KEY GAME INFORMATION
ARIZONA: LAST SEASON: 29-41-12, 70 points. Last in Pacific Division.
COACH: Rick Tocchet (second season, fourth NHL season).
ADDED: C Alex Galchenyuk, F Michael Grabner, F Vinnie Hinostroza, D Jordan Oesterle, D Ilya Lyubushkin.
LOST: F Max Domi, F Jordan Martinook, D Luke Schenn, C Zac Rinaldo.
PLAYER TO WATCH: F Clayton Keller. The skilled forward had a super rookie season, finishing with 23 goals and 42 assists while becoming a finalist for the Calder Trophy, awarded to the NHL's best rookie. Keller had a midseason lull after a superb start to his rookie season and the Coyotes are hoping for even more production his second season as he gains more consistency.
OUTLOOK: The thought of a playoff push had been considered a longshot at best the past few seasons. It could be a reality this season with a still young but talented roster, a year under Tocchet's system and
ADDED scoring depth. A big key will be keeping goalie Antti Raanta healthy after he was limited to 47 games a year ago. Do that and get the scoring boost they're expecting and don't be surprised to see the Coyotes in the playoff hunt late in the season.
OTTAWA: LAST SEASON: 28-43-11, 67 points. Finished seventh in Atlantic Division and missed playoffs.
COACH: Guy Boucher (Third season, sixth NHL season)
ADDED: F Mikkel Boedker, C Chris Tierney, D Dylan DeMelo
LOST: D Erik Karlsson, RW Mike Hoffman
PLAYER TO WATCH: Mark Stone. Karlsson is gone, Hoffman is gone and the high-scoring 26-year-old forward is one of the only stars left with the Senators as they go into what owner Eugene Melnyk is unafraid to call a rebuild. Stone had 20 goals and 42 assists last season for a team that finished well out of the playoff race and will have to produce at least that much with less talent around them.
OUTLOOK: Pain. It's going to be a rough season in Ottawa and likely several of them after trading two-time Norris Trophy-winning Karlsson to San Jose for spare parts, prospects and draft picks. The Senators are in for a lot of losing and more trades, including pending free agents like Matt Duchene and maybe even Stone to make way for more teenagers and young players.
PREVIEW
Coyotes find winning formula with Senators next

Vinnie Hinostroza rediscovered his scoring touch.

But just having him back in the lineup has been a boon for the Arizona Coyotes.

Hinostroza scored in the third period Sunday night in a 4-2 victory at Toronto, his first goal in 11 games since returning from an injury.

The Coyotes will continue their three-game eastern Canada trip Tuesday night at Ottawa and Wednesday in Montreal.

Hinostroza missed 10 games with a lower-body injury in December, during which the Coyotes went 3-7-0. They are 6-3-2 since he returned to the lineup and are in contention for a playoff berth despite missing several players because of injuries.

"We're really finding our identity here and how we want to play as a team," Hinostroza said.

Hinostroza, acquired in an offseason trade with Chicago, has been playing right wing on the second line with center Derek Stepan and Richard Panik.

"He's very quick on pucks, he's a good puck-handler, and he's got an underrated shot," Coyotes coach Rick Tocchet told NHL.com. "We've got to start letting him use it more. Yeah, he's got some skill and we definitely need some skill in our lineup."

With Sunday's victory, the Coyotes improved to 22-22-4 and pulled within four points of the Western Conference's second and final wild-card berth.

"We played the right way," said forward Clayton Keller, who also scored against the Maple Leafs. "We came out a little bit slow, but I think we settled down a little bit and stuck to our game plan."

The Senators, who entered the week in a three-way tie for last place in the Eastern Conference, had a two-game winning snapped with a 3-2 loss Saturday in St. Louis. It was just the second loss for the Senators in their past six games (4-2-0).

Goaltender Craig Anderson made 35 saves in his first start since Dec. 21. Anderson missed 11 games with a concussion.

"I thought overall it was pretty good," Anderson told NHL.com of his performance.

"Didn't get the result. We definitely want to get wins here and that's a big part. ... Overall, I felt like I was in shape and seeing the puck pretty good and battling. That was a big thing, just trying to get that timing back and it was there."

Blues defenseman Carl Gunnarsson scored a controversial go-ahead goal with 7:44 left in the third period.

The Senators unsuccessfully challenged the play, claiming Anderson had covered the puck moments before it was knocked free by Pat Maroon.

"It is what it is and our players have no control over it," Senators coach Guy Boucher told NHL.com. "Our goalie did everything he could and that's a clear, clear, clear, clear save."

Anderson agreed.

"I think the play was covered in my opinion, but the referee was on the other side of the ice and didn't see it, so there's nothing you can do about it so you have to move on," Anderson said. "I think the indication was that most everyone on the ice stopped playing."

Senators defenseman Mark Borowiecki missed the game and was listed as day-to-day with a lower-body injury suffered Friday.
