KEY GAME INFORMATION
MILWAUKEE: GUARDS: The Bucks hope to fill a gaping hole at point guard with a committee approach. BRANDON KNIGHT, an undersized, athletically-overmatched combo guard, will get first crack at the job . . . Ex-Laker KENDALL MARSHALL, a heady floor general who can't shoot or defend, is an option as well . . . KHRIS MIDDLETON, a spot-up shooter, has a good chance to retain his starting job . . . New head coach Jason Kidd will try to rebuild O.J. MAYO, who could emerge as a serviceable sixth man, but looked wholly disinterested last season . . . The arrival of Marshall likely pushes NATE WOLTERS out of the rotation. He could be ticketed for the D-League at some point this season. FORWARDS: JABARI PARKER becomes the new face of this franchise. He can score as well as facilitate the offense. The only real question is what kind of defensive effort he puts in . . . GIANNIS ANTETOKOUNMPO will be used at both forward spots and both guard spots as well. The Greek Freak is raw, but the Bucks will expand his role . . . After a season in Larry Drew's doghouse, the coaching change should bode well for ERSAN ILYASOVA. He's likely looking at a part-time role . . . JOHN HENSON will play some 4 and 5, though his lack of an offensive game limits his appeal . . . JOHNNY O'BRYANT III might push for a rotation spot once he returns from a knee injury in late November. He's one of the few big men on this team who can score around the basket . . . If DAMIEN INGLIS comes over, he's looking at a D-League stint. CENTERS: Kidd is a LARRY SANDERS believer, so after a season filled with injuries and knucklehead behavior, he'll have every chance to bounce back. When he's in the right place, he's an elite rim protector . . . Larry Drew favorite ZAZA PACHULIA is looking at a traditional back-up role now that Drew is gone.
ORLANDO: GUARDS: VICTOR OLADIPO, who will miss the first four weeks of season with a facial fracture suffered in a late October practice, will play off the ball more, allowing him to slash from the wing. It's a more natural role for him . . . With Jameer Nelson jettisoned, ELFRID PAYTON will step in as the starter at the point. He has an enormous transition from the Sun Belt Conference, but the quickness and athleticism are there . . . EVAN FOURNIER never found consistency in Denver, but could be a valuable wing shooter on a team that needs it . . . BEN GORDON was signed with a very 'tradeable' contract in mind. The Magic are hoping he shoots well enough to draw some suitors . . . LUKE RIDNOUR is a veteran insurance policy behind Payton . . . WILLIE GREEN can be an effective second-unit player . . . ROY DEVYN MARBLE seems like a D-Leaguer. FORWARDS: The Magic brought in CHANNING FRYE to provide some floor spacing and a veteran presence, both much-needed . . . TOBIAS HARRIS will likely have to play some more small forward. He has the offensive skill set to do it, but defense will continue to be an issue . . . He can play both forward spots, and AARON GORDON should be one of the league's better defensive forwards right off the bat. But for now, his offense is limited to dunking . . . It's a big year for MAURICE HARKLESS, who has yet to establish himself as a rotation-caliber player. With Harris and Gordon capable of playing the 3, Harkless could lose major minutes . . . ANDREW NICHOLSON has a ways to go after a disappointing second season. He's likely on the outside of this rotation. CENTERS: NIKOLA VUCEVIC is a cornerstone player in Orlando because he's big, and he does everything just well enough. He's not a game-changer on either side of the court . . . KYLE O'QUINN has had some good moments in garbage-time games the past two seasons. It's enough to keep him on the roster.

*Bucks-Magic Preview* =====================

By NOEY KUPCHAN STATS Writer

Milwaukee (23-22) at Orlando (15-33), 7:00 p.m. EDT

It's been over 10 years since the Milwaukee Bucks last tasted victory in Orlando, but they could be catching the Magic at just the right time.

The Bucks try to hand the last-place Magic a season-worst seventh consecutive defeat Thursday night.

These teams haven't seen each other since Nov. 14, when the Bucks (23-22) were handed a 101-85 loss at Amway Center. Brandon Knight finished with 24 points and Giannis Antetokounmpo added 19, but Milwaukee was limited to a combined 55 points over the final three quarters.

The Bucks have been outscored by an average of 13.3 points during a 17-game road losing streak in the series since winning 111-105 on Dec. 29, 2004. However, they could have the edge this time around if the Magic's recent efforts are any indication.

Orlando has lost 12 of 14 since Dec. 30, with those two victories coming between six-game losing streaks. The Magic (15-33) have surrendered an average of 113.8 points during their current skid and at least 100 in 10 consecutive games for the first time since a 14-game streak Jan. 28-Feb. 22, 1992.

"I think it's been tough on him just like on all of us, he obviously knows that we're capable of more," center Nikola Vucevic said of coach Jacque Vaughn. "We know that we're so close, we're just missing that something that can take us over the hump."

Orlando is hoping to build on an encouraging second half in Monday's 103-94 loss at Memphis. The Magic were outscored 67-48 over the first two quarters before holding the Grizzlies to 36 points the rest of the way.

"You need that willingness to get dirty, play together and not mind getting hit and having confrontation and being OK with it," Vaughn told the team's official website. "You have to be scrappy. \2026 You've got to be dedicated to getting stops and it has to have a high value of importance to you. In the second half we did."

The Bucks are looking to make it two in a row after winning 109-102 at Miami on Tuesday. Seven players scored in double figures as Milwaukee shot 54.9 percent for its highest mark in 21 games.

"They believe in one another and they believe they can win," said coach Jason Kidd, whose team trailed by 10 late in the third quarter. "Even when we were down, guys didn't panic, guys didn't take bad shots, our defense tightened up and we went from there."

Brandon Knight leads the Bucks with 17.9 points per game, but nobody else on the active roster is averaging more than 12.0.

"Different guys on different nights," forward Jared Dudley said. "And that's the motto of our team."

Knight is averaging 21.4 points over a five-game stretch against the Magic. Orlando's Tobias Harris, acquired from Milwaukee in February 2013, is averaging 24.7 points and 11.7 boards in three home matchups against his former team.

Harris has been limited to an average of 11.8 points and 38.6 percent shooting in four games off the bench since returning from a sprained ankle, down from his season marks of 17.4 and 46.5. The Magic are 10-9 when he scores at least 18.

Orlando is 5-0 at home when scoring at least 100 points compared to 0-15 when it doesn't.

Milwaukee has won six of its last seven road games against fellow Eastern Conference opponents.
