| | | OKLAHOMA CITY: GUARDS: RUSSELL WESTBROOK is going to likely miss the first 4-to-6 weeks of the regular season after getting another procedure done on Oct. 1 to reduce swelling on his knee. It will probably take him some time to get rid of the rust of not playing all summer . . . THABO SEFOLOSHA should play even more minutes this season with Kevin Martin gone. He has added a three-point shot to his repertoire . . . REGGIE JACKSON could end up absorbing a lot of the minutes that went to James Harden two years ago and Martin last season. But he's nowhere near the offensive threat . . . JEREMY LAMB will push Jackson for that sixth-man role. He's dominated against lesser competition . . . DEREK FISHER will get minutes as a player/coach. FORWARDS: KEVIN DURANT may have to take on an even bigger role in the regular season as the Thunder try to replace Kevin Martin's offensive production. Either way, he's the MVP among the league's non-LeBrons . . . SERGE IBAKA has had his postseason issues and still struggles defensively outside of rim protection, but he has added value with his mid-range shooting . . . NICK COLLISON's biggest skill is his ability to take charges. He'll continue to log big minutes at the four and five as a glue guy . . . One of two very raw young players, PERRY JONES III and ANDRE ROBERSON, has a chance for playing time on a thin team. CENTERS: KENDRICK PERKINS was a disaster in last year's postseason, but still provides the kind of low-post muscle the Thunder look for . . . Rookie STEVEN ADAMS could take over for Perkins down the road, but he's too raw to make an impact this year . . . HASHEEM THABEET fills out the final roster spot. | | BROOKLYN: GUARDS: DERON WILLIAMS will surely take on more of a distributor role this year, but he's still this team's best option from three-point range, as well . . . JOE JOHNSON started to break down last season, so along with fewer shots (with the upgrade to the rest of the roster), he figures to play fewer regular-season minutes as well . . . JASON TERRY is clearly in the decline phase of his career, but is still the top scoring option among Brooklyn's second unit . . . ALAN ANDERSON gives them another shooter off the bench . . . SHAUN LIVINGSTON steps into the back-up point guard spot vacated by C.J. Watson. The injury-prone vet will be one of the more rarely used back-up PGs . . . TYSHAWN TAYLOR will be a non-factor. FORWARDS: PAUL PIERCE still has something left in the tank. While his athleticism is fading, he's still a cagey scorer who can also play some point forward to set up Williams . . . ANDREI KIRILENKO will be a Swiss army knife sixth man and should see plenty of starts as new head coach Jason Kidd rotates which veterans rest . . . REGGIE EVANS was retained for his rebounding ability and willingness to look ridiculous while flopping . . . ANDRAY BLATCHE will continue to settle in as a second-unit big. He's a name to remember for the future, as Kevin Garnett doesn't have much left in the tank . . . MIRZA TELETOVIC will be a seldom-used option as a stretch four . . . TORNIKE SHENGELIA is still years away from contributing, and the influx of veterans will further delay his development. CENTERS: Last year did a lot to assuage durability concerns for BROOK LOPEZ. He's highly skilled, and he may be forced to grab more rebounds now that Reggie Evans is on the second unit . . . KEVIN GARNETT will start at power forward. He's still an effective pick-and-pop shooter and pick-and-roll defender, but he'll have to rest often during the regular season . . . MASON PLUMLEE is in no position to help this season. |

*Thunder-Nets Preview* ======================
By JUSTIN EINHORN STATS Senior Editor
Oklahoma City (37-10) at Brooklyn (20-23), 8:00 p.m. EDT
Standing in the way of the Brooklyn Nets finishing with the NBA's best record in January are the hottest team and player in the league.
Kevin Durant and the Oklahoma City Thunder, coming off a dazzling performance against the defending champions, can record their second double-digit winning streak since moving to the Sooner State as they visit the Nets on Friday night.
Durant's streak of 12 straight games with at least 30 points matches the league's best since Tracy McGrady's run of 14 in 2002-03. His team owns the NBA's longest current win streak at nine, and the only time the Thunder (37-10) have had a better one since leaving Seattle in 2008 was a 12-game run last season.
Both streaks were extended Wednesday when Durant scored 33 as Oklahoma City rallied from an early 18-point deficit and rolled to a 112-95 win in Miami.
"I've scored points before in this league, it's not like this is totally new to me. But this long of a stretch of 30 points, I guess, is different for me," said Durant, averaging 38.0 points during his 12-game tear.
"I'm just trying to do whatever my team needs, night in and night out, to figure out what we need to do to win a basketball game."
Only twice in 18 games since Christmas has Durant failed to score 30, and one came Jan. 2 against the Nets (20-23). They held him to 24 points, rallied from 10 down in the final seven minutes and won 95-93 at Oklahoma City on Joe Johnson's jumper at the buzzer.
That victory propelled Brooklyn to a 10-2 record this month - both defeats came to Toronto. Every other team has at least three losses in January, though no club has been better in the second half of the month than the Thunder.
The Western Conference leaders have topped 100 points in every game of the streak, averaging 109.1 while shooting 51.3 percent. They've been no lower than that percentage in five straight games, including four on the road.
Serge Ibaka is shooting 59.3 percent during the streak while averaging 18.1 points, topping 20 for the third time in four games Wednesday. Derek Fisher scored a season-best 15 against Miami and is 13 of 21 from 3-point range over the past six games. Jeremy Lamb has totaled 32 points on 12-of-18 shooting in his last two.
"I trust in my teammates a lot more," Durant said. "No matter what happens, keep having faith in those guys."
Oklahoma City has surpassed 20 assists in five consecutive games despite being without point guard Russell Westbrook (knee).
"We're just playing together, trying to really come together as a team," Lamb said. "... It's fun when you play like that, sharing the ball. Everyone's having fun."
So were the Nets until having a five-game winning streak snapped Monday with a 104-103 home loss to the Raptors. Paul Pierce had a season-high 33 points but missed a long 3-pointer as time expired.
Brooklyn had given up the go-ahead jumper to Patrick Patterson with 6 seconds left after he stole Deron Williams' inbounds pass.
"I can't take it back," Williams told the team's official website. "It's not my first time turning the ball over to lose the game, and probably won't be my last, so we just have to respond on Friday."
That will be tough against a Thunder team which is 8-0 away from home versus East opponents. Brooklyn, though, joins Toronto as the only East teams to beat Oklahoma City, and Williams scored a season-best 29 in that win four weeks ago.
