| KANSAS ST: Last season: 25-12, lost to Loyola-Chicago in Elite Eight
Nickname: Wildcats
Coach: Bruce Weber
Conference: Big 12
Who's gone: PF Mawdo Sallah (transferred to Radford), SG Brian Patrick (transferred to IUPFW); SG Amaad Wainwright, SG Mason Schoen, SG Kade Kinnamon
Who's back: Preseason Big 12 player of the year Dean Wade, who averaged 16.2 points and 6.2 rebounds last season; All-Big 12 SG Barry Brown Jr., who averaged 15.9 points; SF Xavier Sneed, who broke out during NCAA Tournament run; PG Kamau Stokes, who averaged 9.0 points and team-best 3.4 assists; PG Cartier Diarra, who played 23.8 minutes per game as a freshman; PF Makol Mawien; SG Mike McGuirl; PF Levi Stockard III; PF Nigel Shadd: PF James Love III.
Who's new: PF Austin Trice, a transfer from Wabash Valley College in Illinois; PG Shaun Williams, a three-star prospect from St. Louis.
The Skinny: The 12th-ranked Wildcats return everyone of note from last year's Elite Eight team, and they're a whole lot healthier than they were in their March run. Kansas State roared through the bracket despite the absence of Wade, their best player, who was dealing with an injury. Stokes also missed time last season. If the Wildcats can stay healthy, they have a good chance of challenging Kansas for the Big 12 title.
Expectations: Las Vegas oddsmakers have Kansas State at 80-1 to win the NCAA Tournament, the fourth-best of Big 12 teams behind Kansas, West Virginia and Texas Tech. |
