KEY GAME INFORMATION
BROOKLYN: GUARDS: Even after Paul Pierce came to Brooklyn, JOE JOHNSON remained the clear-cut No. 1 option in Brooklyn. Their offense figures to feature Johnson backing down defenders frequently again this year . . . DERON WILLIAMS seems to be deteriorating rapidly, struggling to stay healthy and losing confidence . . . JARRETT JACK figures to take Shaun Livingston's old role, playing alongside Williams often to take ball-handling duties off his plate . . . ALAN ANDERSON will see time at both wing spots as a defensive specialist who shoots some corner threes . . . SERGEY KARASEV has some long-term upside, but will do little this year . . . MARQUIS TEAGUE figures to have the edge on MARKEL BROWN for the No. 3 PG job. FORWARDS: With Paul Pierce gone, MIRZA TELETOVIC has a chance to take on a bigger role. He held his own defensively last year and provides another deep threat to space the floor . . . There's no telling what, if anything, they'll get out of ANDREI KIRILENKO this season. He seems to be at a point in his career when he's just not going to be able to stay healthy . . . BOJAN BOGDANOVIC should give Brooklyn some additional offensive firepower off the bench. He'll likely be a regular in the rotation by midseason . . . KEVIN GARNETT figures to play a bit more at the 4 alongside Brook Lopez, but there's pretty much no gas left in the tank for this 38-year-old player . . . Second-round pick CORY JEFFERSON is likely ticketed for the D-League. CENTERS: The Nets desperately need a healthy BROOK LOPEZ if they're going to win the Atlantic Division, but they'll have to monitor his minutes closely after another season lost to injury . . . With Lopez healthy, MASON PLUMLEE will resume his natural role as an energy guy off the bench.
UTAH: GUARDS: TREY BURKE is likely the lead guard here, though it's really by default. He doesn't have the athleticism to make a lot of plays in the lane, and will have to rely on difficult shot-making . . . He continues to steadily improve, and there could be a bigger role available for ALEC BURKS. He'll have to develop a more consistent three-point shot before he really breaks out though . . . DANTE EXUM is an electrifying athlete, but he's making an enormous jump from essentially high school ball in Australia. He could be a gem in the long run, but don't expect him to do much as a rookie . . . TOURE' MURRY will likely play some garbage minutes. FORWARDS: He ascended to the alpha role in Utah, but GORDON HAYWARD had some struggles with the extra defensive attention. He should improve somewhat, as he knows what's coming, and has added a runner to his repertoire . . . DERRICK FAVORS will play more at the 4-spot this season, and he has the strength to power his way to easy baskets. He's a potential double-double guy . . . RODNEY HOOD had an up-and-down year at Duke despite his physical gifts. He has an NBA-caliber combination of size and athleticism, but right now he's a streaky shooter with a lot of rough edges on his game . . . TREVOR BOOKER is a solid second-unit big man, a defensive bruiser and good screener on offense . . . JEREMY EVANS can dunk, but provides little else . . . STEVE NOVAK will never be a full-time player, but he's still one of the league's elite shooters. CENTERS: He was disappointing last season, but ENES KANTER still has some upside on the offensive end of the floor. How he and Favors will mesh is yet to be seen . . . RUDY GOBERT is a shot-blocking fool, but still ultra-raw

*Nets-Jazz Preview* ===================

By NOEY KUPCHAN STATS Writer

Brooklyn (18-25) at Utah (15-28), 9:00 p.m. EDT

The slumping Brooklyn Nets are hoping to quickly move on from their most lopsided defeat of the season.

The lowly Utah Jazz are looking to build on an encouraging performance.

Brooklyn goes for a third consecutive win over the Jazz in the season's first meeting Saturday night in Utah.

The Nets (18-25) are one of the NBA's lowest scoring teams at 95.5 points per game, and they've averaged 91.3 in dropping nine of 11. Brooklyn opened a three-game trek with Wednesday's 103-100 win over Sacramento before getting blown out 123-84 by the Clippers on Thursday.

Mason Plumlee finished with 16 points as the other four Nets starters scored a combined 20. Brook Lopez finished with four points after averaging 21.0 over the previous three games.

"It was unfortunate for us, very embarrassing, considering it was a nationally televised game," said little-used center Jerome Jordan, who saw significant playing time with the outcome in little doubt. "The only thing that counts is that it was only one game, and now we've got to move forward."

The Nets were outscored 70-37 in the first half and limited to 37.5 percent shooting, their worst mark in 14 games. They went 4 of 21 from 3-point range and 14 of 25 from the foul line.

Brooklyn will have to move forward without Mirza Teletovic, who will miss the rest of the season after multiple blood clots were discovered in his lungs. The 29-year-old Bosnian is averaging 8.5 points and 4.9 rebounds.

"I'm shocked," Plumlee told the Nets' official website. "Mirza is a really well-liked guy and a big part of what we do. My thoughts are with him and his family."

The Nets had dropped four straight and eight of nine against the Jazz before sweeping last season's two-game series. Joe Johnson led the way with 27 points in a 105-99 victory Feb. 19 as Brooklyn snapped a four-game skid in Utah.

The Jazz (15-28) return home after closing a 1-2 road trip with Thursday's 101-99 win at Milwaukee. Gordon Hayward scored 13 of his 24 points in the fourth quarter while Enes Kanter finished with 23 and 16 rebounds. Rudy Gobert added 14 and 10 while starting in place of Derrick Favors, who is uncertain to be available again due to personal reasons.

Rookie Dante Exum also came up big with a season-high 15 points while shooting 5 of 10 from beyond the arc as the Jazz had 25 assists and matched a season high with 14 made 3s.

"We played with a pass more tonight than we have recently," coach Quin Snyder told the team's official website. "And it's not an accident in my mind that we made more (3-pointers), because those passes and the ball movement take some pressure off our shooters. If there's one thing I'm most pleased with tonight, that's it."

The Jazz haven't posted back-to-back wins since Dec. 22 and 27. They've dropped six of their last seven home matchups against Eastern Conference foes.

Johnson is averaging 23.4 points on 54.3 percent shooting in 10 games against Utah since 2008-09, his highest mark against any team during that span.

Former Jazz star Deron Williams remains out with a rib injury.
