| | | CHARLOTTE: GUARDS: RAMON SESSIONS will have to adjust to a major downgrade in teammates, but he has the kind of versatile offensive skill set to be the focal point of this offense . . . The athletic GERALD HENDERSON has made strides the past two seasons. Realistically, his offensive skills are those of a No. 4 or 5 option . . . Coach Mike Dunlap is high on KEMBA WALKER, who was sometimes overwhelmed as a rookie. With a few new sets built in for him, he could thrive as a sixth man getting starter's minutes . . . BEN GORDON won't overtake Henderson, but should see big minutes as the Cats' only shooter . . . REGGIE WILLIAMS is a D-League talent . . . MATT CARROLL, in the final year of his $27 million deal, symbolizes everything that's gone wrong under Michael Jordan. FORWARDS: Drafting MICHAEL KIDD-GILCHRIST was as much about changing the losing culture as it was adding a piece they needed. MKG's statistical output is a question mark, but he'll see big minutes as a defensive stopper and intangibles guy . . . This team is seriously lacking in the post, where they may have no choice but to play TYRUS THOMAS for significant minutes. The talented but uber-underachieving big man claims to have added 20 pounds of muscle in the offseason. If nothing else, they might showcase him in a desperate attempt to get some trade value . . . Rookie JEFFERY TAYLOR figures to make the team and has the versatility and athleticism to be a respectable second-unit guy. CENTERS: Charlotte sees BISMACK BIYOMBO as a franchise cornerstone. He can certainly rebound and block shots, but his offense is atrocious . . . BRENDAN HAYWOOD brings a veteran presence. At his age he can't go more than 15 or so minutes per night . . . BYRON MULLENS never saw a shot he didn't like. He'll get one more chance to prove he's an NBA rotation player, able to play the four or five . . . DeSAGANA DIOP is doing those things that DeSagana Diop does. | | WASHINGTON: GUARDS: JOHN WALL hasn't developed much diversity in his offensive game, but he's still really fast and an effective distributor. The improved supporting cast should help him reach the next level, assuming he feels no ill effects from the stress injury in his left knee that will keep him out until late November . . . BRADLEY BEAL is a great shooter, but he can also score off the dribble. Throw in his rebounding ability from the backcourt, and he should contribute in a number of ways as a rookie . . . JORDAN CRAWFORD is a pure scorer, but not an efficient one. He won't be able to hold off Beal for long, if at all . . . A.J. PRICE steps in as Wall's top backup. He'll play limited minutes with the second unit . . . SHELVIN MACK will be battling for a roster spot, most likely with underachieving swingman MARTELL WEBSTER. FORWARDS: TREVOR ARIZA should have no trouble stepping into the starting lineup. He'll at least have a chance to re-find his three-point shot getting drive-and-dish feeds from Wall . . . Nene^ will slide to the four with Emeka Okafor coming in. That means athletic, but raw, JAN VESELY will have to play with the second unit. He can really run the floor, but doesn't help much in the half-court game . . . TREVOR BOOKER is a very good screener on offense who holds his own defensively and on the boards. He still has a chance for a handful of starts if Nene^ or Okafor get hurt . . . CHRIS SINGLETON started a lot of games last year, but the defensive specialist will likely spend this season learning behind Ariza . . . CARTIER MARTIN never saw a shot he didn't like. CENTERS: NENE^ had some trouble with plantar fasciitis last year and playing in the Olympics didn't help. If healthy, he has a chance to be Washington's leading scorer . . . EMEKA OKAFOR will start alongside Nene^. He's the fifth-best option on offense, but holds his own defensively . . . KEVIN SERAPHIN has proven he can hold down a starting job. He'll come off the bench but should still have a significant role. |

*Bobcats-Wizards Preview* =========================
By TAYLOR BECHTOLD STATS Writer
Charlotte (6-4) at Washington (0-10), 7:00 p.m. EDT
The Charlotte Bobcats appear much improved on the heels of their historically woeful season.
The Washington Wizards, meanwhile, are currently stuck in their own forgettable futility.
Two teams headed in different directions meet Saturday night when the host Wizards look to end their worst start in franchise history against the surprising Bobcats.
Charlotte knows a little something about epic struggles, having finished with the worst winning percentage in NBA history after going 7-59 last season.
That seems long ago these days, with the Bobcats (6-5) matching their best start in their nine-year history. They have a chance to equal their entire win total from last season with a victory over Washington (0-10).
The Bobcats had won five of six before Friday night's 101-91 loss to visiting Atlanta.
Ramon Sessions, who gives Charlotte some energy off the bench, led the way with 22 points. Kemba Walker, the team's leading scorer, added 16 and nine assists.
After failing to reach double figures in his first eight games, rookie Jeffery Taylor did it for the third straight game with a season-high 16.
"For me, the coach is telling me to be aggressive on offense and I'm trying to learn and pick my spots and play off the other guys," Taylor said.
Charlotte, however, shot just 37.3 percent from the field and allowed the Hawks to make 53.8 percent, including 11 of 22 from 3-point range.
The Bobcats surrendered 100 points to an opponent for the first time in six games and failed to make more use of Atlanta's 22 turnovers, scoring 19 points.
"We didn't take enough advantage of those," coach Mike Dunlap said.
Washington also missed its chance to finally steal a win on Wednesday night when Martell Webster appeared to score on a putback as the buzzer sounded against Atlanta. The officials, though, ruled the basket came too late, and the Wizards were saddled with a 101-100 defeat.
"We thought we had won," Webster said.
Washington is the 13th team in NBA history to open a season with 10 straight losses, but still has a way to go to match the 2009-10 New Jersey Nets for the worst start in NBA history at 0-18.
The Wizards are having a tough time finding their way without point guard John Wall, who remains out indefinitely after injuring his left knee in September. They rank near the bottom of the NBA in scoring (88.2) and field goal percentage (40.0 percent).
Washington, though, did get a boost with Nene's return on Wednesday. The center, who missed the first nine games with a left foot injury, came off the bench to score 12 points.
Kevin Seraphin made the most of his first start of the season, finishing with 21 points and 10 rebounds. Trevor Ariza had 12 points and 15 rebounds to help the Wizards gain a 58-37 advantage on the boards.
Washington had been outrebounded in each of its previous seven contests.
"It is hard right now," Nene told the team's official website. "The game (against the Hawks) proved we can do it. We just need to stick together."
The Wizards had won five straight against the Bobcats before losing 92-76 in Charlotte on Nov. 13. Sessions led four Bobcats in double figures with 21 points.
Charlotte held Washington to just 29.8-percent shooting, and Ariza was the only Wizard to finish in double figures with 19 points.
