and put up 11 in the final 9 1/2 minutes, including four free throws in the last 11 seconds.
"This was a fun challenge for us," coach Steve Kerr said. "If we lost, it wouldn't have been the end of the world. But we were down and we came back. I was happy that we showed good poise."
Curry had 34 points in the Warriors' most recent game in Brooklyn - a 102-98 win Jan. 8, 2014 - and could have had more if he didn't miss eight of 10 from 3-point range. He's scored a combined 62 points in his two games there.
Klay Thompson has shot a subpar 41.4 percent while averaging 15.3 points in his seven career matchups against the Nets but has made 20 of 43 shots from beyond the arc. He went 4 of 13 from inside the arc but 4 of 9 outside it while finishing with 25 points in the November win.
Former Warriors guard Jarrett Jack hit all 10 of his shots in that game and had 23 points. Brook Lopez is averaging 21.3 points in his last six games against Golden State but has missed five of the past seven matchups.
