| | | OTTAWA: LAST SEASON: 37-31-14, 88 points, finished 11th in the Eastern Conference and missed the playoffs.
COACH: Paul MacLean, fourth season with Ottawa, 102-79-30.
ADDED: RW Alex Chiasson, C David Legwand.
LOST: RW Alex Hemsky, C Jason Spezza.
PLAYER TO WATCH: Bobby Ryan. The right winger is in the final year of a five-year, $25.5 million deal, and according to general manager Bryan Murray has decided to wait before determining whether to re-sign. Murray noted the sides will talk ''in October or November to get something done.''
OUTLOOK: It was only 2012 and 2013 when many thought Ottawa was a franchise on the ascent after back-to-back playoff appearances. Now the Senators are facing an uncertain future as Ottawa lost centers Daniel Alfredsson and Spezza the last two offseasons. There is a very real possibility the organization may have to deal Ryan and Methot during the season if the players cannot come to terms with the team. It is not a playoff formula. | | MONTREAL: LAST SEASON: 46-28-8, 100 points; lost to New York Rangers in Eastern Conference final.
COACH: Michel Therrien, seventh season with Canadiens, 287-224-23-58.
ADDED: D Tom Gilbert, C Manny Malhotra, RW P.A. Parenteau, RW Jiri Sekac.
LOST: C Daniel Briere, RW Brian Gionta, D Josh Gorges, LW Thomas Vanek.
PLAYER TO WATCH: P.K. Subban: The 43rd overall pick in the 2007 draft solidified his status as a top-five defenseman in the NHL following a 2013-14 regular season in which he recorded 53 points (10 goals, 43 assists) in 82 games, and added another 11 (five goals and six assists) in 17 playoff games. And he isn't going anywhere. The Canadiens and Subban agreed to an eight-year, $72 million contract in the offseason.
OUTLOOK: The Canadiens earned the ire of playoff foes Boston and New York for on-ice antics and their off-ice loquaciousness. But teams don't dislike opponents who aren't good. The Canadiens are just that, and should find themselves in the playoffs come April. |

*Senators-Canadiens Preview* ============================
By JEFF BARTL STATS Senior Writer
Ottawa (13-12-6) at Montreal (20-11-2), 7:00 p.m. EDT
When Max Pacioretty lay on the ice following a hard hit earlier this week, the Montreal Canadiens worried not only about their star's health but also the potential of having to move forward without their offensive leader.
Although Pacioretty seems to have escaped a major injury, its unclear if he'll play Saturday night when the Canadiens look to win a fourth straight matchup with the visiting Ottawa Senators.
Pacioretty spent time in the hospital after being hit by Anaheim defenseman Clayton Stoner four minutes into the third period of Thursday's 2-1 defeat. But the 26-year-old, who has team highs of 13 goals and 25 points, was in the building during Friday's practice and is listed as day to day with an upper-body injury.
Coach Michel Therrien didn't give a definitive answer regarding Pacioretty's status for this contest.
"Everyone knows how badly he wants to be in there," winger Brendan Gallagher told the team's official website. "He's going to get back out there as quickly as possible.
"If he's out, guys have to step up and play the role. Whoever is in that position just has to do what's being asked of them."
Montreal (20-11-2) outscored opponents 13-4 during a three-game winning streak before falling short against the Ducks. Alex Galchenyuk assisted on David Desharnais' goal not long after Pacioretty went down.
Galchenyuk was coming off a hat trick in Tuesday's 4-1 win over Carolina after scoring just once in his previous 15 games.
"It's about improving every part of my game," the 20-year-old forward said. "I just want to be as dynamic as I can and be more of a difference maker, because I truly believe that I can be one."
Whether or not Pacioretty can play, Therrien plans to shuffle his lineup a bit. Desharnais will move from center to the left wing on a line with Lars Eller and P.A. Parenteau as Eller returns after missing the last five games with an upper-body injury.
Desharnais estimated the last time he played on the wing was in the 2011 playoffs, and it was a short stay.
"I just need to keep bringing what I've been bringing," said Desharnais, who has two goals and two assists during a three-game point streak. "It doesn't change my game."
Pacioretty had a hat trick and two assists in Montreal's 7-4 victory in the last meeting with Ottawa on April 4 and has totaled four goals and three assists during the Canadiens' winning streak in the series.
The Senators (14-12-6) come into this matchup on a bit of a roll, though, improving to 3-0-1 over their last four after beating the NHL-leading Ducks 6-2 on Friday.
It marked the first back-to-back wins since Nov. 4-6 for Ottawa, which set a season high for goals as Mike Hoffman scored two and Kyle Turris had one with an assist.
Turris had two goals in Wednesday's win at New Jersey after going scoreless in his previous 10.
"It's something that comes and goes over an 82-game season and you just try to take advantage of when it's coming," Turris said. "I feel like we've been playing better and playing with more pace."
Craig Anderson made 32 saves, but the Senators could turn to Robin Lehner to complete the back-to-back set. Lehner lost 5-4 in overtime the last time he faced the Canadiens on March 15.
Carey Price, 3-1-0 with a 1.51 goals-against average in his last four starts, could be in net for Montreal. He's allowed four goals in each of his last three starts against the Senators but is 2-0-1.
