KEY GAME INFORMATION
CALGARY:

LAST SEASON: 37-29-16, 90 points. Missed playoffs by finishing ninth in Western Conference.

COACH: Bob Hartley, first season.

ADDED: D Dennis Wideman, LW Jiri Hudler, C Roman Cervenka.

LOST: C Olli Jokinen, RW David Ross, D Scott Hannan, RW Guillaume Desbiens, RW Tom Kostopoulous.

PLAYER TO WATCH: Alex Tanguay, who played for Hartley a decade ago in Colorado, will be more familiar with the coach than his teammates. If he can click on the top line with Jarome Iginla, the Flames may have a puncher's chance.

OUTLOOK: Despite the addition of Cervenka, the Flames should be weak enough on defense to keep G Miikka Kiprusoff busy. If Tanguay and other forwards can click with Iginla, they may have a chance at catching lightning in a bottle, but in a tough division with the formidable Avalanche and Canucks, they would do well to nick the last playoff spot.

ANAHEIM:

LAST SEASON: 34-36-12, 80 points. Missed playoffs by finishing 11th in the Western Conference.

COACH: Bruce Boudreau, 2nd season with Ducks, 27-23-8; 6th overall, 228-111-48 in NHL.

ADDED: D Bryan Allen, D Sheldon Souray, G Viktor Fasth, LW Daniel Winnik, RW Brad Staubitz.

LOST: D Lubomir Visnovsky, LW Niklas Hagman, D Sheldon Brookbank, G Dan Ellis.

PLAYER TO WATCH: C Ryan Getzlaf. The Ducks' top playmaker heads into his contract year coming off the worst statistical season of his decorated career. The NHL and Olympic champion needs a huge season with Corey Perry, who's also heading for free agency.

OUTLOOK: Anaheim bolstered its defense with Allen and Souray, but largely kept its offense intact despite last season's disappointments. Even with few changes, the Ducks believe their star-studded veteran roster should be in the playoff hunt again

*Flames-Ducks Preview* ======================

By JEFF MEZYDLO STATS Senior Writer

Calgary (9-8-4) at Anaheim (16-3-3), 10:30 p.m. EDT

After facing the same team for three straight games, the Anaheim Ducks should be eager for the chance to extend their home winning streak against a different opponent Friday night.

The Ducks look for a 10th straight victory at Honda Center while also trying to continue their home success against a Calgary Flames team seeking a season-high third consecutive win.

Anaheim (16-3-3) played Phoenix three times in five days, suffering back-to-back 5-4 shootout losses on the road before Jonas Hiller stopped 18 shots in a 2-0 home win Wednesday.

"We were mad that we gave up four goals the last two games and we know solid defense is going to win you more than just games," coach Bruce Boudreau told the Ducks' official website. "It's going to win division titles and championships."

Anaheim, 3-0-2 in its last five, is second in the NHL with 35 points but 10 behind red-hot Chicago.

"(The Blackhawks are) playing great and doing things the right way, but at the same time, we just worry about ourselves and keep pushing forward," said forward Ryan Getzlaf, who had an empty net goal and an assist Wednesday to raise his team-leading point total to 27.

This will be the first game for Getzlaf since he signed an eight-year, $66 million contract. The Anaheim captain would have been an unrestricted free agent this summer.

"This is a wonderful day for my family, as Anaheim has become our home," Getzlaf said. "The fans here have treated me very well, and I look forward to being part of a winning hockey team ... for years to come."

The Ducks are focused on trying to extend their longest home winning streak since an 11-game run in 2009-10. Anaheim has outscored opponents 32-16 in winning nine in a row since a 5-0 home-opening loss to Vancouver.

It's won 14 straight regular season and postseason games at home versus Calgary (9-8-4) since the 2006 playoffs. The last eight such meetings have been decided by one goal, including two in overtime and three in a shootout.

With five goals and nine assists during an eight-game home point streak, Getzlaf has five goals and 11 assists while recording a point in 10 straight against the Flames at home. He scored twice Jan. 21 to help Anaheim hold on for a 5-4 win over Calgary despite blowing an early 3-0 lead.

Overshadowed by rookie Viktor Fasth's 9-1-1 record and 2.08 goals-against average, Hiller has won five straight at home and is 4-0-1 with a 2.14 GAA since missing time with a lower-body injury. He is 4-0-0 with a 2.40 GAA at home against the Flames.

Calgary is in the midst of a 4-1-1 stretch but both defeats came on the road, where it's dropped a season-high three in row. The Flames have won two straight going into a three-game California trip that includes back-to-back contests at Los Angeles.

Miikka Kiprusoff made 32 saves in his first action since missing a month with a sprained MCL as Calgary beat San Jose 4-1 on Wednesday. Jarome Iginla had a goal and an assist for the Flames.

"I felt that (Kiprusoff) was solid right from the get-go," coach Bob Hartley said. "He was seeing all the pucks and that's such a good feeling for guys on the bench, for coaches, and probably for fans."

Hartley plans to start Kiprusoff, who has a 3.27 GAA during a nine-game regular season and playoff road skid against the Ducks.

Iginla has scored six of his seven goals in five games, including four in the last three. He has a point in six straight at Anaheim, and seven goals and 10 assists in his last 13 overall in the series.
