| W KENTUCKY: The Hilltoppers' offense is very effective under QB Brandon Doughty, as they were sixth-best in the nation on third-down conversions last year (51%). The big questions on this team all lie with defense, and this beleaguered Western Kentucky unit will certainly be tested in road games at Vanderbilt, Indiana, Rice and LSU. But the Hilltoppers have the good fortune of hosting both Marshall and Middle Tennessee, who are the only two other teams with a real chance to win the C-USA East division. | | RICE: Although Rice has to replace eight defensive starters, the schedule is easy enough to expect the school to challenge Louisiana Tech (who it faces at home on Halloween) for the division title. Only once all season will the Owls leave the state of Texas (Oct. 10 at Florida Atlantic), and they will be double-digit favorites in at least four home tilts (Wagner, Army, Southern Miss and Charlotte). Trips to Baylor and Texas won't be successful, but the four other road games are all winnable. |
