| | | PHILADELPHIA: Key Additions: FB Tommy Taggart, WR Shaun Kauleinamoku, WR Dominique Curry, OL Shannon Breen, LB Beau Bell, LB Caleb Bostic.
Outlook: AFL Hall of Fame quarterback and current Soul head coach Clint Dolezel has lost a lot of talent on offense this off-season''FB Derrick Ross, WR Tiger Jones, WR V'Keon Lacey, OL Wayne Tribue, OL Jason Holman. They have made three straight playoff appearances, but may have a bit more trouble going back for a fourth-straight time this season if they don't have a few guys step up and fill the voids. Ross was shipped to Los Angeles in exchange for one of the best linebackers in the entire league, Beau Bell, who will fit in well and is an immediate upgrade on defense. Though the defense is now stronger from the Bell trade, the loss of Ross could prove devastating for QB Dan Raudabaugh, especially given his top WR Jones is gone as well. Wideout Ryan McDaniel will get his shot at becoming a No. 1 receiver in this league thanks to the loss of Jones. As for the loss of O-line depth, Dolezel is hoping that former Gladiators' lineman Shannon Breen steps in and makes an immediate impact up front. They certainly have the coaching staff and the quarterback needed to get back to the playoffs, but I can't see them de-throning the Gladiators for the East title. | | TAMPA BAY: Key Additions: QB Jason Boltus, QB Luke Collis, WR Johnny Thomas, WR Jarvis Williams, OL Cory Brandon, DL Everett Dawkins, DB Al Phillips.
Outlook: With last season's starting quarterback Randy Hippeard now with division foe Orlando after one season as the Storm's full-time starter, former Spokane, Utah and Orlando quarterback Jason Boltus will take over the reins in 2015. Tampa/Orlando will certainly be an interesting match-up this season as the two team's starters basically just switched uniforms this season. Boltus (2,711 yards, 54 TD, 11 INT in '14) will team up with wideout T.T. Toliver, but TB will be without their top two receivers from a season ago (Amarri Jackson and Joe Hills). It'll be tough to replace that kind of void, but Johnny Thomas hopes to step in and pick up some of the slack. On defense, coach Lawrence Samuels has some fresh talent to his disposal as he enters his second season at the helm of the Tampa Bay Storm. The losses on offense, however, could be too much to compete with Jacksonville and Orlando in the division this season. |
