| |  | ATLANTA: GUARDS: GM Danny Ferry has really talked up JEFF TEAGUE, who will be more of a traditional point guard with Joe Johnson gone . . . DEVIN HARRIS is going to play plenty of minutes, both alongside Teague and off the bench . . . LOU WILLIAMS is a sixth man. He lacks the mentality to run the point and the size to guard opposing twos. His role will be similar to what it was in Philly . . . KYLE KORVER and ANTHONY MORROW are pure shooters who do little else. They can play the three in a pinch, and the hot hand will get the minutes . . . Coach Larry Drew could call on DeSHAWN STEVENSON for the occasional defense-heavy lineup. More likely, he'll rack up the DNP-CDs . . . JOHN JENKINS might be the best shooter in the rookie class, but he'll be buried on the depth chart. FORWARDS: JOSH SMITH rescinded his trade demand, perhaps because he'll now be the focal point of the offense. He was more aggressive on both ends of the floor last year. As long as he resists the urge to float on the perimeter, he should emerge as an All-Star . . . Considering the makeup of this roster, Atlanta will utilize a lot of three-guard lineups. Korver and Morrow can stretch a defense from that third guard/small forward spot, with Stevenson stepping in as an agitator . . . After scoring double-figures six times in April, IVAN JOHNSON was re-signed to once again provide some muscle inside . . . Rookie MIKE SCOTT is polished after five years at Virginia, but doesn't have the athleticism to be an impact player . . . ANTHONY TOLLIVER is a defensive specialist with very little offense to contribute. CENTERS: AL HORFORD will get his wish to play more power forward this season, though he'll remain their primary option at center. He's healthy again and is one of the most consistent bigs in the NBA . . . ZAZA PACHULIA filled in admirably for Horford last year. But it's back to bench duty for the bruising big . . . JOHAN PETRO is French for "12th man." | | PHOENIX: GUARDS: With Steve Nash gone, GORAN DRAGIC takes over at the point. He was a monster as a starter in Houston late last year, and he's familiar with Phoenix's system from his time there as Nash's backup . . . SHANNON BROWN is one of the league's better sixth men and could end up seeing close to starter minutes this year. Once just a raw athlete, he's made major strides as a shooter and ball-handler . . . KENDALL MARSHALL was a bit of a product of an absurdly talented supporting cast in college at UNC. He's got work to do to become an NBA-caliber starter, but he'll be capable enough as a backup point guard as a rookie . . . SEBASTIAN TELFAIR still can't hit an open jump shot, but will factor into the backcourt rotation. FORWARDS: LUIS SCOLA steps in as the starting four. While he's in his 30's and an underwhelming athlete, he's crafty and relentless . . . JARED DUDLEY will continue to be their main catch-and-shoot threat on the wing. It might take a while to develop an on-court chemistry with Dragic . . . MICHAEL BEASLEY has a chance to grab a starting spot. He rarely has his head on straight, but he can score . . . CHANNING FRYE, the sharp-shooting 7-footer, will likely miss the 2012-13 season due to an enlarged heart, but this condition is expected to completely heal . . . WESLEY JOHNSON gets a fresh start. He needs to start knocking down shots to land a rotation spot . . . MARKIEFF MORRIS showed flashes as a rookie, but has to make better decisions on the offensive end. He'll be a key on the second unit . . . Well-traveled P.J. TUCKER earned himself a roster spot with an impressive Summer League. CENTERS: MARCIN GORTAT had a great year-and-a-half alongside Steve Nash, and he'll have to prove he can create in the low post a little more. But he's a skilled big man who should pair nicely with Luis Scola as a scorer and passer in the post . . . Injury-riddled JERMAINE O'NEAL is still a strong low-post defender and shot-blocker. |

Paced by center Al Horford, the Atlanta Hawks are in the midst of their most successful road stretch in more than two years.
Coming off a career-high scoring night, Horford looks to help the Hawks to a sixth consecutive road victory Friday night against a Phoenix Suns team that just knocked off the NBA's leading club.
Horford scored 16 of his 34 points in the fourth quarter and also had 15 rebounds and five blocked shots to lead Atlanta (33-23) to its fourth straight victory Wednesday, 102-91 at Utah. The Hawks are 3-0 on a six-game trip, and they've averaged 106.3 points on 48.7 percent shooting while winning six of seven overall - including all five road contests in that span.
Horford has averaged 25.4 points on 68.1 percent shooting and 12.4 boards over those seven games.
"I'm in a good rhythm," said Horford, an All-Star in 2010 and 2011. "Most importantly, we're winning and we're playing well as a team."
Healthy after a pectoral injury limited him to 14 regular-season and playoff games in 2011-12, Horford is averaging career highs of 17.1 points and 10.1 rebounds. His performance in the final period Wednesday helped stymie Utah's attempt at overcoming a 20-point second-half deficit.
"He was good," Hawks coach Larry Drew said. "We were running plays through him. When the shot wasn't there, he was passing the ball. He got everything within our offense. Guys were doing a good job of finding him.
"He's really playing at a high level now - an extremely high level."
Horford, who did not face Phoenix last season, has averaged 20.3 points and 9.3 rebounds in his last four games against the Suns.
Atlanta, which is riding its longest win streak away from home since a six-game run in January 2011, snapped a four-game skid in this series with a 101-99 win at Phoenix last year.
Josh Smith had 30 points, 17 rebounds, seven assists, four steals and three blocks in that victory. He's averaged 25.3 points and 9.5 boards in the last four at Phoenix and he has 47 points in the Hawks' last two contests overall.
Though the Suns (20-39) are tied for last place in the Western Conference, they'll try for a third consecutive victory after ending San Antonio's 18-game home winning streak with a 105-101 overtime win Wednesday.
Jermaine O'Neal had 22 points and 13 rebounds and Goran Dragic scored 13 with 13 assists as Phoenix overcame an 11-point fourth-quarter deficit to stun the team with the NBA's best record and win its second straight game in overtime.
"For us, we're obviously not in the playoff run, but it's about trying to be a better team," said the 34-year-old O'Neal, who posted his second straight double-double and fourth in seven contests. "Games like these are what build character and put us in the right direction. That's what we're trying to do."
Phoenix last won three in a row during its season-high four-game run Dec. 12-19.
Dragic is averaging 14.1 points, 6.9 assists, 1.5 steals and 3.9 free-throw attempts per game, joining LeBron James as the only players to lead their teams in all of those categories. The Suns point guard has posted five of his nine double-doubles this season in his last six games.
