| TENNESSEE: The Vols offense will have a much different look in Butch Jones' second season. They lost all five linemen and have an uninspired competition between QBs Justin Worley (6.3 YPA, 10 TD, 8 INT) and Joshua Dobbs (5.7 YPA, 2 TD, 6 INT). The winner of that battle will have plenty of weapons at receiver, including potential breakout star WR Marquez North (38 rec, 496 yds), top recruit Josh Malone and JUCO transfer Von Pearson. The defense, especially in the secondary, will undergo wholesale changes after opponents ran past them for most of last season. The potential emergence of DE Corey Vereen (13 tackles) would be a big help to the lackluster pass defense. The linebacking corps is solid, led by LB A.J. Johnson (106 tackles, 8.5 TFL). | | S CAROLINA: If the Gamecocks are going to be in the SEC title game hunt, it's going to be because of RB Mike Davis (1,535 total yds, 11 TD). The scat back emerged as a star last year and will be leaned on to carry the offense now that QB Connor Shaw is gone. QB Dylan Thompson (8.8 YPA, 4 TD, 3 INT) replaces Shaw. Thompson is more of a classic pocket passer, so much in the Spurrier mold that the ol' ball coach rotated him in for Shaw at times the past two seasons. He and Davis will benefit from one of the nation's best offensive lines. The defense will have a much different look now that Jadeveon Clowney is no longer there. LB Skai Moore (4 INT, 56 tackles) leads a solid linebacking corps, but the Gamecocks are thin at cornerback and have no heir apparent to Clowney and departed DT Kelcy Quarles. |
