KEY GAME INFORMATION
ANAHEIM: ANAHEIM, Calif. (AP) - That brand-new Pacific Division title banner in the Honda Center rafters is going to mock the Anaheim Ducks until they figure out how to back up their regular-season prowess with playoff success.
With Teemu Selanne back for one last run at the Stanley Cup, the Ducks are eager to extend the Finnish Flash's final season well into the summer.
Anaheim went back to training camp this month still smarting from its seven-game loss to Detroit in the first round of last season's playoffs. The Ducks have still only won one playoff round since claiming their only NHL title in 2007 - none since 2009.
The best regular-season winning percentage in franchise history led to another early summer, and coach Bruce Boudreau is confident the Ducks are done with first-round flops.
CALGARY: CALGARY, Alberta (AP) - Flames coach Bob Hartley acknowledged the obvious when he publicly praised the selection of defenseman Mark Giordano as Calgary's captain.

``Mark represents all the qualities that we set as a coaching staff and an organization,'' Hartley said. ``He is a quality man who is proud to represent the Calgary Flames both on and off the ice. We are very happy with (him) setting the example for our team, and especially our young players, as we move through this crucial yet exciting period in the history of the Flames franchise.''
Indeed, they will need all the help they can get. Calgary is coming off another disappointing season, and there are fewer and fewer stars around the locker room these days.
The Flames launched a complete rebuilding of the franchise at the trade deadline last season, and continued the overhaul during the offseason with a series of trades. A playoff berth doesn't seem likely this year, but Calgary will have a foundation for the future, if nothing else.
The Flames open vs. Washington on Oct. 3.

*Ducks-Flames Preview* ======================

By JEFF MEZYDLO STATS Senior Writer

Anaheim (46-18-7) at Calgary (30-35-7), 10:00 p.m. EDT

Two weeks ago, the Anaheim Ducks left Calgary humbled.

Back in the Saddledome to face the Flames on Wednesday night, the Ducks have a chance to avenge one of their worst defeats of the season.

Anaheim (46-18-7) held Calgary to two goals each time while winning both home meetings this season, but the Flames (30-35-7) routed the Ducks 7-2 on March 12. Calgary scored four times in the first period and led 5-0 before Andrew Cogliano tallied for Anaheim, which allowed a season high for goals while matching its largest margin of defeat in 2013-14.

"I think every guy in the room should be completely embarrassed at how they played - every single person," Cogliano said after Anaheim dropped its fourth in a row with that loss.

The result might have lit a spark under the Ducks, who rebounded with a 6-4 win at Colorado and a 2-1 victory at Los Angeles. Anaheim followed those wins with consecutive 3-2 losses to Washington and San Jose, but bounced back with a 6-2 victory over Florida on Sunday.

"We got back to doing what we need to be doing," said forward Ryan Getzlaf, who had a goal and two assists. "We find a way to get open and get shots. We clicked better."

The Ducks are chasing the Sharks for the top spot in the Pacific Division, and remain in the mix for the Presidents' Trophy.

"We know as a group how good we can be," said forward Corey Perry, who also had a goal and two assists Sunday. "If we play the style we have to play to be successful, we're going to be all right. We just need to keep pushing forward."

Perry had a team-high eight of the Ducks' 40 shots against the Panthers. They've reached that mark in two of their last three games.

Anaheim has made some special teams progress in the last two contests, going 2 for 5 on the power play after it was 0 for 21 in the previous six and 2 for 47 over 14.

The Ducks also killed off their lone penalty Sunday after opponents went 9 for 23 (39.1 percent) while scoring a power-play goal in seven straight contests.

Calgary has won two in a row, topping its March 12 goal output against the Ducks with an 8-1 rout of Edmonton on Saturday. The Flames followed with a 2-1 shootout home victory over the Sharks on Monday for their fifth win in seven games.

Karri Ramo made 33 saves and Michael Cammalleri scored the only goal in the tiebreaker as Calgary won for the 10th time in 13 home contests.

Though the Flames are set to miss the playoffs for a fifth straight year, they're 17-17-3 at the Saddledome and have a chance to extend their streak of consecutive seasons with a winning home record to four, though that will require them to win their remaining four games in Calgary.

"Let's play well at home, let's get a swagger in this building," coach Bob Hartley said. "The way we're playing right now is maybe a small way to say thank you for all our great support."

Mikael Backlund's four-game point streak ended Monday, but the Calgary forward had two goals and an assist against the Ducks two weeks ago.

Getzlaf has six points in three games and Perry has five in two, but both were held without one and were a combined minus-6 on March 12.
