KEY GAME INFORMATION
EDMONTON:
EDMONTON, Alberta (AP) - The Edmonton Oilers have been stuck in rebuilding mode for some time, but the hope this season is that this youthful bunch - laced with first-round picks - returns to a place this franchise used to dominate.
The postseason.
Indeed, the Oilers - a once-dynastic franchise - has not qualified for the playoffs in seven straight seasons. But there is a benefit to Edmonton's on-ice failings: The Oilers have been able to stockpile high-end talent in defenseman Justin Schultz and forwards Ryan Nugent-Hopkins, Nail Yakupov, Taylor Hall and Jordan Eberle.
Many inside and outside the organization believe Edmonton's collection of talent will eventually lead the Oilers back to a Stanley Cup, which would be their sixth. For now, though, a playoff berth would do just fine.
Edmonton opens against Winnipeg on Oct. 1.
ANAHEIM: ANAHEIM, Calif. (AP) - That brand-new Pacific Division title banner in the Honda Center rafters is going to mock the Anaheim Ducks until they figure out how to back up their regular-season prowess with playoff success.
With Teemu Selanne back for one last run at the Stanley Cup, the Ducks are eager to extend the Finnish Flash's final season well into the summer.
Anaheim went back to training camp this month still smarting from its seven-game loss to Detroit in the first round of last season's playoffs. The Ducks have still only won one playoff round since claiming their only NHL title in 2007 - none since 2009.
The best regular-season winning percentage in franchise history led to another early summer, and coach Bruce Boudreau is confident the Ducks are done with first-round flops.

*Oilers-Ducks Preview* ======================

By NICOLINO DIBENEDETTO STATS Writer

Edmonton (13-25-5) at Anaheim (29-8-5), 10:00 p.m. EDT

The Anaheim Ducks have won 11 of 12 games, and remain the only team in the NHL without a regulation home loss.

They're still not satisfied.

The Ducks look to continue their staggering run and maintain their dominance of the Western Conference-worst Edmonton Oilers on Friday night.

Anaheim (29-8-5) is one point behind NHL-leading Chicago, thanks in large part to an 11-1-0 stretch that includes a franchise-record 10-game winning streak. That run came to an end with Sunday's 3-1 loss at San Jose, but the Ducks rebounded by earning a split of the home-and-home set with a 6-3 victory Tuesday.

Anaheim, though, wasn't too happy with its latest performance since it was outshot 17-8 in the opening period, before holding a 30-19 advantage over the next two.

"We're a good hockey club, and we know it," said center Ryan Getzlaf, the NHL's third-leading scorer with 47 points. "But we also know we've got to get better. Games like this, when you come out flat, teams will bury you."

That hasn't been the case at the Honda Center, where the Ducks own the best home record in the league at 15-0-2. Coach Bruce Boudreau feels the atmosphere is a big reason behind that success.

"We've had good success at home and we love playing in this building in front of our fans," he told the team's official website. "We loved it (Tuesday), especially, when (our fans) were rowdy and (the arena) was full. It's amazing how much energy that gives to the players."

A meeting with the Oilers (13-25-5) should keep the Ducks dominant at home. They've won five straight and 15 of the past 17 meetings.

Anaheim has also won six of eight at home, including a 3-2 victory Dec. 15. Dustin Penner scored the tiebreaking goal with 3:17 to play - his only score in his last 12 contests. He was a healthy scratch Tuesday, as Jakob Silfverberg took his place on the top line with Getzlaf and Corey Perry.

Jonas Hiller had 23 saves in last month's meeting. He'll likely be back in net since he's 12-2-0 with a 1.67 goals-against average and two shutouts over his last 16 games versus Edmonton.

Hiller is also on a franchise-record nine-game winning streak, during which he's compiled a 1.97 GAA after making 33 saves Tuesday.

"It's nice to be up there in the standings and to be able to achieve something like we have this year, but I don't think anybody is satisfied yet," Hiller said.

Getzlaf, who scored his 20th goal Tuesday, has 30 points in 26 career games with the Oilers, getting one in each of the last four.

Edmonton, which has lost nine of 11 (2-7-2), allowed the first four goals in a 5-1 loss at San Jose on Thursday.

"If you want any kind of success against good teams like that, you can't make it harder on yourselves," defenseman Andrew Ference said. "You have to limit the mistakes."

Taylor Hall, the team leader with 38 points, is looking to show some improvement after being kept off the score sheet while posting a minus-3 rating Thursday. He had eight points over his previous four games.

The left wing, though, has managed just two goals and one assist and is a minus-8 in 10 career meetings with the Ducks.

Ryan Nugent-Hopkins has four points in five matchups with Anaheim, including a goal Dec. 15.
