| |  | MINNESOTA: GUARDS: RICKY RUBIO is a fine ball-handler and creative passer, but it would be nice if he knocked down some shots . . . The Wolves are still trying to move KEVIN MARTIN's contract. He has devolved into more of a spot-up shooter . . . ANDREW WIGGINS should immediately contribute for this team. He'll be an elite defender, sooner rather than later, and should be able to produce points as well . . . Shoot-first combo guard MO WILLIAMS will head up the second unit . . . J.J. BAREA is also likely to be moved. He can still do the Mighty Mouse, sixth-man thing . . . On paper, CHASE BUDINGER is a great fit alongside Rubio due to his shooting and movement off the ball. He has to stay healthy though . . . Head coach Flip Saunders is high on ZACH LaVINE, a pure athlete who didn't do much of anything as a freshman at UCLA. FORWARDS: THADDEUS YOUNG is now the best player in this Timberwolves frontcourt. He'll lead the team in scoring and eats up rebounds as well . . . ANTHONY BENNETT should play some significant minutes with this team. He's a good scorer and will try to prove that he was just not ready to come into a bad situation last season . . . COREY BREWER has established himself as a solid defender on the wing who can knock down some threes and run the floor well . . . GLENN ROBINSON III should earn immediate minutes due to his defense . . . SHABAZZ MUHAMMAD gets new life with a new coaching regime coming in. He could be a crafty second-unit scorer . . . RONNY TURIAF is a big body who can protect the rim. CENTERS: NIKOLA PEKOVIC is a big part of this offense without needing plays designed for him. He's arguably the top offensive rebounder in the NBA . . . GORGUI DIENG impressed late last season and should be ready for a bigger role. He and Pekovic might be in a timeshare by the season's second half. | | OKLAHOMA CITY: GUARDS: Everything should be a full go with RUSSELL WESTBROOK. His attacking style of play will always carry some injury risk, but he hasn't lost any explosiveness to this point . . . REGGIE JACKSON wants to start, but it's a question of whether the Thunder can survive defensively with him and Westbrook in a small backcourt. Jackson is certainly their second-best offensive guard . . . ANTHONY MORROW can flat-out shoot. He can't do anything else, but that floor spacing might be enough to get him 20 minutes per night . . . If the light doesn't turn on, JEREMY LAMB will be on the outside of this rotation. FORWARDS: Once he returns from his foot injury in late November, it should be the same old story for KEVIN DURANT, the reigning NBA MVP . . . He still struggles defensively in space, but SERGE IBAKA will be right there among the league leaders in blocks again. Throw in a reliable mid-range game, and more offensive responsibility with Durant out, and he's a fringe All-Star . . . NICK COLLISON takes charges, but doesn't do much else . . . Rookie MITCH McGARY could be pushing Collison for minutes by midseason . . . ANDRE ROBERSON could get another handful of starts as a defensive presence on the wing, but he rarely plays 20-plus minutes . . . PERRY JONES is on the fringe of this roster. CENTERS: Is this it? Could this be the season that the Thunder finally stop playing KENDRICK PERKINS? . . . STEVEN ADAMS came on strong late last season and is probably already better than Perk. He can defend and moves the ball offensively. |

Following a disappointing end to their road trip, the Oklahoma City Thunder are likely eager for a return home, however brief.
As an added motivation, the Thunder have a chance to secure the longest win streak on their own floor this season Monday night against the lowly Minnesota Timberwolves.
Oklahoma City (22-22) won the first three of a season-high five-game trek before dropping the final two. The Thunder wrapped it up with a 108-98 defeat to Cleveland on Sunday, as the Cavaliers took command with a 13-2 run that began in the final minute of the third quarter.
"The second and fourth quarters they got off to nice starts. We have to be better," forward Kevin Durant told the team's official website after finishing with 32 points and a season-high nine assists. "Our chemistry is growing every day. We just have to figure it out."
Oklahoma City has a two-game trip that begins Wednesday against New York, but will first try to win its sixth in a row at home. The Thunder have also taken 10 of 12 in Oklahoma City immediately following a season-high four-game home skid.
They'll face a Minnesota team that's lost in each of its last nine visits to Oklahoma City and four in a row overall in the series. The Timberwolves (7-36) fell 111-92 at home Dec. 12 in this season's only meeting.
They have also dropped four in a row since a 113-105 win in Denver on Jan. 17, and 20 of 22 beginning with the loss to the Thunder. As perhaps expected from a team with the NBA's worst record, Minnesota also has one of the worst road marks at 4-18.
The Timberwolves became the latest to fall to a red-hot Atlanta in a 112-100 road defeat Sunday. They couldn't overcome an 18-point deficit in the second quarter and got no closer than six points.
Thaddeus Young was one of the bright spots for Minnesota with 26 points - three shy of tying a season high - and Mo Williams had 20 on 8-of-15 shooting. Williams averaged 10.0 points and shot 27.7 percent in his prior four games.
Nikola Pekovic got the start and scored 15 points after coming off the bench in his first two games since returning from a lengthy absence due to a wrist injury.
"Even though (Pekovic) is back, everyone has to adjust how they play," coach Flip Saunders said.
Pekovic has missed Minnesota's past two games against Oklahoma City and had 31 points - three short of tying a career high - in his most recent matchup Jan. 4, 2014. He's averaged 22.5 points and 11.5 rebounds in his last four games versus the Thunder.
Russell Westbrook paced Oklahoma City with 34 points in last month's win over the Timberwolves and has topped 20 points in three consecutive games for the first time since a 15-game run Nov. 28-Dec. 26 following his return from a fractured right hand. He scored 22 points Sunday.
Durant was held to 16 points - his third-lowest total this season - against Minnesota last month after averaging 32.8 in his prior 16 matchups. He's averaged 30.3 points in his last eight home contests against the Timberwolves.
