| | | BOSTON: GUARDS: RAJON RONDO is the last man standing in Boston. Coming off a torn ACL and with a weakened supporting cast, it's going to be a long year . . . AVERY BRADLEY is the favorite to start alongside Rondo. He's still lost on offense, but his defense will be much needed . . . COURTNEY LEE continues to tease with flashes of talent, but hasn't shown consistency and is no longer 'young' . . . JORDAN CRAWFORD will hoist a lot of shots . . . MARSHON BROOKS fell out of favor in Brooklyn and is just hanging on to an NBA roster spot . . . KEITH BOGANS is in Boston because a new deal made the numbers work on the Nets trade . . . Local product PHIL PRESSEY, an undersized point guard, will try to stick as a back-up. FORWARDS: Suddenly, JEFF GREEN is Boston's first option on offense. He showed an ability to score with 20.1 PPG over 17 starts last season, but he'll be in for a whole new world of attention as the only legitimate scorer on this team . . . BRANDON BASS should continue to hold down the power forward spot, and he'll get to take more shots with the team rebuilding . . . Durability is a major issue for JARED SULLINGER, but he has a chance to play big minutes for a team in need of his offensive skill set . . . A washed-up vet with arguably the worst contract in the NBA, GERALD WALLACE is of little use to the Celtics (or any other team) . . . KRIS HUMPHRIES is also dead weight, but is a more enticing trade chip due to an expiring contract. CENTERS: Rookie KELLY OLYNYK is going to get pushed around, but he has some rare shooting and ball-handling skills for a 7-footer. Boston has little to lose by letting him learn on the job . . . VITOR FAVERANI is a tough-nosed Euro import who gives them insurance behind Olynyk. | | PHILADELPHIA: GUARDS: Welcome to Tankadelphia. MICHAEL CARTER-WILLIAMS will be handed the reigns at the point, and has the size and savvy to create some offense. But a work-in-progress jumper and too many risky passes will lead to plenty of lost possessions . . . The Sixers would love to unload perennially disappointing ex-No. 2 pick EVAN TURNER. He's yet to develop a jump shot, and while he'll start for a laughably thin Philly team, he looks more and more like a second-unit player . . . JAMES ANDERSON could end up playing a lot of minutes off the bench, simply because the Sixers don't have enough NBA-caliber players . . . JASON RICHARDSON will miss at least half the season after major knee surgery. He may never contribute in the NBA again'TONY WROTEN could see the floor plenty as a high-upside player who must cut down on his turnovers and improve his jump shot. FORWARDS: THADDEUS YOUNG will likely step up as the No. 1 option, and he very well may be the only player on this team that would make a rotation of a playoff contender. We'll see what he can do with defenses focused on stopping him . . . LAVOY ALLEN will be leaned on for heavy minutes as one of their few proven players . . . ARNETT MOULTRIE might end up with a very big role this year, as the Sixers are especially lacking post players. He at least rebounds and gets in people's way defensively . . . Philly will try its hand with ROYCE WHITE, who has plenty of talent but just as much baggage. He and the Rockets couldn't see eye-to-eye with how to manage his anxiety issues . . . TIM OHLBRECHT might actually see the court on this team. CENTERS: SPENCER HAWES should start at center, especially early. His mid-range shooting makes him one of the few offensive options on this team . . . Coming off a torn ACL, NERLENS NOEL probably won't be ready until December. He should contribute as a rim protector and rebounder, but will be pushed around and doesn't have much on offense . . . KWAME BROWN is waiting for his contract to be bought out. |

*Celtics-76ers Preview* =======================
By NOEY KUPCHAN STATS Writer
Boston (16-33) at Philadelphia (15-34), 7:00 p.m. EDT
The Boston Celtics pulled out a rare win over the weekend behind a vintage performance from Rajon Rondo.
They certainly could have used him in last week's last-second loss to the Philadelphia 76ers.
Boston tries to avenge that defeat when it visits the 76ers on Wednesday night.
The Celtics (16-33) had dropped four in a row and 19 of 22 before beating Orlando 96-89 on Sunday. The game was Rondo's best in seven contests since returning from a torn ACL as he scored 19 points, recorded six of his 10 assists in the fourth quarter, grabbed six rebounds and had three steals.
Jared Sullinger also came up big with 21 points and 12 rebounds, and Brandon Bass added 19 and nine. Avery Bradley scored 17 after missing two weeks with a sprained ankle.
"I think we execute a little crisper," coach Brad Stevens said of his team's ball movement since Rondo's return. "I think that obviously the ball's in one person's hands a little bit longer, but that's because he's your playmaker and leader.
"The ball seems to have found the right guys a lot, especially today, and I think that's more so guys getting used to playing with one another."
While Rondo shot 27.9 percent as the Celtics lost each of his first six games back, he went 9 of 11 from the field against the Magic. He is a career 47.9 percent shooter.
"That's one of those things that when you don't play for a year, that shot's probably a little bit rusty," Stevens said. "But now that he's seven games back, he's a very, very good shooter who has put in more time to be a good shooter; better than his statistics in the past would say. I feel really good about him pulling up and making those shots."
The Celtics surely missed Rondo in a 95-94 defeat to Philadelphia (15-34) last Wednesday. The four-time All-Star was held out after playing 27 minutes in a 114-88 loss at New York the previous night.
Sullinger had 24 points and 17 boards as the Celtics held a 59-40 edge on the glass, but the 76ers held Boston to 36.8 percent from the field and won on Evan Turner's fadeaway jumper as time expired.
Nothing has gone Philadelphia's way since that win, dropping its last three games by an average of 16.3 points. The 76ers shot 52.1 percent but matched a season high with 26 turnovers in Monday's 108-102 loss at Brooklyn.
Michael Carter-Williams had 21 points, but he and Spencer Hawes both committed six turnovers. Tony Wroten and Turner had four apiece.
"We just had a lot of unforced turnovers," forward Thaddeus Young told the team's official website. "Just shooting shots over guys when we could have been kicking it back out \2013 when we get into those situations, we have to learn to just back the ball out or turn around and kick it back out to guys."
The 76ers now return home, where they have lost five straight and 11 of 13. Philadelphia hasn't suffered six consecutive home losses since a franchise-worst 12-game skid in 1996-97.
Boston, which has dropped 11 of 12 on the road, is 1-4 in its last five visits to Philadelphia.
Rondo is averaging 15.4 assists in his past five matchups with the 76ers.
