| OHIO U: The Bobcats don't have the flashy offense to match some of the MAC East's other contenders, but their defense has a chance to be the division's best'sophomore Quentin Poling and senior Jovon Johnson both have first-team all-conference upside and could be the best tandem of linebackers in the conference. Frank Solich teams typically find a way; last year's squad was the worst he's had at Ohio yet still posted a .500 record. If any of their quarterbacks emerge, the Bobcats could become the favorites in the MAC East. | | N ILLINOIS: The Huskies were thought to have question marks going into last year, when they had no clear replacement for star QB Jordan Lynch. But Rod Carey's system prevailed, and the Huskies won their third MAC title in four years. There will be more holes to fill this year, particularly on the offensive line, and the MAC West will be as competitive as ever. But Northern Illinois will remain the conference's clear favorite until someone in the division finally proves capable of knocking the Huskies off. |
