| | | NASHVILLE: LAST SEASON: 38-32-12, 88 points. Missed the playoffs by finishing 10th in the Western Conference.
COACH: Peter Laviolette, 1st season with Predators, 389-282-25-63 overall.
ADDED: F James Neal, F Olli Jokinen, F Mike Ribeiro, F Derek Roy.
LOST: Coach Barry Trotz, goaltenders coach Mitch Korn, F Patric Hornqvist, F Nick Spaling.
PLAYER TO WATCH: G Pekka Rinne. Even with Ribeiro needing to prove his personal issues have been handled, Rinne is the two-time Vezina Trophy finalist who anchors Nashville's defense. He only played 24 games last season after an infection in his surgically-repaired hip needed more surgery, keeping him on crutches for weeks. Rinne went 3-0-1 in his final four games and was the MVP of the World Championships.
OUTLOOK: The Predators missed the playoffs by three points with Rinne missing much of last season. Laviolette is expected to boost the Predators' offense and take advantage of the experienced forwards added during the offseason, and general manager David Poile has made it clear they must reach the playoffs. | | BOSTON: LAST SEASON: 54-19-9, 117 points, most in the NHL. Lost to Montreal Canadiens in second round of playoffs.
COACH: Claude Julien, eighth season in Boston (310-165-65); 12th overall in NHL.
ADDED: F Simon Gagne, G Niklas Svedberg.
LOST: F Jarome Iginla, F Shawn Thornton, G Chad Johnson.
PLAYER TO WATCH: Defenseman Zdeno Chara is 37, and it's not clear how long his 6-foot-9 body can hold up. He played in 77 games, but had the least time on the ice (in a non-lockout season) since his arrival in Boston in 2006, and his fewest points and penalty minutes as a Bruin, too. He finished the season with a broken finger. Still, he was a finalist for the Norris Trophy, which he won in 2009.
OUTLOOK: After winning the Stanley Cup in 2011 and returning to the finals two seasons later, the Bruins posted the NHL's best record last season but were knocked out of the playoffs by the rival Canadiens in seven games in the second round. The Bruins return essentially the same team, including Selke Trophy winner Patrice Bergeron and Vezina winner Tuukka Rask, who led the league with seven shutouts, finished second with a .930 save percentage and was fourth with a 2.03 goals-against average. |

*Predators-Bruins Preview* ==========================
By JEFF BARTL STATS Senior Writer
Nashville (21-8-2) at Boston (17-14-3), 7:00 p.m. EDT
The Boston Bruins have been one of the most successful NHL clubs over the last four seasons, but that gives them little comfort knowing they haven't been at their best in 2014-15.
While Boston has slid from its Presidents' Trophy-winning form from last season, the Nashville Predators have continued their surprising and impressive turnaround.
The Bruins look to avenge last week's defeat by snapping Nashville's three-game winning streak Tuesday night in Boston.
A Stanley Cup title in 2011, Eastern Conference championship two years later and last season's 117-point campaign contributed to many believing Boston (17-14-3) again would be among the league's elite.
Things haven't gone as expected, though, and the Bruins' recent 2-5-3 stretch culminating with last Tuesday's 3-2 shootout loss at Nashville led to some frustration.
They've given themselves a boost by winning two of three, as Loui Eriksson scored overtime goals in a 3-2 win over Minnesota on Wednesday and Sunday's 4-3 victory over Buffalo. They fell 2-1 at Winnipeg on Friday.
"I think it's starting to turn around a little bit," said Milan Lucic, who assisted on Eriksson's second winner. "The last (six) games have been one-goal games, and when you're in one-goal games, it's because you're doing things right.
"We've got to find a way to roll with it and get some momentum and not take anymore steps backwards. We need to start pushing and moving forward."
Dougie Hamilton had two goals and an assist against the Sabres as Boston won for only the second time in its last six at home.
"I think it was a gut check," coach Claude Julien said. "Wins are tough to come by these days, so when you get them, you take them and you try to build on the positives."
Nashville (22-8-2) has experienced plenty of positive moments under coach Peter Laviolette, who took over for the fired Barry Trotz after last season's sixth-place finish.
The Predators, whose current winning streak began when they beat Boston for the first time in four meetings, are two points behind Central Division-leading Chicago with two games in hand after dominating Columbus 5-1 on Monday for their fifth victory in six games.
Craig Smith ended a nine-game goal drought in Saturday's 6-5 overtime win over Minnesota before scoring twice against the Blue Jackets. Colin Wilson had a goal and an assist while Mike Fisher, who scored in the first meeting with the Bruins, added a goal.
"We play a fast-paced game with a lot of energy," said Pekka Rinne, who made 30 saves. "It seems to be working. We seem to have the right players to do that. We've been getting timely goals. But also, we are not sacrificing defensively. It's a whole team effort."
The Predators have allowed the fewest goals in the league with Rinne posting a 1.84 goals-against average and an NHL-best 22 victories. Carter Hutton could be in net for this contest, though, as Nashville completes a three-game road trip.
Hutton is 0-2-1 with a 2.32 GAA in three starts.
Tuukka Rask, who won the Vezina Trophy last season with a 2.04 GAA, is 1-2-2 with a 2.33 GAA in his last five and has a 2.52 mark on the season. He's 1-0-2 with a .924 save percentage in three career starts against the Predators after making 38 stops in the first meeting.
