KEY GAME INFORMATION
BOSTON: GUARDS: RAJON RONDO is the last man standing in Boston. Coming off a torn ACL and with a weakened supporting cast, it's going to be a long year . . . AVERY BRADLEY is the favorite to start alongside Rondo. He's still lost on offense, but his defense will be much needed . . . COURTNEY LEE continues to tease with flashes of talent, but hasn't shown consistency and is no longer 'young' . . . JORDAN CRAWFORD will hoist a lot of shots . . . MARSHON BROOKS fell out of favor in Brooklyn and is just hanging on to an NBA roster spot . . . KEITH BOGANS is in Boston because a new deal made the numbers work on the Nets trade . . . Local product PHIL PRESSEY, an undersized point guard, will try to stick as a back-up. FORWARDS: Suddenly, JEFF GREEN is Boston's first option on offense. He showed an ability to score with 20.1 PPG over 17 starts last season, but he'll be in for a whole new world of attention as the only legitimate scorer on this team . . . BRANDON BASS should continue to hold down the power forward spot, and he'll get to take more shots with the team rebuilding . . . Durability is a major issue for JARED SULLINGER, but he has a chance to play big minutes for a team in need of his offensive skill set . . . A washed-up vet with arguably the worst contract in the NBA, GERALD WALLACE is of little use to the Celtics (or any other team) . . . KRIS HUMPHRIES is also dead weight, but is a more enticing trade chip due to an expiring contract. CENTERS: Rookie KELLY OLYNYK is going to get pushed around, but he has some rare shooting and ball-handling skills for a 7-footer. Boston has little to lose by letting him learn on the job . . . VITOR FAVERANI is a tough-nosed Euro import who gives them insurance behind Olynyk.
PHILADELPHIA: GUARDS: Welcome to Tankadelphia. MICHAEL CARTER-WILLIAMS will be handed the reigns at the point, and has the size and savvy to create some offense. But a work-in-progress jumper and too many risky passes will lead to plenty of lost possessions . . . The Sixers would love to unload perennially disappointing ex-No. 2 pick EVAN TURNER. He's yet to develop a jump shot, and while he'll start for a laughably thin Philly team, he looks more and more like a second-unit player . . . JAMES ANDERSON could end up playing a lot of minutes off the bench, simply because the Sixers don't have enough NBA-caliber players . . . JASON RICHARDSON will miss at least half the season after major knee surgery. He may never contribute in the NBA again'TONY WROTEN could see the floor plenty as a high-upside player who must cut down on his turnovers and improve his jump shot. FORWARDS: THADDEUS YOUNG will likely step up as the No. 1 option, and he very well may be the only player on this team that would make a rotation of a playoff contender. We'll see what he can do with defenses focused on stopping him . . . LAVOY ALLEN will be leaned on for heavy minutes as one of their few proven players . . . ARNETT MOULTRIE might end up with a very big role this year, as the Sixers are especially lacking post players. He at least rebounds and gets in people's way defensively . . . Philly will try its hand with ROYCE WHITE, who has plenty of talent but just as much baggage. He and the Rockets couldn't see eye-to-eye with how to manage his anxiety issues . . . TIM OHLBRECHT might actually see the court on this team. CENTERS: SPENCER HAWES should start at center, especially early. His mid-range shooting makes him one of the few offensive options on this team . . . Coming off a torn ACL, NERLENS NOEL probably won't be ready until December. He should contribute as a rim protector and rebounder, but will be pushed around and doesn't have much on offense . . . KWAME BROWN is waiting for his contract to be bought out.

*Celtics-76ers Preview* =======================

By ALAN FERGUSON STATS Writer

Boston (25-55) at Philadelphia (17-63), 7:00 p.m. EDT

Although their season will end early for the first time in seven years, the Boston Celtics are showing they're not content to coast to the finish.

The Celtics will try to salvage some more pride by avoiding another defeat to the lowly Philadelphia 76ers on Monday night.

Boston (25-55) won't appear in the postseason for the first time since finishing 24-58 in 2006-07, but the Celtics haven't let that affect them in the past two games. One night after snapping a nine-game losing streak with a 106-103 win over playoff-bound Charlotte, they beat Cleveland 111-99 on Friday to halt a team record-tying, 13-game road skid.

Both wins came despite the absence of star point guard Rajon Rondo due to a bruised left shin. Boston was also missing Jared Sullinger (ankle), Jerryd Bayless (knee) and Kris Humphries (knee) on Saturday, but rookie Kelly Olynyk matched a career high with 25 points and set another with 12 rebounds in his first start since November.

Avery Bradley also scored 25 points and has surpassed 20 in all three games since returning from a strained Achilles.

"Wins like this mean a lot because it shows that we're going to continue to go out and play hard," Bradley said. "We feel like we still have something to play for."

The Celtics are looking to win three straight for the first time since Feb. 2-7.

They'll also try to send Philadelphia (17-63) to its 33rd loss in 35 games and fifth in a row. The 76ers have lost four straight since winning 111-102 in Boston on April 4, and they beat the Celtics 95-94 on Jan. 29 before tying a league record with 26 consecutive defeats.

During that skid, the 76ers lost 114-108 on Feb. 5 in their only home game against Boston. Their only victory in their last 21 home games was a 123-98 rout of Detroit on March 29 that snapped the 26-game slide.

Philadelphia has allowed all four opponents during its current skid to shoot at least 50.0 percent from the field, and is coming off a three-game trip in which it surrendered an average of 117.7 points.

Michael Carter-Williams led six 76ers in double figures with 23 points Saturday in a 111-105 defeat to Charlotte. Philadelphia's bench provided 40 points after scoring a season-high 52 in a 117-95 loss at Memphis on Friday and drew praise from coach Brett Brown.

"(They're) just doing whatever it takes to earn NBA minutes, to earn NBA respect, to find a way to contribute to a group," he said. "I'm proud of them."

However, it was starters Henry Sims and Carter-Williams who keyed the win over Boston earlier this month with 24 points apiece.

Jeff Green scored 36 in the victory at Philadelphia but totaled 33 points in the Celtics' two losses in the season series.

Boston is averaging 105.4 points in its last five games, 9.4 more than its season mark.
