KEY GAME INFORMATION
INDIANAPOLIS: QB Andrew Luck has the tools to be an MVP, but still holds on to the ball too long and doesn't have a great supporting cast. WR T.Y. Hilton has become a more complete player and is a lethal deep threat, while WRs Donte Moncrief and Phillip Dorsett have work to do. 34-year-old RB Frank Gore is almost running on empty, but Indy is devoid of better options in the backfield. The young offensive line needs to take a step forward this year. New general manager Chris Ballard went on a front-seven shopping spree in free agency, loading up on underachieving and underused talent (e.g. OLBs Jabaal Sheard, Barkevious Mingo and John Simon). Last year's 30th-ranked defense also added former Giants run-stuffer DT Johnathan Hankins. Indy drafted DBs in the first two rounds, playmaking S Malik Hooker and physical CB Quincy Wilson, who are tabbed for starting roles.
PITTSBURGH: QB Ben Roethlisberger gets the ball out quickly most of the time, with plenty of downfield bombs worked in. WR Antonio Brown is unguardable, and WR Martavis Bryant looked almost as good before his season-long suspension in 2016. RB Le'Veon Bell is a good enough pass-catcher to play WR, and his unique, patient, explosive running style behind a crushing O-line made the running game the focus of the Steelers' offense late last season. The Steelers' front-seven isn't as imposing as it to be, as 38-year-old LB James Harrison led the team with just five sacks a season ago. OLB Bud Dupree has shown signs of becoming the next great Pittsburgh pass-rusher, while ILB Ryan Shazier is an athletic freak with room to grow. S Sean Davis and CB Artie Burns, Pittsburgh's first two draft picks in 2016, are ticketed for larger roles after developing well as rookies.
