KEY GAME INFORMATION
DETROIT: DETROIT (AP) - The Detroit Red Wings seem to have set themselves up for success as they shift to the Eastern Conference.
Detroit added Daniel Alfredsson and Stephen Weiss to a roster that includes most of the key players from last year's team. The Red Wings extended the franchise's playoff streak to 22 last season and were a win away from eliminating Chicago and advancing to the conference finals.
General manager Ken Holland accomplished his No. 1 goal of the offseason, re-signing superstar Pavel Datsyuk to prevent him from being a free agent next summer. Holland also boosted the team's ability to score with a surprising acquisition, adding Alfredsson after he spent his entire career with the Ottawa Senators.
Detroit opens the season at home Oct. 2 against Buffalo.
ANAHEIM: ANAHEIM, Calif. (AP) - That brand-new Pacific Division title banner in the Honda Center rafters is going to mock the Anaheim Ducks until they figure out how to back up their regular-season prowess with playoff success.
With Teemu Selanne back for one last run at the Stanley Cup, the Ducks are eager to extend the Finnish Flash's final season well into the summer.
Anaheim went back to training camp this month still smarting from its seven-game loss to Detroit in the first round of last season's playoffs. The Ducks have still only won one playoff round since claiming their only NHL title in 2007 - none since 2009.
The best regular-season winning percentage in franchise history led to another early summer, and coach Bruce Boudreau is confident the Ducks are done with first-round flops.

*Red Wings-Ducks Preview* =========================

By TAYLOR BECHTOLD STATS Writer

Detroit (20-15-10) at Anaheim (34-8-5), 8:00 p.m. EDT

The Anaheim Ducks have been outstanding at both ends on their home ice, but they might have to continue their run without Ryan Getzlaf and Jonas Hiller.

The Detroit Red Wings will certainly try to rattle goaltender John Gibson should he make his debut Sunday night when the Ducks look to remain unbeaten in regulation at the Honda Center.

Hampus Lindholm scored twice and Getzlaf added his 23rd goal of the season as league-best Anaheim (34-8-5) won its sixth straight and 16th in the last 17 by beating host Phoenix 5-3 on Saturday.

After completing a sweep of the five-game season series with the Coyotes, the surging Ducks hope to improve on their NHL-best 18-0-2 home record.

Getzlaf, however, may not be available after sustaining a lower-body injury in the second period. X-rays were negative on the Anaheim captain, who ranks among the NHL leaders with 53 points.

He has a five-game point streak at home versus Detroit (20-15-10), including last season's first-round playoff series that the Red Wings won in seven games.

Without Getzlaf, the Ducks may have to rely on another strong defensive performance. They're allowing 2.45 goals per game overall but that number drops to 1.90 at home - one of the top marks in the NHL.

Hiller is 13-0-2 with a 1.98 goals-against average at the Honda Center, while backup Frederik Andersen is 4-0-0 with a 1.36 GAA.

Coach Bruce Boudreau said there's a chance Hiller could play back-to-back nights, though it will depend on how he recovers after winning his 13th straight start Saturday.

The Ducks sent Andersen to the AHL on Friday for more consistent playing time and recalled Gibson, the MVP of the 2013 world junior championships after backstopping the U.S. team to the title.

If Hiller isn't able to go, the 20-year-old Gibson will make his debut after going 11-9-3 with a .915 save percentage in Norfolk.

"I'll talk to the goaltending coach on the plane," Boudreau said. "We'll talk to Hilly and see how he feels, and then we'll make a decision."

Anaheim should be able to provide plenty of support since it ranks near the top of the league with 3.95 goals per game at home and has scored at least four goals in each of its six games overall.

With Jimmy Howard out because of a knee injury, the Ducks had their way with Detroit's backup goaltenders in a 5-2 road win Dec. 17. They will miss Howard again after he finished with 44 saves in Saturday's 3-1 win at Los Angeles in the opener of a back-to-back situation.

Backup Petr Mrazek will make his fourth start this season for the Red Wings. He's 1-2-0 in those games despite a 1.68 GAA.

While they're just 6-10-7 at home, the Red Wings have the best road record in the Eastern Conference at 14-5-3 after a 2-1 start to this five-game trip.

Tomas Tatar has scored in each of the first three games for Detroit, which ranks near the top of the league with 3.14 goals per game away from home. The Red Wings, however, could be missing two of their top scorers with Pavel Datsyuk (lower body) and Daniel Alfredsson (back) day-to-day after both sat out Saturday.

Detroit is 4-1-1 in its last six regular-season visits to Anaheim.
