KEY GAME INFORMATION
MINNESOTA: ST. PAUL, Minn. (AP) - That buzz created by signing two big stars turned out to be a false start for the Minnesota Wild.
First there was the lockout. Then they sputtered through a shortened season, barely made the playoffs and were bounced out quickly by the Stanley Cup champion Chicago Blackhawks.
Well, here's their chance to try again. Coach Mike Yeo kept his job, and the Wild added players around centerpieces Zach Parise and Ryan Suter.
Minnesota opens the season at home Oct. 3 against the Los Angeles Kings.
ANAHEIM: ANAHEIM, Calif. (AP) - That brand-new Pacific Division title banner in the Honda Center rafters is going to mock the Anaheim Ducks until they figure out how to back up their regular-season prowess with playoff success.
With Teemu Selanne back for one last run at the Stanley Cup, the Ducks are eager to extend the Finnish Flash's final season well into the summer.
Anaheim went back to training camp this month still smarting from its seven-game loss to Detroit in the first round of last season's playoffs. The Ducks have still only won one playoff round since claiming their only NHL title in 2007 - none since 2009.
The best regular-season winning percentage in franchise history led to another early summer, and coach Bruce Boudreau is confident the Ducks are done with first-round flops.

*Wild-Ducks Preview* ====================

Minnesota (28-20-6) at Anaheim (39-10-5), 10:00 p.m. EDT

The Anaheim Ducks have won six straight over the Minnesota Wild, with five coming by one goal.

Jonas Hiller has been in net five times in that span.

Hiller has beaten the Wild twice this season and posted his Western Conference-best fourth shutout his last time out, and he could get the start again Tuesday night as the teams meet in Anaheim.

The Ducks (39-10-5) have made a habit of winning tight games against the Wild (28-20-6), with four straight one-goal victories. Anaheim won 4-3 in overtime on the road Oct. 5 and 2-1 at home Dec. 11.

The common thread was Hiller, who is 11-4-1 with a 2.20 goals-against average as a starter against Minnesota. His GAA is 1.57 in his last five appearances in the series.

Hiller dealt well with the surroundings of Dodger Stadium in a 3-0 victory over Los Angeles on Saturday. He had 36 saves to avoid a third straight defeat with his second shutout in four starts.

"I think it was a really tough game to play for both sides because the puck seemed to bounce a lot," Hiller said. "It didn't get like too many nice plays. So it was kind of like everything was at the net. And we had to find a way to keep the puck out."

Anaheim has gone 21-3-0 in its last 24. Corey Perry and Matt Beleskey had first-period goals and Andrew Cogliano scored into an empty net.

"We're seeing guys limping off the ice and not wanting to miss a shift," coach Bruce Boudreau said. "I think it's true character. I know other teams have it and that, but I know we have it in spades. I think it's something that keeps us going is the desire to be successful. I mean, those guys really want to win."

Minnesota coach Mike Yeo was also content with his team's performance in the opener of a four-game trip Saturday, a 3-2 overtime loss to San Jose in which the Wild blew a two-goal lead.

"When you don't get the second one (point), it still stings for sure, but I think when we put this behind us and take a deep breath, we'll realize it's not a bad way to start as long as we come out and build off it and that's the goal," Yeo said.

One issue is the play of the top line of Zach Parise, Charlie Coyle and Nino Niederreiter. The unit has failed to produce a point in both games since Parise returned after missing 14 with a broken left foot.

"I thought our line had a lot of good chances throughout the whole game," Parise said. "It doesn't mean much when you don't convert on them but we spent a lot of time in the offensive zone and had some decent rush chances."

Parise had a team-high four shots on goal and Coyle added three, though Niederreiter didn't have any.

Parise has a team-high eight power-play goals for Minnesota, which is 0 for 21 with the man advantage in the last eight games.

Perry and Ryan Getzlaf have combined for 41 points in the Ducks' last 17 contests. Perry sat out practice Monday but is expected to play.

This matchup features several of the top defensemen in the league, as Anaheim's Francois Beauchemin and Hampus Lindholm are among the NHL leaders at plus-25 and plus-24, respectively. Minnesota's Ryan Suter averages a league-high 29:34 of ice time.
