| | | ALABAMA: The Tide will replace AJ McCarron with either former Florida State back-up QB Jacob Coker (6.9 YPA, 0 TD, 1 INT), a classic pocket passer, or dual-threat senior QB Blake Sims (5.8 YPA, 2 TD, 0 INT), a former running back. Regardless, Bama will lean heavily on the ground game with RBs T.J. Yeldon (1,235 rush yds, 14 TD) and bruiser Derrick Henry (382 rush yds, 10.9 YPC). The Tide also bring back WR Amari Cooper (736 rec yds, 4 TD), one of the nation's top deep threats. The defense lost a lot of talent, but as usual, has a plethora of young stars ready to step up. Sophomore DE A'Shawn Robinson (5.5 sacks) and ILB Trey DePriest (65 tackles) are potential stars. All-America candidate S Landon Collins (70 tackles) is the only returning starter in the secondary, but CB Eddie Jackson can shut down receivers. | | W VIRGINIA: Despite having offensive guru Dana Holgorsen as head coach, this WVU offense could struggle again without great skill-position players. QB Clint Trickett (6.9 YPA, 7 TD, 7 INT) should start if his hurt shoulder is OK, and Pittsburgh transfer RB Rushel Shell (641 rush yds in '12) should propel the ground game. S Karl Joseph (68 tackles) can hit, and LB Brandon Golson (5 FF, 4 sacks) will play OLB and D-End in new DC Tony Gibson's 3-4 scheme. |
