BYU: Bronco Mendenhall left after having won 99 games over 11 seasons at BYU without a losing record, which is even more impressive when considering that in 2005 he inherited a Cougars program coming off three straight losing seasons. Kalani Sitake takes over as the new head coach and former Heisman winner Ty Detmer is the new offensive coordinator.
UTAH: If the Utes turn out to be a force again in the Pac-12, it will because of the team's defense. All-conference DT Lowell Lotulelei returns as the anchor of the unit. The challenge will be on the offensive side of the ball, where both QB Travis Wilson and RB Devontae Booker must be replaced. Veteran Brandon Cox, JUCO transfer Troy Williams and freshman Tyler Huntley are the candidates to take over at quarterback.
