| | | TAMPA BAY: LAST SEASON: 46-27-9, 101 points. Swept in first round of playoffs by Montreal.
COACH: Jon Cooper, second full season with Lighting, 51-35-12.
ADDED: F Brian Boyle, F Brenden Morrow, D Anton Stralman, D Jason Garrison, G Evgeni Nabokov, F Jonathan Drouin.
LOST: G Anders Lindback, F Ryan Malone, F Teddy Purcell, F Nate Thompson, D Sami Salo.
PLAYER TO WATCH: Ondrej Palat. One of the NHL's top rookies last season. With Steven Stamkos missing a significant portion of the year and Martin St. Louis departing in a late-season trade, Palat finished with team-leading 50 points, including 23 goals. Third among league rookies in goals and second in points, he led all rookies with 44 points after Jan. 1.
OUTLOOK: With Bishop healthy again after missing the playoffs with a dislocated elbow, many expect the Lightning to prosper in the relatively weak Eastern Conference and make a deep run in the playoffs. Stamkos has scored more goals (210) than any player in the league since the start of the 2009-10 season and Bishop is coming off a season in which he set franchise season records for wins (37), save percentage (.924) and goals-against average (2.23). | | TORONTO: LAST SEASON: 38-6-8, 84 points, finished 12th in the East and missed the playoffs.
COACH: Randy Carlyle, fifth season with the Leafs, 343-244-77.
ADDED: RW Matt Frattin, C Leo Komarov, D Roman Polak, D Stephane Robidas, C Mike Santorelli.
LOST: C Dave Bolland, D Tim Gleason, D Carl Gunnerson, C Jay McClement, RW Nikolai Kulemin, LW Mason Raymond.
PLAYER TO WATCH: David Clarkson. The right winger's first season with his boyhood team was one he'd rather forget. Clarkson had with 11 points (five goals and six assists) in 60 games with a minus-14 rating after agreeing to a seven-year, $36.75 million deal with Toronto.
OUTLOOK: The hirings of Brendan Shanahan as team president, Kyle Dubas as the assistant general manager and the added emphasis of analytics seem to indicate a new day for the Leafs. But much of the team that lost 12 of their final 14 games last season has returned. Coupled with the fact that the Leafs are in a division with 2013-14 playoff teams in Boston, Tampa Bay, Montreal and Detroit, it's hard to envision a scenario in which Toronto shows enough improvement to contend for a postseason berth in 2014-15. |

*Lightning-Maple Leafs Preview* ===============================
By NICOLINO DIBENEDETTO STATS Writer
Tampa Bay (46-23-7) at Toronto (28-42-6), 7:30 p.m. EDT
The Tampa Bay Lightning are headed to the playoffs, but they're looking for a bigger prize before getting there.
The Lightning look to move atop the Eastern Conference on Tuesday night against a Toronto Maple Leafs team that's coming off a rare victory.
Tampa Bay (47-23-7) clinched a playoff berth by beating Montreal 5-3 on Monday. The win gave it a sweep of the five-game season series with the Canadiens, who swept the Lightning in the first round of the playoffs last year.
While a postseason rematch almost certainly will have to wait until the second round, Tampa Bay has its sights set on the conference's best record. The Lightning are one point back of idle Montreal, and both teams are in the thick of the crowded race for the Presidents' Trophy with Anaheim, Nashville and the New York Rangers.
"To be one of 16 to be able to play for the prize, it's a relief, but there's still more to play for," coach Jon Cooper told the team's official website. "We're only one point behind Montreal, and we've got other goals we set. The main one was we wanted to get in because what happened in (Montreal) last year, when we left here was a taste that we all remember and want to erase.
"For us to have a chance to do that is pretty exciting."
For now, beating the Maple Leafs (28-42-6) again would suffice. The Lightning have won four of the past five meetings after a 4-2 victory March 5.
Steven Stamkos, a native of nearby Markham, may be looking forward to visiting Toronto in the hopes of snapping his season-high five-game goal drought. The center has six goals in his last five games there, and 15 with 16 assists in 24 career matchups overall.
Stamkos has 11 points in the past six games with the Leafs after setting up two goals earlier this month.
Vladislav Namestnikov scored in that meeting a day after being recalled from Syracuse of the AHL. The rookie center has six goals and three assists in 12 games during this stint with the Lightning, two more points than his first 26 games this season.
The Maple Leafs are aiming to win back-to-back games for the first time since Feb. 21-26 and just the second time since mid-December. Eric Brewer snapped their seven-game slide by scoring in overtime of Saturday's 4-3 win over Ottawa.
Tyler Bozak set up Brewer's tally after scoring all three goals of his first career hat trick in the third period to rally Toronto from a 2-0 deficit. His four points were a career high and matched his total from the previous 17 games.
James van Riemsdyk assisted on each of Bozak's goals.
"We want to use our speed to our advantage, try and push the 'D' back and not let them have as good of gaps as they can," Bozak said. "We were able to get a few bounces last game, and hopefully those keep coming our way to finish off the year."
Van Riemsdyk doesn't have a point in the last two meetings with Tampa Bay. However, he had two goals while Bozak had two assists in Toronto's 5-2 win in the most recent meeting at Air Canada Centre on Nov. 20.
Bozak has nine points in eight career home games versus the Lightning.
