KEY GAME INFORMATION
MEMPHIS: GUARDS: The Grizzlies will scale back MIKE CONLEY's minutes a bit. He's a quality starting point guard, but seemed to lose some pep as last season wore on . . . TONY ALLEN figures to see more playing time now that O.J. Mayo is gone. He's an outstanding defender who will be the fifth option on offense . . . JERRYD BAYLESS figures to become the new sixth man and Allen platoon partner. He'll also spell Conley at the point, leading to solid minutes for the combo guard . . . Second-year man JOSH SELBY has a chance for a rotation spot after starring in the Summer League. He has big offensive upside . . . WAYNE ELLINGTON seems like an emergency plan for the second unit . . . This is likely a redshirt year for talented, but erratic, rookie TONY WROTEN. FORWARDS: RUDY GAY is going to lead the Grizzlies in touches and shots. He's not shy about looking for iso situations . . . ZACH RANDOLPH had trouble getting back into the flow after his knee injury. It's always been a fragile balance with Z-Bo, and he could be an odd man out going forward . . . MARREESE SPEIGHTS should be the offensive focal point of the bench unit as their sixth man . . . QUINCY PONDEXTER is a versatile defensive piece who will see solid minutes off the bench. He's a non-factor offensively, though . . . DARRELL ARTHUR suffered a non-displaced fractured in his leg in late September, and will not likely be ready when the season begins. A rising young big, his role will depend on when his athleticism comes back. CENTERS: The Grizzlies are at their best when MARC GASOL is getting touches and shots on the offensive end. Whether or not Gay and Randolph are willing to share is a concern, but Gasol has to be aggressive when the ball is in his hands . . . HAMED HADDADI will continue to play limited minutes off the bench.
ORLANDO: GUARDS: With Dwight Howard gone, this becomes JAMEER NELSON's team on the offensive end. Injuries slowed him a year ago, but he still does a nice job creating his own scoring chances . . . ARRON AFFLALO will provide some much-needed defense on the perimeter, a huge team weakness that will be exploited in the post-Howard era. He'll be a No. 2 or 3 option on the offensive end as well . . . J.J. REDICK has a chance for a bigger role in what should be a transitional year in Orlando. He's no more of a defensive liability than Nelson . . . CHRISTIAN EYENGA was a throw-in during the Dwight Howard trade and defends well enough to earn a roster spot . . . ISHMAEL SMITH will back up Nelson once he returns from a shoulder injury . . . E'TWAUN MOORE has played well enough in the preseason to spell Nelson too. FORWARDS: HEDO TURKOGLU still has some value as a point forward, though his minutes could shrink as Orlando rebuilds . . . GLEN DAVIS shined in Howard's absence last year. He's inefficient, but aggressive and willing to throw his weight around . . . Keep an eye on ANDREW NICHOLSON; the rookie is a crafty scorer who can shoot away from the basket . . . QUENTIN RICHARDSON will chug along as an injury-prone, three-point specialist . . . AL HARRINGTON is coming off a couple knee surgeries and may not have much left in the tank . . . MOE HARKLESS is athletic, versatile, and could get a long look in the second half of the year . . . GUSTAVO AYON is a capable big body who can play some center . . . JUSTIN HARPER will be buried on the bench . . . JOSH McROBERTS is not good. CENTERS: Davis figures to see a lot of minutes at center, but NIKOLA VUCEVIC is a much better defensive option. He's limited offensively, but could start grabbing more minutes in the middle as the year goes on . . . KYLE O'QUINN is a big body who can score around the basket. He has a rough transition ahead of him as an average athlete from a small school.

*Grizzlies-Magic Preview* =========================

By ALAN FERGUSON STATS Writer

Memphis (38-19) at Orlando (16-43), 6:00 p.m. EDT

After falling short of surpassing the longest win streak in franchise history, the Memphis Grizzlies would appear to have a good chance to start another run.

The Grizzlies begin a string of five games against sub-.500 opponents as they visit the Orlando Magic on Sunday night.

Memphis had won eight in a row, matching the club record, before Friday's 98-91 road loss to a Miami team which leads the Eastern Conference and is riding a 13-game win streak. The Grizzlies trailed by only one point with less than 30 seconds left.

"I have no problem with the game," coach Lionel Hollins said. "We were right there. They just made a few more plays than we did down the stretch."

Marc Gasol had 24 points - he's averaging 19.5 with 10.3 rebounds over the past four games - but no teammate scored more than 14. Zach Randolph scored 14 despite hurting his left ankle on the game's first possession, and postgame X-rays were reportedly negative.

Memphis (38-19) might not need Randolph to take care of Orlando (16-43), which is 4-30 since Dec. 20 and has dropped 16 of 18 at home. The Grizzlies' ensuing schedule includes two matchups with slumping Portland sandwiched around games against last-place teams Cleveland and New Orleans.

Their win streak was built mainly by taking care of lackluster opponents, with six of the eight wins coming against teams with losing records. That includes an 88-82 home victory Feb. 22 over Orlando, which had seven players available because of injuries and a six-player trade with Milwaukee the previous day.

One of the players acquired in that deal which sent J.J. Redick to the Bucks is Tobias Harris, who has averaged 20.0 points in four games off the bench in a Magic uniform. He had a career-high 27 in a 118-110 home loss to Houston on Friday, when Orlando was outscored 20-10 in the final five minutes.

"We went out there tonight and played a heck of a game, brought a lot of energy, and battled to the end of the game," Harris said. "It just shows that as a team we're making steps. ... If we can just keep building on this, I think that would be good for us."

Orlando has allowed an average of 114.8 points in its last five home games and 108.0 in its past 10 overall. Memphis, meanwhile, has given up an average of 83.6 over its last five contests and 85.8 in its past four on the road.

The Grizzlies have won three in a row over the Magic - all in Memphis - and have lost three straight at Orlando but haven't visited since Nov. 15, 2010.

Gasol has averaged 20.0 points on 71.4 percent shooting during the Grizzlies' three-game win streak in the series, including a team-best 19 points with 13 rebounds in last month's matchup.

Magic rookie Maurice Harkless also scored 19 in that game and is averaging 14.6 points over his last seven, compared to 4.8 in his first 46 NBA contests.
