KEY GAME INFORMATION
HOUSTON: GUARDS: Houston has gutted its roster, and this is JEREMY LIN's team now. Coach Kevin McHale will use the same pick-and-roll offense he used with Goran Dragic, and Lin should do what he did in New York a year ago . . . KEVIN MARTIN is on the trade block. As long as he's in Houston, he'll be in and out of McHale's doghouse, especially seeing that he's not in the long-term plans . . . JEREMY LAMB should push Martin for minutes early. Lamb will have some defensive issues, but he's a cagey scorer who should mesh well with Lin . . . CARLOS DELFINO replaces Chase Budinger as the team's most reliable marksman from three-point range . . . TONEY DOUGLAS' defensive ability puts him in the running for a rotation spot . . . SHAUN LIVINGSTON can give them 12 to 15 minutes a night . . . Rookie SCOTT MACHADO, an outstanding passer, will back up Lin . . . GARY FORBES will have trouble finding minutes. FORWARDS: CHANDLER PARSONS was a nice surprise a year ago. He's a fifth option offensively but does the hustle/energy thing well . . . 2011 first-rounder DONATAS MOTIEJUNAS is a skilled 7-footer who fits with Lin. Expect him to grab a starting job by midseason, but he can also play center when required . . . This might be the year PATRICK PATTERSON makes an impact. His game is limited, but he can rebound and score around the basket . . . ROYCE WHITE is a 270-pounder with point guard skills. He needs the ball in his hands though, which is why he's not a great fit with Lin in the starting lineup . . . TERRENCE JONES has a tweener skill set. At this point, he's better suited for the second unit . . . Speaking of 'tweeners, MARCUS MORRIS looks to be nowhere near contributing. CENTERS: OMER ASIK earned his reputation as a defensive stud in Chicago, and he'll get a little more offensive freedom in Houston. He is quite foul-prone though, and he'll be tested on the free-throw line early and often . . . His backup, GREG SMITH, has more fouls (17) than points (14) in his 69-minute NBA career.
SACRAMENTO: GUARDS: MARCUS THORNTON is the only one guaranteed a consistent role on the perimeter . . . ISAIAH THOMAS was the story of the second half for the Kings. He can fill up the box score, but at 5-foot-9 (at best) he's too much of a defensive liability and not a point guard . . . AARON BROOKS is the most talented guard on this team. He's had attitude problems in the past, but he could, and should, lead this team . . . Now that he remained in Sacto, TYREKE EVANS will be playing off the ball at the three against his wishes . . . The Kings will keep on trying to unload JOHN SALMONS, who's not a useful NBA player . . . JIMMER FREDETTE should have a role off the bench, but his ball-handling is not where it has to be for an NBA point guard . . . FRANCISCO GARCIA's chance seems to have passed him by. FORWARDS: THOMAS ROBINSON should emerge as a starter early in his rookie year. He has his flaws on both ends of the floor, but he brings energy and doesn't need a lot of touches to get his points . . . Even if Robinson knocks him to the bench, JASON THOMPSON should play the five at times and see close to starter's minutes . . . JAMES JOHNSON should also play big minutes soon considering his ability to make positive contributions without a lot of touches . . . CHUCK HAYES should continue to play second-unit minutes as a glue guy . . . TRAVIS OUTLAW has regressed to the point that he's lucky to have a roster spot . . . TYLER HONEYCUTT has an intriguing skill set as a defensive-minded point forward, but he's likely ticketed for the D-League again. CENTERS: DeMARCUS COUSINS came on strong late last season. There's no doubt he has All-Star potential, but between his awful shot selection and occasional attitude problems, he just hasn't lived up to his potential. After Team USA passed on him this summer because of reported maturity problems, he might still not get it.

*Rockets-Kings Preview* =======================

By JEFF BARTL STATS Writer

Houston (28-24) at Sacramento (18-33), 9:00 p.m. EDT

James Harden's teammates are getting used to his high-scoring efforts, and they'll gladly take the victories that come along with them.

Though he hasn't put up big numbers in his career against the Sacramento Kings, he's never faced them wearing a Houston Rockets uniform.

Houston looks to earn a seventh victory in its last nine tries by winning a fifth straight game in Sacramento on Sunday night.

Harden, who will play in his first All-Star Game when Houston hosts the festivities next weekend, ranks fifth in the NBA with 26.0 points per game. He scored 36 in a loss to Miami on Wednesday before netting 35 while adding 11 assists in Friday's 118-103 win over Portland.

"(Friday) was one of those (games) where it's just like he makes play after play after play," Jeremy Lin said of Harden, who hit 13 of 16 from the field. "Then you look up and you realize, 'Oh, he had a great game.' You kind of take it for granted sometimes."

The Rockets (28-23) are 12-3 when Harden scores at least 30 points.

"I'm just focused on rallying these guys together, every single game," Harden said. "If I'm leading and showing my work ethic, they'll follow."

Houston has won six of eight, with Harden shooting 56.3 percent in that stretch. He's also averaging 9.0 assists over the last four.

"He's making shots and he's making plays," coach Kevin McHale said after Friday's win. "You look at a guy with 35 points, 11 assists, seven rebounds and (he) threw a steal in there. It was really impressive."

Harden, though, wasn't nearly as good against Sacramento during his tenure with Oklahoma City. In 10 games off the bench, Harden shot 43.2 percent and averaged 11.4 points - his worst average against any team.

He'll look to improve on those numbers against a Kings team coming off a 120-109 home win over Utah on Saturday that ended a four-game losing streak.

Isaiah Thomas scored a game-high 25 points, Marcus Thornton finished with 24 and Jason Thompson added 21 for Sacramento (18-33), which had lost eight of its previous nine contests.

The last six of those were on the road, meaning Saturday's was the first home game since the team formally filed for permission to relocate to Seattle.

"I think (the fans) got us the win," Thomas said. "They brought us energy and you guys saw it from the jump. We were energized and we looked like a totally different team, especially on the offensive end. We were sharing the ball, we were smiling, everything. It was a good thing."

DeMarcus Cousins had 13 points and 11 rebounds, marking only his second double-double in his last eight games - a stretch in which he's averaged 12.8 points and 7.3 boards. He averaged 21.7 points and 13.3 rebounds while posting a double-double in each of his previous six.

The Kings have lost four straight home matchups with the Rockets, falling 104-87 in the most recent meeting April 8. Houston, though, has dropped eight of its last 11 on the road while averaging 98.8 points.

The Rockets have averaged 114.9 points in their last nine home games.

Sacramento likely will have to concern itself with more than simply trying to stop Harden in this contest. Chandler Parsons is shooting 59.5 percent in his last seven games and Omer Asik ranks third in the league with 11.5 rebounds per game - including 15.7 over his last seven.

"We can hurt you in so many different ways," Parsons said.
