KEY GAME INFORMATION
SAN FRANCISCO: The 49ers have a big, man-blocking offensive line and frequently use either a fullback or a second tight end. The backfield is a committee, but there are plenty of touches to go around. Frank Gore is still the leader, getting a feature back workload for all intents and purposes, and Kendall Hunter will spell him in their more traditional looks. They'll also run a ton of zone read stuff for Colin Kaepernick, and will use second-year man LaMichael James in those packages more frequently. Converted defensive end Bruce Miller is strictly a blocker at fullback. Marcus Lattimore will likely have a redshirt year. It's a lot of play-action, pistol formations and a lot of moving around for Kaepernick. His No. 1 target Michael Crabtree will be sidelined until at least December, and is more of a possession receiver, while TE Vernon Davis is going to stretch the field more often than either starting receiver. The Niners don't use a lot of three- and four-receiver looks, but they could rotate A.J. Jenkins into the game more often to provide more long speed on the outside. Mario Manningham is a question mark for the start of the season coming off torn knee ligaments. Gore takes about half their touches inside the 10 and will maintain goal line duties. They will let Kaepernick do his thing near the goal line. The 49ers defense was truly elite last year (17.1 PPG allowed, 2nd in NFL; 294 total YPG allowed, 3rd in NFL). It might be even better in 2013 after adding CB Nnamdi Asomugha, rookie FS Eric Reid and DT Glenn Dorsey. DEs Aldon Smith (19.5 sacks) and Justin Smith are both healthy, and ILBs NaVorro Bowman (148 tackles) and Patrick Willis (120 tackles) comprise the best linebacker duo in the NFL. CB Tarell Brown (13 PD) is an underrated corner and SS Donte Whitner provides quite a wallop when making a tackle.
JACKSONVILLE: The Jaguars will continue to utilize a zone-blocking scheme for their running game, which will be the bulk of what this offense does as they still search for any semblance of a passing threat. Maurice Jones-Drew will once again be asked to carry a heavy workload as long as he's healthy, primarily because they have so few options behind him. But new offensive coordinator Jedd Fisch is expected to give more two-back looks, with Montell Owens doing some lead blocking and also lining up in some single-back sets. The wild card could be Denard Robinson, who will push Justin Forsett for change-of-pace duties. They don't have a lot of options with this passing game, due simply to a lack of talent. Most likely they'll try to spread the field and get some quick catch-and-run opportunities as Fisch comes from a West Coast background. He'll put Blaine Gabbert on the move a little more, which should help the young QB, who's gun shy in the face of the rush. Cecil Shorts figures to get a boost in Fisch's offense, at least while Justin Blackmon serves his four-game suspension to start the season. Marcedes Lewis should be a more prominent part of the offense. The Jaguars were forced to throw in the red zone much more often after Jones-Drew got hurt last year, but their first choice is to force-feed Jones-Drew. New defensive coordinator Bob Babich, the former Bears DC and LB coach, inherits a defense that logged the second-most minutes on the field because of a horrible offense. But the Jags recorded five fewer sacks than any other NFL team and failed to score a defensive touchdown for the third time in four seasons. This year's unit will look much different with at least four new starters signed via free agency -- DTs Roy Miller and Kyle Love, LB Geno Hayes and CB Alan Ball. MLB Paul Posluszny is still a tackling machine.

*49ers-Jaguars Preview* =======================

By ALAN FERGUSON STATS Writer

The high-powered San Francisco 49ers are heading to London looking to extend a growing win streak. Their opponent has a much more modest goal.

The Jacksonville Jaguars are hoping a change of continents will help them avoid dropping to 0-8, as they'll look to deny the 49ers a fifth straight victory Sunday at Wembley Stadium.

San Francisco (5-2) has topped 30 points in each of its four consecutive wins and wasn't seriously threatened after jumping out to a 24-0 third-quarter lead at Tennessee in a 31-17 victory last Sunday.

"We have strung together a few wins, and we feel pretty good about what we're doing right now," quarterback Colin Kaepernick said.

Kaepernick and Frank Gore combined for 138 yards and three touchdowns on the ground against the Titans. San Francisco, third in the league with 143.3 rushing yards per game, will now try to keep rolling against one of the league's worst defenses.

The Jaguars rank last in the NFL with 31.7 points and 153.3 rushing yards allowed per game. No other team is giving up more than 128.0 yards a game on the ground.

Jacksonville is also 28th in total yards allowed at 391.4, and let an opponent top 400 for the fourth time in five games in last Sunday's 24-6 loss to San Diego.

"This team has a lot of work to do and a lot to prove," Kaepernick said of the 49ers. "Going into this Sunday, I don't think it doesn't matter what team we're playing. We're going to be motivated.

"I think they're a good defense. They haven't quite put everything together."

This will be the first of the Jaguars' four "home" games at Wembley over the next four seasons. Jacksonville owner Shahid Khan also owns English Premier League soccer club Fulham, which is based in London.

The Jaguars have never played outside of the United States, while San Francisco is making its second trip to London in four seasons and experiencing its third regular-season game out of the country. The 49ers beat Denver 24-16 at Wembley on Oct. 31, 2010, and lost 31-14 to Arizona in Mexico City on Oct. 2, 2005.

"We have done it before," left tackle Joe Staley said. "Everybody here is used to the long trips, and I think it is beneficial. Everybody gets to spend a lot of time together as a team. We are just all excited to get over, and we basically just pack more clothes than usual."

The 49ers are riding their longest win streak since an eight-game run Sept. 25-Nov. 20, 2011.

In contrast, the Jaguars are off to the worst start in team history and coach Gus Bradley was critical of last week's effort.

"We acted like a young team," he said. "I just think that we didn't respond the right way to the challenge. The three most dangerous words in the NFL are 'I've got it,' and I think that we felt like 'We're making strides. We've got this. We've just got to go out there and do this,' and that's not how it works.

"If we had that mentality, then we got punched right in the mouth."

Bradley joined the team for practice in London on Wednesday after the death of his father, Roy, on Sunday.

"He's our leader; he's our Energizer Bunny," wide receiver Justin Blackmon said. "It'll be good to have him back."

Bradley said quarterback Chad Henne would start for a third straight game. Henne has topped 300 yards in his two games since taking over for the injured Blaine Gabbert and had a season-high 318 on Sunday.

"We feel good about what Chad has done the last few weeks," the Jaguars coach told the team's website. "We want to continue to build on that and see where it takes us."

The 49ers are facing Jacksonville for the first time since a 20-3 win Nov. 29, 2009, their only victory in three all-time matchups.
