KEY GAME INFORMATION
PHOENIX: GLENDALE, Ariz. (AP) - The Phoenix Coyotes played the past four seasons with a chip on their shoulders, trying to prove they could win without an owner.
Now that there are owners looking over their shoulders, the Coyotes are facing something new: Expectations.
When IceArizona purchased the Coyotes from the NHL this summer, it put the Coyotes on the same financial and operational ground as the league's 29 other teams.
The group headed by George Gosbee and Anthony LeBlanc has already made a mark on the team, giving Phoenix the resources to re-sign goalie Mike Smith and lure top-line center Mike Ribeiro in free agency.
The next step for the Coyotes is to take their newfound stability - and wealth - and win more games after missing the playoffs last season.
ANAHEIM: ANAHEIM, Calif. (AP) - That brand-new Pacific Division title banner in the Honda Center rafters is going to mock the Anaheim Ducks until they figure out how to back up their regular-season prowess with playoff success.
With Teemu Selanne back for one last run at the Stanley Cup, the Ducks are eager to extend the Finnish Flash's final season well into the summer.
Anaheim went back to training camp this month still smarting from its seven-game loss to Detroit in the first round of last season's playoffs. The Ducks have still only won one playoff round since claiming their only NHL title in 2007 - none since 2009.
The best regular-season winning percentage in franchise history led to another early summer, and coach Bruce Boudreau is confident the Ducks are done with first-round flops.

*Coyotes-Ducks Preview* =======================

By JEFF BARTL STATS Writer

Phoenix (10-3-2) at Anaheim (12-3-1), 10:00 p.m. EDT

The Anaheim Ducks are happy to be home after spending more than two weeks on the road, and they'll be pretty excited if they're able to get Teemu Selanne back ahead of schedule, too.

The 43-year-old hopes to be on the ice Wednesday night against the Phoenix Coyotes, who are seeking a sixth straight victory.

Anaheim (12-3-1) is coming off a season-high eight-game road trip that spanned 15 days, ending the trip 5-0-1 after dropping the first two. Corey Perry and Kyle Palmieri scored in the first period as the Ducks beat the New York Rangers 2-1 on Monday.

"Obviously we're tired, but if we were to take (Tuesday) off, you kind of just sit around all day and get lethargic, and it might carry over into (Wednesday's) game," defenseman Cam Fowler said. "It was important for us to get to the rink and just get out there for a half hour and get a sweat going. Now we can go home and get all the rest we need."

Selanne was hit in the mouth with a high stick in Anaheim's 3-2 win over Philadelphia on Oct. 29, and he was expected to have oral surgery and miss up to two weeks. The veteran, though, said he only lost fake teeth - deeming surgery unnecessary - and he hopes to be back in the lineup Wednesday after missing the last three contests.

"I'm feeling good now. I've been skating a couple days, and (Tuesday) was the third day already," Selanne said. "I'm anxious to get back. Just watching your teammates playing is no fun."

He'll surely receive a warm reception from the home crowd if he were to play, along with a Ducks team that has won each of its five home games. Coach Bruce Boudreau, though, said the players can't become too relaxed now that they've returned home.

"It doesn't stop," Boudreau said. "The next three games (at home) and then four more on the road is a really tough stretch."

Selanne scored in regulation and added another in the shootout as Anaheim beat Phoenix 3-2 on Oct. 18, its fourth victory in the last five home meetings with the Coyotes.

"If you look at all the teams that have a chance to win or be playoff teams, they all have a good home record," Coyotes coach Dave Tippett said.

Phoenix (11-3-2), though, has won seven of eight since that contest and is riding a five-game winning streak after Tuesday's 3-2 shootout victory over Vancouver.

Shane Doan and Radim Vrbata had goals, and Mike Smith made 31 saves for the Coyotes, whose last three wins have come in shootouts.

"You get on a roll and you have confidence in a tight game," Doan said. "It makes a huge difference. It's a mental thing. The more confident we get, the better off we're going to be."

With Smith starting the first of a back-to-back set, Thomas Greiss could get his third start in net Wednesday. Greiss is 2-1-0 with a 2.61 goals-against average in four appearances this season, and he's 0-2-1 with a 2.36 GAA in three career starts versus the Ducks.

Anaheim could counter with Jonas Hiller after Frederik Andersen made 32 saves Monday. Hiller is 5-0-1 with a 1.62 GAA in his last six against Phoenix.
