KEY GAME INFORMATION
MIAMI: GUARDS: The regular season goal for DWYANE WADE is to just stay healthy. Even following knee surgery, he's still good enough to pile up numbers, but the minutes won't be there in the regular season . . . That's why the Heat brought in RAY ALLEN. He and Wade will share the floor at times, but Allen should primarily play off the bench. His role will be to knock down the wide-open threes Wade and LeBron James create . . . After all the big plays he made in the postseason, MARIO CHALMERS is entrenched as the starting point guard, despite being plagued by a bad hammy in the preseason . . . Super-quick NORRIS COLE looks like he'll become one of the NBA's better backup point guards . . . If he doesn't retire, the absurdly brittle MIKE MILLER will see limited regular-season minutes . . . TERREL HARRIS will likely make the team because he's willing to play defense. FORWARDS: While another title is their No. 1 priority, LeBRON JAMES has shown no need to rest during the regular season. He'll play full-time minutes and be in the thick of the MVP race . . . CHRIS BOSH remains integral to the offense with his ability to pull opposing bigs away from the basket. His stats don't reflect his actual value . . . SHANE BATTIER will continue to be a defensive specialist whose offensive role is limited to shooting open threes . . . UDONIS HASLEM is another guy who will get held back in the regular season. He should lead their low-post rotation . . . RASHARD LEWIS' knee problems have robbed him of athleticism . . . But Lewis should beat out fellow shooter JAMES JONES for a rotation spot . . . JARVIS VARNADO is a shot-blocking force with little to no offensive game. CENTERS: JOEL ANTHONY will continue to tag-team with Haslem in the middle. Anthony is an absolute negative on the offensive end, but he brings more size and shot-blocking than Haslem . . . DEXTER PITTMAN will be battling for a roster spot. Sexy Dexy has shown no signs of being an NBA-caliber player so far in his career . . . MICKELL GLADNESS is a better alternative than Pittman on both ends of the floor.
WASHINGTON: GUARDS: JOHN WALL hasn't developed much diversity in his offensive game, but he's still really fast and an effective distributor. The improved supporting cast should help him reach the next level, assuming he feels no ill effects from the stress injury in his left knee that will keep him out until late November . . . BRADLEY BEAL is a great shooter, but he can also score off the dribble. Throw in his rebounding ability from the backcourt, and he should contribute in a number of ways as a rookie . . . JORDAN CRAWFORD is a pure scorer, but not an efficient one. He won't be able to hold off Beal for long, if at all . . . A.J. PRICE steps in as Wall's top backup. He'll play limited minutes with the second unit . . . SHELVIN MACK will be battling for a roster spot, most likely with underachieving swingman MARTELL WEBSTER. FORWARDS: TREVOR ARIZA should have no trouble stepping into the starting lineup. He'll at least have a chance to re-find his three-point shot getting drive-and-dish feeds from Wall . . . Nene^ will slide to the four with Emeka Okafor coming in. That means athletic, but raw, JAN VESELY will have to play with the second unit. He can really run the floor, but doesn't help much in the half-court game . . . TREVOR BOOKER is a very good screener on offense who holds his own defensively and on the boards. He still has a chance for a handful of starts if Nene^ or Okafor get hurt . . . CHRIS SINGLETON started a lot of games last year, but the defensive specialist will likely spend this season learning behind Ariza . . . CARTIER MARTIN never saw a shot he didn't like. CENTERS: NENE^ had some trouble with plantar fasciitis last year and playing in the Olympics didn't help. If healthy, he has a chance to be Washington's leading scorer . . . EMEKA OKAFOR will start alongside Nene^. He's the fifth-best option on offense, but holds his own defensively . . . KEVIN SERAPHIN has proven he can hold down a starting job. He'll come off the bench but should still have a significant role.

*Heat-Wizards Preview* ======================

By ALAN FERGUSON STATS Writer

Miami (60-16) at Washington (29-48), 7:00 p.m. EDT

The Miami Heat are on the verge of clinching home-court advantage throughout the playoffs, but it's unclear who will be on the court for their first attempt.

With their lineup likely changing from game to game until the end of the regular season, the Heat will also try to set the franchise's single-season victories record and snap the Washington Wizards' lengthy home win streak Wednesday night.

Miami (61-16) needs only one more win or a Spurs loss to guarantee a home-court edge, but it's dealing with absences from its star players. Dwyane Wade missed his fifth straight game Tuesday with a sprained ankle and a bruised knee, and Chris Bosh was out with an illness after sitting in Saturday's win over Philadelphia because of a sore knee.

The Heat, though, got LeBron James back after a three-game absence due to a strained right hamstring and he scored 28 points in a 94-83 win over Milwaukee on Tuesday.

Miami matched the 1996-97 club's record for victories in a season.

"We've done so many great things this year by just playing the game at a high level, playing for one another," James said. "Along the way, when those accolades come as far as team wins, the streak that we had, we really enjoy it."

Before that game, James said he likely won't play in all of the five remaining contests in the regular season.

"I mean, I want to play, but I'm going to go against myself for the first time in my career. No, probably about the third time in my career," he said. "I sat out a few games when we had it all locked up in Cleveland (in 2009-10) as well, to just try to use those games to get healthy."

Wade's status is also unknown for Wednesday's visit to Washington, though he will travel with the team after participating in Tuesday morning's shootaround. Bosh is not expected to make the trip to the nation's capital.

"With the minor injuries that we have with our team, everything has to be day-to-day," coach Erik Spoelstra said.

If the Wizards face a short-handed Miami squad, they'll try to use it to their advantage and match their 10-game home win streak from Dec. 13, 2006-Jan. 20, 2007. Washington (29-49) has won the past two games against the Heat at the Verizon Center, with the latest a 105-101 victory Dec. 4.

John Wall was out for that game and two subsequent losses in the series, and the Wizards are 24-21 since his return from a knee injury. He's averaged 25.2 points on 59.6 percent shooting during Washington's home winning streak.

The point guard's 33 points Tuesday were hardly enough to help the Wizards in the finale of a two-game trip as they were blown out 120-99 by New York.

Miami has done a fine job containing Wall in his last four matchups in the series, holding him to just 9.3 points per game. Wall, though, has averaged 10.0 assists.
