| | | BOSTON: GUARDS: RAJON RONDO's name is etched on the trading block. Regardless of where he lands, his injured knee should be 100 percent healthy . . . With an improved three-point shot, AVERY BRADLEY has become a complete player. His defense guarantees minutes regardless . . . MARCUS SMART seems to be waiting in the wings for a Rondo trade. In the meantime, he'll back up both guard spots. Just like in college, he'll be brilliant at times, but inconsistent . . . Local product PHIL PRESSEY will stick around as a No. 3 point guard . . . EVAN TURNER was a disaster in Indy. He'll have a tough time making this rotation . . . MARCUS THORNTON was acquired as a trade throw-in. The Celtics don't have big plans for the remorseless gunner. FORWARDS: He's isn't a legitimate No. 1 option, but JEFF GREEN will be the go-to guy again. He hasn't been able to handle the extra defensive attention, becoming increasingly inefficient . . . He has plenty of limitations on both ends of the court, but JARED SULLINGER is a crafty scorer. He'll get close to starter minutes as the Celtics search for offense . . . BRANDON BASS will see time at the 4 and the 5. He's made a pledge to improve offensively, but more likely he'll be a defensive presence and a screen-setter . . . JAMES YOUNG missed most of the summer healing a neck injury. He's going to do some damage running the floor, but he doesn't have the skills for the half-court game in the NBA . . . GERALD WALLACE is playing out the string. CENTERS: KELLY OLYNYK has the most upside in this frontcourt. His rare mobility and skill set for a 7-footer made a difference last year. It's just a question of whether he can hold up defensively down low . . . TYLER ZELLER gives them another solid 7-footer who opposing defenses have to account for. He'll fit well in head coach Brad Stevens' system . . . JOEL ANTHONY isn't going to get off the bench. | | ORLANDO: GUARDS: VICTOR OLADIPO, who will miss the first four weeks of season with a facial fracture suffered in a late October practice, will play off the ball more, allowing him to slash from the wing. It's a more natural role for him . . . With Jameer Nelson jettisoned, ELFRID PAYTON will step in as the starter at the point. He has an enormous transition from the Sun Belt Conference, but the quickness and athleticism are there . . . EVAN FOURNIER never found consistency in Denver, but could be a valuable wing shooter on a team that needs it . . . BEN GORDON was signed with a very 'tradeable' contract in mind. The Magic are hoping he shoots well enough to draw some suitors . . . LUKE RIDNOUR is a veteran insurance policy behind Payton . . . WILLIE GREEN can be an effective second-unit player . . . ROY DEVYN MARBLE seems like a D-Leaguer. FORWARDS: The Magic brought in CHANNING FRYE to provide some floor spacing and a veteran presence, both much-needed . . . TOBIAS HARRIS will likely have to play some more small forward. He has the offensive skill set to do it, but defense will continue to be an issue . . . He can play both forward spots, and AARON GORDON should be one of the league's better defensive forwards right off the bat. But for now, his offense is limited to dunking . . . It's a big year for MAURICE HARKLESS, who has yet to establish himself as a rotation-caliber player. With Harris and Gordon capable of playing the 3, Harkless could lose major minutes . . . ANDREW NICHOLSON has a ways to go after a disappointing second season. He's likely on the outside of this rotation. CENTERS: NIKOLA VUCEVIC is a cornerstone player in Orlando because he's big, and he does everything just well enough. He's not a game-changer on either side of the court . . . KYLE O'QUINN has had some good moments in garbage-time games the past two seasons. It's enough to keep him on the roster. |

*Celtics-Magic Preview* =======================
By JEFF MEZYDLO STATS Senior Writer
Boston (10-15) at Orlando (10-20), 7:00 p.m. EDT
Jameer Nelson spent his first 10 seasons with the Orlando Magic.
Last week, he played for two different clubs in a span of five days.
One of Boston's newest additions, Nelson returns to Orlando to face his former team for the first time Tuesday night as the Celtics try to hand the Magic a season-high fifth consecutive defeat.
Playing his first season in Dallas, Nelson wasn't scheduled to make his Orlando homecoming until the Mavericks visited Jan. 31. However, he quickly must prepare to return after being part of the deal that sent four-time All-Star Rajon Rondo to Dallas on Thursday.
Nelson averaged 12.6 points, 5.4 assists and made an All-Star appearance in 2009 for the Magic, who waived him in a salary-cap move in June. He then signed with Dallas, where he averaged 7.3 points with 4.1 assists while starting all 23 games before the trade.
In his Boston debut Sunday, Nelson had three points, three assists and two turnovers in 20 minutes of a 100-84 loss at Miami.
"I'm a leader no matter what, no matter what team I'm on, who's on the floor, or who's in the locker room," he told the Celtics' official website. "I take the challenge. I'm not a guy who runs away from adversity."
Though Nelson came off the bench Sunday, it would seem likely he'll step into Rondo's spot at the point. He said the system used by Boston coach Brad Stevens is similar to the one run by Stan Van Gundy, the current Detroit coach who guided the Magic from 2007-2012.
"Basically, you've got to come here with a clear mind and become brainwashed quickly," Nelson said. "It's a great group of guys here and the organization is one of the best. I've come here and been welcomed pretty warmly."
Brandan Wright and Jae Crowder, who came over with Nelson from Dallas, also made their Boston debuts Sunday. Wright had six points and three rebounds in 13 minutes while Crowder didn't score in seven for the Celtics (10-15), whose three-game winning streak ended after they shot 39.8 percent in their lowest-scoring game of the season.
"We're all guessing a little bit, especially with the new guys," Stevens said. "This is a little bit of an exploratory time for us. We don't get the chance to do that during practice. We have to do that during games."
Tyler Zeller had 22 points with eight rebounds for Boston, which has lost five of six on the road.
Zeller had 10 points and was one of six Celtics in double figures Wednesday as they shot 55.0 percent to beat the Magic (10-20) for the 12th time in 13 games, 109-92.
Boston's loss during that span - 93-91 on Jan. 19 - snapped a four-game winning streak at Orlando.
Among the NBA's lowest-scoring teams, Orlando has averaged 89.0 points during a skid that reached four games with Sunday's 96-88 home loss to lowly Philadelphia.
"We have to take care of this very quickly or a three- or four-game streak can turn into a 10-game losing streak very quick," center Nikola Vucevic told the Magic's official website after recording 19 points and 17 rebounds.
Victor Oladipo scored 23 points on 10-of-16 shooting after totaling nine and going 4 of 18 in the previous two contests. He's averaged 10.8 points and shot 27.7 percent in five games versus Boston.
