| LSU: Last season: 19-14.
Nickname: Tigers.
Coach: Johnny Jones.
Conference: Southeastern.
Who's gone: F Ben Simmons, G Keith Hornsby, G Tim Quarterman.
Who's back: G Antonio Blakeney. LSU's third-leading scorer last season at 12.6 points per game; F Craig Victor. Junior Forward averaged 11.5 points and 5.6 rebounds last season; G Brandon Sampson. Showed potential as a freshman who started five games.
Who's new: C-F Duop Reath. The 6-foot-10 junior college transfer is a rim protector on defense who can run the court and has some offensive skills as well. He provides an inside presence LSU lacked last season. Freshman G Skylar Mays and 6-6 F Wade Sims are Baton Rouge-area recruits who could make immediate contributions.
The Skinny: Expectations are low following the departure of Ben Simmons, the No. 1 overall NBA pick this summer. Jones can only hope team chemistry improves and that a number of players emerging from Simmons' shadow turn out to be better than everyone thought. | | ARKANSAS: Last season: 16-16, failed to reach the postseason.
Nickname: Razorbacks
Coach: Mike Anderson
Conference: Southeastern
Who's gone: G Anthlon Bell, G Jabril Durham.
Who's back: C Moses Kingsley. Senior is the preseason SEC Player of the Year after averaging 15.9 points and 9.3 rebounds per game last season; G Dusty Hannnahs. Senior led the Razorbacks with an average of 16.5 points per game and was fifth in the SEC in 3-point percentage (43.3).
Who's new: G Jaylen Barford. The top junior-college player in the country after averaging a national-best 26.2 points per game last season; G Daryl Macon. Averaged 23.9 points in junior college last season and should provide Arkansas with much-needed athleticism and defense in the backcourt.
The Skinny: The Razorbacks have reached the NCAA Tournament just once in Mike Anderson's five seasons, and the Coach made it clear that's the expectation this season. Anderson brought in plenty of reinforcements to make that a reality, including three of the top junior-college recruits in the country in Barford, Macon and 6-foot-8 forward Arlando Cook. |
