KEY GAME INFORMATION
UTAH: GUARDS: TREY BURKE is likely the lead guard here, though it's really by default. He doesn't have the athleticism to make a lot of plays in the lane, and will have to rely on difficult shot-making . . . He continues to steadily improve, and there could be a bigger role available for ALEC BURKS. He'll have to develop a more consistent three-point shot before he really breaks out though . . . DANTE EXUM is an electrifying athlete, but he's making an enormous jump from essentially high school ball in Australia. He could be a gem in the long run, but don't expect him to do much as a rookie . . . TOURE' MURRY will likely play some garbage minutes. FORWARDS: He ascended to the alpha role in Utah, but GORDON HAYWARD had some struggles with the extra defensive attention. He should improve somewhat, as he knows what's coming, and has added a runner to his repertoire . . . DERRICK FAVORS will play more at the 4-spot this season, and he has the strength to power his way to easy baskets. He's a potential double-double guy . . . RODNEY HOOD had an up-and-down year at Duke despite his physical gifts. He has an NBA-caliber combination of size and athleticism, but right now he's a streaky shooter with a lot of rough edges on his game . . . TREVOR BOOKER is a solid second-unit big man, a defensive bruiser and good screener on offense . . . JEREMY EVANS can dunk, but provides little else . . . STEVE NOVAK will never be a full-time player, but he's still one of the league's elite shooters. CENTERS: He was disappointing last season, but ENES KANTER still has some upside on the offensive end of the floor. How he and Favors will mesh is yet to be seen . . . RUDY GOBERT is a shot-blocking fool, but still ultra-raw
BOSTON: GUARDS: RAJON RONDO's name is etched on the trading block. Regardless of where he lands, his injured knee should be 100 percent healthy . . . With an improved three-point shot, AVERY BRADLEY has become a complete player. His defense guarantees minutes regardless . . . MARCUS SMART seems to be waiting in the wings for a Rondo trade. In the meantime, he'll back up both guard spots. Just like in college, he'll be brilliant at times, but inconsistent . . . Local product PHIL PRESSEY will stick around as a No. 3 point guard . . . EVAN TURNER was a disaster in Indy. He'll have a tough time making this rotation . . . MARCUS THORNTON was acquired as a trade throw-in. The Celtics don't have big plans for the remorseless gunner. FORWARDS: He's isn't a legitimate No. 1 option, but JEFF GREEN will be the go-to guy again. He hasn't been able to handle the extra defensive attention, becoming increasingly inefficient . . . He has plenty of limitations on both ends of the court, but JARED SULLINGER is a crafty scorer. He'll get close to starter minutes as the Celtics search for offense . . . BRANDON BASS will see time at the 4 and the 5. He's made a pledge to improve offensively, but more likely he'll be a defensive presence and a screen-setter . . . JAMES YOUNG missed most of the summer healing a neck injury. He's going to do some damage running the floor, but he doesn't have the skills for the half-court game in the NBA . . . GERALD WALLACE is playing out the string. CENTERS: KELLY OLYNYK has the most upside in this frontcourt. His rare mobility and skill set for a 7-footer made a difference last year. It's just a question of whether he can hold up defensively down low . . . TYLER ZELLER gives them another solid 7-footer who opposing defenses have to account for. He'll fit well in head coach Brad Stevens' system . . . JOEL ANTHONY isn't going to get off the bench.

*Jazz-Celtics Preview* ======================

By NICOLINO DIBENEDETTO STATS Writer

Utah (23-35) at Boston (23-34), 7:30 p.m. EDT

Not long ago, the Boston Celtics probably thought a matchup with the Utah Jazz would help them get closer to a playoff spot.

The Jazz, however, are looking much more formidable in their role as spoiler.

The Celtics will try to avoid becoming the latest victim by extending their home winning streak over the Jazz on Wednesday night.

Boston (23-35) is two games back of Brooklyn and Charlotte for the eighth and final playoff spot in the Eastern Conference, also trailing Indiana by 1 1/2.

After wins over Phoenix, New York and Charlotte, the Celtics' streak ended with a 106-101 loss to West-leading Golden State on Sunday. They weren't even close Tuesday, falling 110-79 at Cleveland in their most lopsided defeat of the season.

"The way we played is not the right way," coach Brad Stevens said. "It's not acceptable. We played individual basketball the whole night, and you can't do that. We were bad."

Boston shot 36.0 percent from the floor - 25.4 from beyond the arc - over the last two games after making 45.1 of its field goals, including 44.2 of its 3s, over the three prior.

Poor shooting hasn't been a problem against the Jazz (24-35), with the Celtics connecting on 49.7 percent and holding them to an average of 87.5 points during six straight home wins in the series.

Boston went 8 for 19 from long range in a 99-90 win at Utah on Jan. 26 for its seventh win in eight overall matchups.

The Jazz, though, have been a much better team lately, limiting opponents to 85.4 points per game during a 7-2 stretch that includes five wins over teams currently in playoff position.

Utah notched another impressive victory Tuesday, beating Southwest Division-leading Memphis 93-82 for its first three-game win streak of the season. Rudy Gobert continued his strong play with 15 points and a career-high 24 rebounds to put the Jazz in position for their first four-game run since winning five in a row March 25-April 1, 2013.

Gobert has provided Utah with an inside presence after Enes Kanter was dealt to Oklahoma City last month. The second-year center is averaging 10.7 points and 12.8 rebounds in six games since being inserted into the lineup.

"Rudy is a presence," coach Quin Snyder said. "He gets a lot of second-chance points which is important. He dominated the glass, and he contests."

Derrick Favors has played a key role during Utah's three-game run, averaging 19.3 points on 62.9 percent (23 of 35) from the field and totaling 28 rebounds.

Boston could use a bounce-back performance from guard Isaiah Thomas, who had 11 points while going 4 for 13 from the floor Tuesday. He was averaging 21.8 points through his first five games with the Celtics after being acquired from Phoenix last month.

Thomas, though, has 10 points in each of his last three games against Utah, shooting 30.3 percent (10 for 33).
