KEY GAME INFORMATION
WINNIPEG:

LAST SEASON: 37-35-10, 84 points. Missed playoffs by finishing 10th in Eastern Conference.

COACH: Claude Noel, 2nd season with Jets, 37-35-10; 3rd overall, 47-43-16 in NHL.

ADDED: C Olli Jokinen, LW Alexei Ponikarovsky, G Al Montoya.

LOST: G Chris Mason, LW Tanner Glass, RW Tim Stapleton, D Mark Flood.

PLAYER TO WATCH: After nearly making the team out of training camp last season, 19-year-old center Mark Scheifele is eager for another shot this year. He's a dependable two-way forward who's enjoyed a solid first half of the season playing for Barrie of the Ontario Hockey League.

OUTLOOK: Will the honeymoon of the NHL's return to Winnipeg be over after last season? The former Atlanta Thrashers are still stuck in what's becoming a tough Southeast Division. And until the NHL realigns its divisions, the Jets are still stuck with a grueling travel schedule that could wear them down in a tightly packed 48-game schedule.

FLORIDA:

LAST SEASON: 38-26-18, 94 points. Lost to New Jersey 4-3 in first round.

COACH: Kevin Dineen, 2nd season with Panthers, 38-26-18; 2nd overall in NHL.

ADDED: D Filip Kuba, C Peter Mueller, RW George Parros, RW Alex Kovalev.

LOST: D Jason Garrison, LW Wojtek Wolski, C John Madden.

PLAYER TO WATCH: Kovalev. He's still strong and talented, and could be the perfect fit for a second line that sometimes struggled with scoring a year ago. Plus, considering how much Florida struggles with shootouts, someone like Kovalev could pay immediate dividends.

OUTLOOK: Most of the team that won the Southeast Division title last season is back. The Panthers might have one of the best 1-2 goaltending combos in the league with Jose Theodore and Scott Clemmensen. If health isn't an issue, the Panthers could go deeper in the playoffs this time around.

*Jets-Panthers Preview* =======================

By TAYLOR BECHTOLD STATS Writer

Winnipeg (10-10-1) at Florida (6-11-5), 7:30 p.m. EDT

After having their winning streak snapped in their last home game, the Winnipeg Jets hope to get back on track where they've seemed to be most comfortable lately.

The Jets will try for their sixth road win in seven games on Tuesday night when they begin a four-game trip against the sinking Florida Panthers.

Winnipeg (10-10-1) dropped four of its first five road games, but turned things around with a 4-1 record on its recent season-long five-game trip. The Jets have won five of their last seven overall.

"We've got (four) on the road here so we've got to be ready to go and be the road warriors again like we were last time," left wing Evander Kane said.

After allowing 18 goals during an earlier three-game road losing streak that included stops in Florida and Tampa, the Jets have given up just 2.3 goals per game while winning five of their last six away from home - including four one-goal victories.

Ondrej Pavelec is 4-1-0 with a 2.62 goals-against average in his last five road contests.

Pavelec was in net for Saturday's 3-0 home loss to Washington, but if he gets the call Tuesday he should feel good about his chances to bounce back. Pavelec won each of his first five career starts at Florida - posting a .938 save percentage - before losing 6-3 to the Panthers on Jan. 31.

Six different players had goals and Tomas Fleischmann added three assists in that contest for the Panthers (6-11-5), who are 1-3-4 at home since. They've also lost 10 of 12 overall to fall into a tie with the Capitals at the bottom of the Eastern Conference.

"We've got to get our job done and we're not getting it done," defenseman Brian Campbell said. "It's not acceptable. This is not going to be a fun place to be if you're not winning."

Jonathan Huberdeau has scored in both meeting against the Jets this season and leads the team with 10 goals after scoring twice in a 3-2 home loss to Carolina on Sunday.

Fleischmann failed to score for the third straight game, but has two goals and four assists in his last three in this series.

Scott Clemmensen finished with 21 saves on Sunday after No. 1 goalie Jose Theodore went down with a torn groin a day earlier, but Jacob Markstrom is expected to get the call Tuesday. The 23-year-old is 0-2-0 with a 3.05 GAA for the Panthers this season.

This time, he'll face a Winnipeg team coming off its first shutout since Feb. 5, 2012, against Montreal.

The Jets have scored 18 goals in winning three of their last four games against Florida, though, the latest of which was a 3-2 overtime home victory Feb. 5 thanks to Bryan Little's power-play winner. Mark Stuart and Blake Wheeler also scored in that meeting.

Little's man-advantage goal was the team's ninth in its first nine games, but Winnipeg has gone just 1 for 32 on the power play in 12 games since.

The Jets may be able to get something going in that area against the Panthers, who rank 29th in the league in penalty-kill percentage (75.0). Only Winnipeg (72.7) is worse.
