| |  | PHILADELPHIA: GUARDS: JRUE HOLIDAY is knocking on the door of All-Star status. He's excellent defensively, though his stats sometimes sag because of Philly's deliberate style . . . JASON RICHARDSON gives them some shooting on the wing, but may see his minutes fade if he can't play the kind of defense Collins demands . . . Swingman EVAN TURNER is an intriguing but flawed player. He doesn't quite have the offensive repertoire to be a primary scorer, and he'll continue to get inconsistent minutes as Collins plays to matchups on the wings . . . NICK YOUNG will have something of a lesser sixth-man role than Lou Williams used to have . . . As an offensively-limited but athletic, defensive-minded guard, ROYAL IVEY is the kind of bench player Collins looks for. FORWARDS: Even with Elton Brand gone, THADDEUS YOUNG will play more of a part-time role. Collins has never seemed satisfied with his talented young 'tweener, and Spencer Hawes is expected to slide to the four alongside Andrew Bynum . . . DORELL WRIGHT brings some much needed shooting on the wing. He plays the kind of defense Collins demands and, if his shot is on, he should be close to a 30-MPG player despite his struggles in Golden State last season . . . LAVOY ALLEN is a serviceable reserve big. He'll see few minutes off the bench unless Bynum gets hurt . . . ARNETT MOULTRIE fits the Sixers mold as an athlete. He could be a regular in the rotation by midseason. CENTERS: Maybe ANDREW BYNUM will be happier moving back to the east coast. As long as his knees hold up, he's an All-Star lock . . . SPENCER HAWES will actually play a lot of four this year. He's an offensively-capable 7-footer who's also become a much better rebounder over the past couple seasons . . . KWAME BROWN will be sparingly used as a big body who can move on the defensive end. | | PORTLAND: GUARDS: Portland will turn point guard duties over to rookie DAMIAN LILLARD. The leap from Big Sky Conference to NBA will be a big one, but Lillard is an efficient scorer who can manage the offense . . . WESLEY MATTHEWS is more of a glue guy. He can't create his own offense, but he can heat up as a streaky catch-and-shoot guy . . . RONNIE PRICE should emerge as Lillard's top backup, a role he's filled at numerous stops . . . Second-rounder WILL BARTON could emerge as a rotation player. He's a versatile wing who must prove he can play off the ball . . . SASHA PAVLOVIC will play both the two and three, and can still stroke it from long distance . . . NOLAN SMITH, a misstep of the last regime, is a fringe roster player . . . ELLIOT WILLIAMS, a defensive-minded combo guard, tore his Achilles in mid-September and expects to miss the entire season. FORWARDS: LaMARCUS ALDRIDGE had a couple of health scares over the past six months, but he should enter the season 100 percent. He's clearly Portland's best player . . . NICOLAS BATUM felt rightly disrespected by his secondary role in Portland. All signs point to a bigger role in 2012-13 . . . VICTOR CLAVER is an athletic scrapper who won't do much offensively even if he does get big minutes . . . JOEL FREELAND could become their first big man off the bench . . . JARED JEFFRIES is still relevant as a defensive specialist . . . The highlight of LUKE BABBITT's career might be that mention on Onion:Sportsdome. CENTERS: J.J. HICKSON is a black hole on offense and a liability on defense, but he can score and rebound, which is good enough to be the starting center in Portland's weak frontcourt . . . MEYERS LEONARD might not be quite ready for 30-plus minutes, but he'll have to learn on the fly due to Portland's lack of veteran bigs. He has some long-term upside as a 7-footer with some nice athleticism and touch inside 10 feet. |

While they've struggled to win on the road, the Portland Trail Blazers have had few problems lately at home.
The Blazers will seek a seventh consecutive victory at the Rose Garden on Saturday night when they welcome the Philadelphia 76ers, who've lost 10 of 14 overall.
After winning six of its previous seven games, Portland (14-14) was hardly competitive in a 104-87 loss to the Los Angeles Lakers on Friday. The Blazers made only 3 of 19 attempts from 3-point range and shot 41.4 percent overall.
"They just outworked us from top to bottom and played harder than us," rookie guard Damian Lillard said. "And because of how aggressive they were, they made shots. They scored transition points, and they're not even a running team."
With 26 points, LaMarcus Aldridge was the only Portland player to score more than 11. He sat out the final 16 minutes of the loss after getting hit in the chest.
"I got hit on a soft spot on my chest. I came down and I couldn't really breathe," Aldridge said. "I'm a little sore and I'll probably be worse tomorrow, but I'll be OK."
Before starting a four-game road trip Tuesday, the Blazers will try to get back on track with their 10th win in 11 home games. Portland is also seeking its longest win streak at the Rose Garden since an eight-game run March 5-April 3, 2011, and it will get to face a team that had lost six in a row on the road before a 99-89 win over Memphis on Wednesday.
Philadelphia, though, couldn't build on that victory in its third stop on a season-high eight-game trip, falling 96-89 to Golden State on Friday. The 76ers (14-16) cut a 12-point deficit with 2:53 remaining to four with 24 seconds to go but couldn't get any closer.
"We just waited too long to come back," said forward Dorell Wright, who had eight points in his second straight start in place of the injured Jason Richardson after scoring 28 in Memphis.
Jrue Holiday had 21 points and 10 assists Friday and Thaddeus Young added 19 points and 10 rebounds. No other Philadelphia player, though, had more than 13 points in a 40.2 percent shooting performance.
The 76ers held the Blazers to 41.2 percent shooting in the most recent matchup between the teams on Dec. 26, 2011, at the Rose Garden. Portland, though, took 97 shots - 14 more than Philadelphia - in a 107-103 win.
Aldridge had a team-best 25 points in that victory and 18 in a 110-101 win over the 76ers on March 19, 2011, also in Portland. Wesley Matthews had 28 points in that game and is averaging 20.4 in five career matchups with Philadelphia - his most against any opponent - but he's missed the past three games with a strained left hip.
It's unclear if he'll be back as the Blazers attempt to win three straight in this series for the first time since Jan. 10, 2001-Feb. 25, 2002.
