KEY GAME INFORMATION
OLE MISS: The Rebels could ride their defense to SEC West contention. Their front four includes a healthy DE C.J. Johnson (6.5 sacks in 2012) and DT Robert Nkemdiche (2 sacks), the nation's top recruit in 2013. They return All-American S Cody Prewitt (6 INT) while S Anthony Alford and hybrid Tony Conner (66 tackles) are two of the best athletes in the conference. A big year for the defense would take the pressure off erratic junior QB Bo Wallace (3,346 pass yds, 18 TD, 10 INT; 355 rush yds, 6 TD), who has solid weapons, including reigning SEC freshman of the year WR Laquon Treadwell (608 rec yds, 5 TD). Ole Miss also brings back top two RBs Jaylen Walton (523 rush yds) and I'Tavius Mathers (563 rush yds). On the O-Line, they have a rising star in LT Laremy Tunsil and get LG Aaron Morris back from a torn ACL.
ARKANSAS: Bret Bielema's first year was predictably rough, but the pieces are there for a solid improvement in Year 2. Bielema's run-first offense will be led by RB Alex Collins (1,026 rush yds, 5.4 YPC), the second Razorback ever to hit 1,000 yards as a freshman, and RB Jonathan Williams (900 rush yds, 6.0 YPC). QB Brandon Allen (6.0 YPA, 13 TD, 10 INT) had a shaky first year as a starter but should improve, especially if his shoulder is fully healthy. Robb Smith is their fourth defensive coordinator in four years, and he inherits a group that will likely struggle. DE Trey Flowers (5 sacks, 13.5 TFL, 3 FF) is a bright spot and should lead a solid pass rush. The secondary is experienced with CBs Tevin Mitchel, Carroll Washington and Will Hines (11 PD combined), but short on talent. Linebacker also continues to be a trouble spot.

(UPDATES with Ole Miss No. 8 in CFP rankings)

*Mississippi-Arkansas Preview* ==============================

Ole Miss (8-2) at Arkansas (5-5), 3:30 p.m. EDT

(AP) - Mississippi coach Hugh Freeze and his players had the luxury of watching and relaxing as the rest of the college football world beat itself up last weekend.

Doing nothing proved to be quite productive.

No. 8 Ole Miss (8-2, 4-2 SEC) still doesn't control its own destiny in the conference's Western Division, but losses by Mississippi State, Auburn and even Arizona State helped the Rebels jump two spots to No. 8 in Tuesday's College Football Playoff rankings.

"We've preached to our kids all along - you play until the end and see what happens," said Freeze, whose team avoided a third straight loss with a 48-0 win over Presbyterian on Nov. 8. "There's just so much football left to be played. The results (from last weekend) certainly kept us alive with some very important, lofty things that we could accomplish."

To have any chance at sneaking into the inaugural four-team playoff field as a two-loss team, the Rebels would need to win their final two games. That won't be easy - the Rebels travel to face an improved Arkansas (5-5, 1-5) program Saturday before hosting No. 4 Mississippi State in the Egg Bowl on Nov. 29.

A healthier roster should help.

Ole Miss is without receiver Laquon Treadwell and linebacker Denzel Nkemdiche for the rest of the season, but others like left tackle Laremy Tunsil (partially torn bicep) and safety Cody Prewitt (shoulder) are expected to return.

Quarterback Bo Wallace said it was good to see his teammates recuperate, and it's encouraging to know his team still has a chance to win the SEC West.

"Everything that we needed to happen, happened," Wallace said. "So we're excited about that, but it doesn't matter unless we take care of us."

Arkansas appears to be a much more formidable opponent than it was just a few weeks ago. The Razorbacks ended a 17-game SEC losing streak last Saturday by beating then-No. 20 LSU 17-0.

The program's breakthrough had been expected for quite some time. The Razorbacks had played tight games with elite teams like Alabama and then-No. 1 Mississippi State before the emphatic victory over the Tigers.

Coach Bret Bielema said his players were "happy and ecstatic" after last weekend's win, but he didn't expect his team to relax as it chases bowl eligibility.

"I think our reality slapped us in the face pretty quick on Sunday and hopefully it will carry through the week," Bielema said.

Arkansas' strength is a power running game and a gigantic offensive line that averages more than 328 pounds across the starting five. Behind them, Jonathan Williams has run for 932 yards and 11 touchdowns while Alex Collins has 886 yards and 11 TDs.

It will be a formidable challenge for the Rebels even though they lead the country in scoring defense, giving up 11.9 points per game.

Freeze acknowledged that the Ole Miss defense is better equipped to deal with speed instead of power. The Rebels gave up 264 yards rushing in a 10-7 loss Oct. 25 to an LSU offense that has some similarities to Arkansas, and 248 the next week in a 35-31 defeat to Auburn.

"I guess, just looking at what has occurred, you would have to say that this may not be our best matchup," Freeze said. "But we've got to play it, and we've got to find a plan to get our kids in the right spot. Hopefully we learned something."

Ole Miss beat visiting Arkansas 34-24 in last season's meeting as Wallace went 27 of 34 for a career-best 416 yards with three TDs and two interceptions.

The Razorbacks are trying to avoid dropping three in a row in the series for the first time since a four-game skid from 1990-93.

"We can play with anybody in the country," Bielema said. "I know that sounds silly to say, but it's 100 percent true. Our guys are able to do that."
