KEY GAME INFORMATION
TAMPA BAY: LAST SEASON: 46-27-9, 101 points. Swept in first round of playoffs by Montreal.
COACH: Jon Cooper, second full season with Lighting, 51-35-12.
ADDED: F Brian Boyle, F Brenden Morrow, D Anton Stralman, D Jason Garrison, G Evgeni Nabokov, F Jonathan Drouin.
LOST: G Anders Lindback, F Ryan Malone, F Teddy Purcell, F Nate Thompson, D Sami Salo.
PLAYER TO WATCH: Ondrej Palat. One of the NHL's top rookies last season. With Steven Stamkos missing a significant portion of the year and Martin St. Louis departing in a late-season trade, Palat finished with team-leading 50 points, including 23 goals. Third among league rookies in goals and second in points, he led all rookies with 44 points after Jan. 1.
OUTLOOK: With Bishop healthy again after missing the playoffs with a dislocated elbow, many expect the Lightning to prosper in the relatively weak Eastern Conference and make a deep run in the playoffs. Stamkos has scored more goals (210) than any player in the league since the start of the 2009-10 season and Bishop is coming off a season in which he set franchise season records for wins (37), save percentage (.924) and goals-against average (2.23).
DETROIT: LAST SEASON: 39-28-15, 93 points. Lost in first round of playoffs.
COACH: Mike Babcock, 10th season with Red Wings, 415-198-91; 12th overall in NHL.
ADDED: C Andy Miele, C Kevin Porter.
LOST: RW Mikael Samuelsson, C Cory Emmerton, C David Legwand, RW Todd Bertuzzi.
PLAYER TO WATCH: Gustav Nyquist. The 25-year-old Swede is coming off a breakout season in which he scored a team-high 28 goals in only 57 games. If the Red Wings are going to return to the NHL's elite, they're going to need younger players like Nyquist to grow into significant roles alongside aging stars like Henrik Zetterberg and Pavel Datsyuk.
OUTLOOK: If injuries mount like last season, the Red Wings may have to fight down the stretch to extend their streak of 23 straight playoff appearances. Datsyuk is expected to miss the start of the regular season with a separated shoulder.

*Lightning-Red Wings Preview* =============================

By KEVIN CHROUST STATS Writer

Tampa Bay At Detroit, Game Four, 7:00 p.m. EDT

Mike Babcock stuck with Petr Mrazek in Game 3, and the Detroit goaltender shut out the NHL's top-scoring team from the regular season.

If he's able to do it again Thursday night, the Red Wings will head back to Tampa with a shot at closing out their first-round series with the Lightning.

Playoff rookie Mrazek, Babcock's pick as the starter over veteran Jimmy Howard, made 22 saves in Tuesday's 3-0 victory after a rough Game 2 in which he allowed four goals on 18 shots and was replaced by Howard in a 5-1 loss.

"Huge win for us, first game home, first win. But it's over," Mrazek told the team's official website. "We have to look for Thursday now and we have two games more."

It was the 23-year-old's fourth shutout in 14 starts dating to Feb. 5, a stretch in which he's gone 7-5-1 with a .935 save percentage. That includes a 4-0 home victory over Tampa Bay on March 28, so he's gone 3-1 with two shutouts and a .945 save percentage in under a month against the Lightning, who scored 3.16 goals per game in the regular season.

Mrazek pointed to a penalty kill that went 6 for 6 and is 17 of 19 in the team's last four games overall to explain some of the success.

The consecutive home shutouts against Tampa Bay, however, are just the latest in an all-time string of dominance at Joe Louis Arena in a series that's now at 16-2-2 with one tie. If the Lightning aren't able to break through at least once on the road in the series, the team with the fifth-best point total in hockey won't see the second round.

"Coming in here, we had to get one game," forward Ryan Callahan told the team's official website. "We wanted it to be the first one, it's not. So we've got to move on and try to get that next one."

That might require Tampa Bay to do some work deeper in the Red Wings' zone to disrupt Mrazek. The Lightning have a 98-59 shot advantage in the series, yet find themselves down.

"We could have made it a little harder on him," Tampa Bay's Brian Boyle said. "He did make some really good saves though."

At the other end, Pavel Datsyuk gave the Red Wings a first-period lead for the second time in three games before Riley Sheahan and Luke Glendening added to the lead in the third. Datsyuk has scored in four of his last five games and has 13 in his last 24.

The Lightning are getting a bit of a drought from their go-to scorer at an unfortunate time. Steven Stamkos has been limited to two assists in his last four games and has three goals in his last 13. Against Detroit, he's been held without a goal for four games and he's gone six straight postseason contests without scoring.

That likely has plenty to do with Tampa Bay now having lost six straight road playoff games and seven of its last eight overall, including a four-game sweep at the hands of Montreal last season.

Detroit hasn't been a whole lot better having dropped eight of 11 in the playoffs while scoring just 18 goals without consecutive wins.

The Red Wings haven't put a ton of pressure on Ben Bishop, who is also just three games into his postseason career, though the Lightning goaltender has posted an .888 save percentage in the four games against Detroit dating to last month while facing just 20.0 shots per game.

Tampa Bay defenseman Jason Garrison has been out with an upper-body injury since the meeting in Detroit last month, but he continues to skate and could return for Game 4.
