KEY GAME INFORMATION
GOLDEN STATE: GUARDS: STEPHEN CURRY is this offense's engine and a stat-stuffing machine, as long as he's healthy. His ankle should be healed, but his small frame hasn't proven to be up to the rigors of the NBA . . . KLAY THOMPSON is a pure shooter who played himself into a starting job last year. He's a bit one-dimensional, but this spread, up-tempo offense is right up his alley . . . JARRETT JACK will back up both guard spots and provide some insurance for the fragile Curry . . . BRANDON RUSH is going to push for a starting job, but he's never proven to be more than a second-unit talent . . . As a rookie, CHARLES JENKINS proved worthy of a roster spot during his late-season audition. But he'll be looking at a lot of DNP-CDs as long as Curry and Jack are healthy. FORWARDS: DAVID LEE's touches will drop alongside Andrew Bogut. The Warriors seem prepared to give him major minutes despite his defensive shortcomings . . . HARRISON BARNES should push for a starting job early. He's not a great iso player, but the Warriors' offense should set him up with catch-and-score opportunities . . . CARL LANDRY is active around the basket and should do some damage over 20 MPG . . . RICHARD JEFFERSON is going to be in a mentor role until his contract expires in two years . . . JEREMY TYLER is young and a borderline usable big off the bench . . . Second-rounder DRAYMOND GREEN isn't an athlete but does a bit of everything. He figures to have a limited role as a rookie. CENTERS: His fractured ankle is not quite 100 percent, but ANDREW BOGUT hopes to be healed enough when the season starts to be the centerpiece of the frontcourt. He can rebound and defend, and he'll get his share of easy scoring opportunities with so many shooters spreading the floor . . . The Warriors seem content to let ANDRIS BIEDRINS rot on the bench . . . Rookie FESTUS EZELI is too raw offensively to see significant minutes.
NEW YORK: GUARDS: RAYMOND FELTON will start at the point, which seems like a colossal mistake. He had his career year in New York under Mike D'Antoni, but the Knicks have gone away from the pick-and-roll system he thrived in . . . Don't be surprised if JASON KIDD is overtaking Felton in minutes played by midseason. He's limited athletically but still a heady passer . . . Resident chucker J.R. SMITH should see big minutes early before IMAN SHUMPERT steps in as the defense half of their shooting guard platoon as soon as his knee is recovered mid-season . . . RONNIE BREWER will be Smith's defensive complement while Shumpert is out . . . PABLO PRIGIONI is a game manager who provides insurance at the point. FORWARDS: This is once again CARMELO ANTHONY's team, as the Knicks will run their offense through him. It's going to be a lot of iso, and a lot of scoring opportunities for Melo . . . AMAR'E STOUDEMIRE doesn't fit nearly as well in this system as he did in former coach Mike D'Antoni's. He ended up forcing a lot of shots a year ago, and his durability is a major question mark . . . STEVE NOVAK will continue to come off the bench strictly as a three-point shooter. He's one of the best long-range bombers in the NBA, but he's too much of a defensive liability to play more than 20 minutes per night . . . Swingman JAMES WHITE will also get some minutes at the two or three spots with his 6-foot-7 frame. . . CHRIS COPELAND had some solid years overseas, but will be lucky to break into this rotation . . . KURT THOMAS is in player/coach mode. CENTERS: TYSON CHANDLER is indispensible on the defensive end as long as sieves Carmelo Anthony and Amar'e Stoudemire are also in the frontcourt . . . MARCUS CAMBY can't defendin space like Chandler can, but his ability to rebound and protect the rim will come in handy as the second unit is no better defensively than the starters . . . RASHEED WALLACE came out of retirement, but has a long way to go, especially with his lack of conditioning, before he contributes much at age 38.

*Warriors-Knicks Preview* =========================

By NICOLINO DIBENEDETTO STATS Writer

Golden State (33-23) at New York (33-20), 8:00 p.m. EDT

A return to Madison Square Garden seemed to spark the New York Knicks.

Based on their recent performances against the Golden State Warriors, they might need more than just home-court advantage to avoid a return to their losing ways.

The Knicks look to close out an up-and-down month by getting a rare win over the Warriors on Wednesday night.

New York (33-20) snapped a season-high four-game slide with a 99-93 victory over Philadelphia on Sunday.

"Losing games, games we think we're supposed to win, you come into a game like this, we want to win," said Carmelo Anthony, who had 29 points and seven rebounds while picking up a flagrant foul. "Definitely want to be a very high-intensity game, a very high-energetic game back here on our home court and we didn't want to lose this game."

Part of that urgency may have to do with the Knicks holding a 1 1/2-game lead on second-place Brooklyn atop the Atlantic Division. They've also dropped to third in the Eastern Conference, one game behind Indiana.

The Warriors (33-24) didn't do New York any favors Tuesday, falling 108-97 to the Pacers after opening their five-game road trip with a 100-99 victory at Minnesota on Sunday.

The Knicks, 20-8 at home, will try to hand Golden State a seventh loss in its last eight road games. However, New York is 4-15 in its past 19 meetings with the Warriors, losing six of nine at MSG and each of the last two.

Anthony's only matchup with Golden State as a member of the Knicks ended in a 92-78 road loss on Dec. 28, 2011. He missed 10 of 13 from the floor while finishing with 13 points, well below his 26.6-point career average against the Warriors.

Amare Stoudemire made just 5 of 14 shots in that game, but he's coming off a season-high 22-point performance while hitting 9 of 10 from the field against the 76ers.

While the Knicks are coming off a game that featured three technicals and a flagrant, the Warriors' latest contest was perhaps even more physical. Indiana's Roy Hibbert was ejected after starting a skirmish with David Lee, and four technicals were handed out in all - one to Stephen Curry for trying to intervene.

"It was just physical play," Curry said. "Teams are gearing up for playoff basketball and amping up the intensity a little bit."

Curry will try to keep doing his part after scoring a season-high 38 points while sinking 14 of 20 attempts from the floor Tuesday. He totaled 37 points over the previous two games.

Curry missed the last meeting with the Knicks, but totaled 54 over the previous two.

Lee, who spent his first five seasons with the Knicks, has averaged 19.7 points and 15.7 rebounds in his last three games, and he'll be making his second trip to the Garden as a visitor. He had 28 points and 10 boards there in a 122-117 win on Nov. 10, 2010.
