Grizzlies look to follow up franchise record as they face Wizards

The Memphis Grizzlies aim to build off a franchise record-setting performance when they visit the Washington Wizards on Tuesday.

The Grizzlies handed the reeling Rockets their 11th straight loss on Sunday, courtesy of a 133-84 shellacking in Houston.

Memphis' 49-point margin of victory and 85 points off the bench served as franchise records. The Grizzlies also tied a season-high point total, initially set in a lopsided victory over the San Antonio Spurs on Feb. 1.

Justise Winslow made 8 of 12 shots from the floor to finish with a game-high 20 points for Memphis.

"I think every day, Justise is feeling more comfortable," Grizzlies coach Taylor Jenkins said of Winslow, who was playing in his fourth game since returning from a hip injury that sidelined him for over a year.

"He's making strides every day. He's healthy, playing hard and putting in the work. I give him a lot of credit for the journey he's had to undertake to get back on the floor."

Winslow, who was acquired from the Miami Heat in a trade 13 months ago, said he appreciated the patience shown by the organization while he worked himself back from the injury.

"This trade was one of the best things to happen in my life on and off the court for me, this organization with being so patient with me," Winslow said in a postgame courtside interview. "I'm just so thankful. A lot of gratitude and a lot of joy in my heart right now."

Memphis willingly spread the joy on Sunday, as seven different players recorded double-digit scoring performances. Brandon Clarke collected his second double-double of the season (16 points, 12 rebounds) and Desmond Bane added 15 points and seven boards.

Ja Morant, who averages team-best totals in points (18.4) and assists (7.7), was held to just six points following a 2-for-8 performance from the floor. Morant, however, erupted for 27 points, 10 assists and 10 rebounds to register his first career triple-double in the Grizzlies' 106-99 victory over the Wizards on Feb. 9, 2020.

Washington's Bradley Beal, who scored 26 points in that game, padded his NBA leading average to 33.2 by erupting for 46 in Sunday's 111-110 setback at the Boston Celtics.

Beal, however, was in no mood to celebrate his personal performance after seeing his team fail to hold a late lead.

"We were in control. We were up five with (46.9) seconds left. We have to close that out," Beal said. "We have to win that game. We did everything we needed to do to put ourselves in position. We have to win.

"We're 7-2 in our last nine, that's great. We should be 8-1."

Beal reached the 40-point plateau for the fourth time this season. He made 16 of 29 attempts, marking his career-best sixth consecutive performance in which he has shot at least 50 percent from the field.

Russell Westbrook collected 24 points and 11 rebounds on Sunday to extend his streak of consecutive double-doubles to 10. The former NBA MVP averages team-best totals in rebounds (9.9) and assists (9.6) while also averaging 19.9 points for the Wizards, who begin a pivotal stretch of playing seven of their next eight games at home.
