| | | PHILADELPHIA: Key Additions: FB Tommy Taggart, WR Shaun Kauleinamoku, WR Dominique Curry, OL Shannon Breen, LB Beau Bell, LB Caleb Bostic.
Outlook: AFL Hall of Fame quarterback and current Soul head coach Clint Dolezel has lost a lot of talent on offense this off-season''FB Derrick Ross, WR Tiger Jones, WR V'Keon Lacey, OL Wayne Tribue, OL Jason Holman. They have made three straight playoff appearances, but may have a bit more trouble going back for a fourth-straight time this season if they don't have a few guys step up and fill the voids. Ross was shipped to Los Angeles in exchange for one of the best linebackers in the entire league, Beau Bell, who will fit in well and is an immediate upgrade on defense. Though the defense is now stronger from the Bell trade, the loss of Ross could prove devastating for QB Dan Raudabaugh, especially given his top WR Jones is gone as well. Wideout Ryan McDaniel will get his shot at becoming a No. 1 receiver in this league thanks to the loss of Jones. As for the loss of O-line depth, Dolezel is hoping that former Gladiators' lineman Shannon Breen steps in and makes an immediate impact up front. They certainly have the coaching staff and the quarterback needed to get back to the playoffs, but I can't see them de-throning the Gladiators for the East title. | | SPOKANE: Key Additions: QB Carson Coffman, QB Warren Smith, WR K.J. Stroud, WR Keenan Davis, DE Will Hunt, JLB Arvell Nelson.
Outlook: In his three seasons as head coach, Andy Olson is 33-19 with back-to-back second-place division finishes that ended with playoff berths. Last season they struggled in the Conference Semi-finals against the SaberCats, falling 55-28 following an 11-7 regular season. They enter this season with a new quarterback under center, former Iowa QB Carson Coffman, who will be backed up by Jarrett Brown. Coffman tossed for 2,970 yards, 53 TD and 15 INT for the 'Stormers in 2014. Last year's All-Arena selection and AFL's Defensive Lineman of the Year, James Ruffin, returns to Spokane for his fourth season with the team, and is one of the league's most dangerous defenders. In 2014, Ruffin collected 38.5 combined tackles and a franchise-record 14.0 sacks. His three-season totals with Spokane include 80.5 tackles (28.0 TFL), 26.0 sacks, 6 forced fumbles and an interception. He's coming off his best season, by far, and is looking to add on to his AFL success in 2015. |
