| | | WISCONSIN: The Badgers were less than 15 seconds away from playing in the championship game before losing that Final Four game to Kentucky in the final seconds. C Frank Kaminsky (13.9 PPG, 6.3 RPG and 1.7 BPG) is one of the most difficult matchups in college basketball. At 7-foot, he has the post game to cause problems. However, it his ability to step out and hit the long-range jump shot that makes him so tough to stop. When he is on the block, it forces a double-team, opening up floor spacing for guys like SF Sam Dekker (12.4 PPG, 6.1 RPG and 1.4 APG) and PG Traevon Jackson (10.7 PPG, 4.0 APG, 3.8 APG). Like Kaminsky, Dekker is versatile enough to hit the three-point shot, while also scoring on the block. PG Josh Gasser (8.8 PPG, 4.0 RPG, 1.9 APG) is solid floor general that knows how to run Bo Ryan's offense. The guy to look out for is athletic sophomore PF Nigel Hayes (7.7 PPG, 2.8 RPG) who has an expanded role on the team this season. The Badgers can go big, and find the mismatches created by him and Dekker on the wing. | | MINNESOTA: If you're looking for a sleeper team in the Big Ten, it is the Golden Gophers. Minnesota is coming off an NIT championship win against SMU, and brings back all but one starter. SG Andre Hollins (13.6 PPG, 3.5 RPG, 2.4 APG) had a solid junior campaign, but saw his numbers drop in every statistic. Especially worrisome was his shooting percentages, as he shot only 38% FG and 34% from threes, falling considerably from 42% in both areas as a sophomore. He is relentless when attacking, but he can get out of control, and try to shoot himself out of a slump. PG Deandre Mathieu (12 PPG, 4.2 APG and 2.7 RPG) is a cool customer at the point guard running the offense, as he doesn't get too high or low on the court. He has the speed to get by the defender, but the IQ to know whether to dish it off or attack the rim. Veteran PFs Maurice Walker (7.8 PPG, 4.5 RPG, 56% FG) and Joey King (7.1 PPG, 2.7 RPG, 48% FG) and 6-foot-11 C Elliott Eliason (5.0 PPG, 6.6 RPG) give the Golden Gophers size, experience and toughness in the post. |

*Wisconsin-Minnesota Preview* =============================
By ALAN FERGUSON STATS Writer
Wisconsin (26-3) at Minnesota (17-12), 7:00 p.m. EDT
Wisconsin likely needs to win one of two road games to secure an outright Big Ten regular-season title, and its trip to Minnesota would appear the less challenging of those contests.
The sixth-ranked Badgers, though, have struggled in recent visits to Williams Arena and will face a well-rested Golden Gophers team Thursday night.
Wisconsin (26-3, 14-2) clinched a share of its first conference title since 2007-08 with a 68-61 win over Michigan State on Sunday, and Frank Kaminsky bolstered his case for national player of the year honors with a season-high 31 points.
The Badgers can secure the outright crown and the No. 1 seed for next week's conference tournament by beating either Minnesota (17-12, 6-10) or 23rd-ranked Ohio State - 18-1 at home - on Sunday. They'd miss out on both goals if they lose the two games and No. 10 Maryland defeats sub-.500 Nebraska on Sunday.
"We've got two tough places that we have to head to this week coming up, so we'll get ready for Minnesota. (Minnesota is) a team that shot lights out at Michigan State. They're very talented," coach Bo Ryan said. "I think that Minnesota team is every bit as good as the one they had last year. Sometimes the ball goes in here and doesn't go in there. This game can be crazy at times."
Wisconsin has won three in a row over the Golden Gophers, but none of those games came in Minneapolis. The Badgers have lost two straight and four of five there - the only win came in overtime - and fell 81-68 at Williams Arena last season as Kaminsky was saddled with early foul trouble.
He finished with nine points in 15 minutes in that game but scored 21 on 9-of-13 shooting in a 63-53 home victory over the Gophers on Feb. 21. Bronson Koenig contributed a career-best 17 points.
That loss was one of three straight for Minnesota, a skid that ended with a 96-90 overtime win at Michigan State last Thursday. The Gophers haven't played since that victory.
Carlos Morris led five players in double figures with 20 points and made a tying 3-pointer while being fouled with 2.2 seconds left in regulation, but missed the free throw.
Minnesota shot 51.8 percent, its best performance in Big Ten play this season.
"We've got a long way to go but that was big," coach Richard Pitino said.
Morris was one of three Gophers with a team-high 11 points in the loss at Wisconsin. Leading scorer Andre Hollins (14.7 ppg) had two points while missing seven of eight shots, but he bounced back to score 17 on 5-of-9 shooting at Michigan State.
The Gophers are 0-8 in conference play when Hollins fails to shoot at least 40.0 percent.
Minnesota is 0-4 against ranked teams, but the only loss at home came in overtime against Ohio State. The previous five Top 25 opponents to visit Williams Arena all lost. The Gophers are 13-3 at home this season.
Wisconsin lost its most recent road game, 59-53 to then-No. 14 Maryland on Feb. 24. The Badgers' other nine true road games all were against unranked foes with the lone loss coming Jan. 11 to the conference's last-place team, Rutgers.
