KEY GAME INFORMATION
DENVER: Shooters are en vogue, which Emmanuel Mudiay is not. But he is a big, athletic point guard who will overpower defenders. He'll be effective, it's just going to be a matter of the learning curve . . . Randy Foye figures to back up both guard spots. He's a fungible veteran chucker . . . Jameer Nelson figures to be in more of a mentor role for Mudiay. His playing time should dwindle as Mudiay improves . . . After spending his rookie year on a milk carton, Gary Harris will have a chance to play his way into the rotation as Denver rebuilds . . . Will Barton is still a work in progress. He needs to shoot it better . . . Nick Johnson could carve out a career as a defensive specialist . . . Erick Green's ceiling is a Foye-type sixth man. Wilson Chandler is the most reliable scorer left in Denver. The veteran will play both wing spots and could easily lead the team in shot attempts . . . Trade rumors constantly swirl around Kenneth Faried. He's a double double guy when he's getting minutes, but he seems to have a tendency to rub coaches the wrong way . . . The best player in Denver is Danilo Gallinari, who must prove he can stay healthy. When he's on the court, he's a true No. 1 scoring option . . . Solid back-up big man Darrell Arthur returns as a quality defender with the ability to knock down the occasional mid-range jumper . . . A throw-in in the Ty Lawson deal, Kostas Papanikolaou has to shoot much better to earn a rotation spot in Denver. Jusuf Nurkic is a monster on the low block. He is also a foul machine who will rarely stay on the floor for 30 minutes and won't be ready for the season opener (knee) . . . Nikola Jokic arrives as another quality import. He's not athletic, but he's big and skilled . . . If you're trying to pinpoint where things went wrong for Denver, signing J.J. Hickson with their mid-level exception a few years back is a good place to start . . . Joey Dorsey isn't long for this roster.
MILWAUKEE: His new contract is a bit eye-opening, but between his shooting and his ability to cover ground on defense, Khris Middleton is exactly what the Bucks want on the wings . . . Michael Carter-Williams does a lot of things well, but it will be tough for head coach Jason Kidd to play him full-time starter's minutes while he's bricking so many jumpers . . . That's the reason why Milwaukee acquired Greivis Vasquez. He could end up in close to a 50/50 time split with Carter-Williams . . . O.J. Mayo will continue to serve as a high-scoring sixth man . . . Jerryd Bayless will lose minutes, but the Bucks can go three guards often with their scrambling defense . . . Rookie Rashad Vaughn is probably a year away from significant minutes . . . Tyler Ennis is buried as the third point guard. He has taken significant steps forward in each of his first two seasons, and Giannis Antetokounmpo still has plenty of room to grow. The Greek Freak is perfect for what the Bucks do defensively, with the ability to scramble and cover a ton of ground. Offensively, the next step is adding a three-point shot . . . Jabari Parker is the mystery man on this roster. He was not off to a great start early last season, then tore his ACL. He's skilled and a capable offensive player, but pairing him and Greg Monroe would give them two minus defenders in the frontcourt . . . Chris Copeland is one-dimensional, but his shooting comes in handy as a stretch 4 . . . Johnny O'Bryant will likely be on the outside looking in at the rotation of bigs. Greg Monroe is what he is: a skilled offensive player but a subpar athlete who is a liability on defense. The Bucks are banking that the active, scrambling defenders they'll surround him with can make up for that . . . When the Bucks go defense, rim protector and all around Inspector Gadget athlete John Henson can play the 4 or 5 . . . Miles Plumlee is a warm body with six fouls to give.
PREVIEW
Nuggets-Bucks Preview

The Milwaukee Bucks made lineup changes in order to alleviate their defensive woes, though it didn't prevent a sixth loss in seven games.

Coach Jason Kidd has not decided whether he will stick with a defensive-minded lineup when the Bucks try to hand the visiting Denver Nuggets a seventh straight loss Monday night.

Kidd opted to use Michael Carter-Williams and Jabari Parker off the bench for the first time in Sunday's 87-82 defeat at Charlotte, giving O.J. Mayo his first start and Jerryd Bayless his first in his last six games.

The moves were made because Milwaukee (6-11) allows 109.0 points per 48 minutes for the league's worst mark. They changes proved very successful, as the Bucks yielded a point total that matched their second-lowest and limited the Hornets to 38.6 percent for their second-best mark.

Milwaukee held Charlotte to 37.5 percent shooting in the first quarter in building a six-point lead.

''I thought the lineup switch got us off to a really good start,'' said Kidd, who said he will discuss with his staff what lineup to use Monday. ''Defensively, guys were into it. We got a lot of deflections. We had multiple shooters on the floor.''

Milwaukee outscored Charlotte in every quarter except the second, a period that proved decisive as the Hornets held a 23-9 edge.

"The effort was there, the energy was there, the understanding is you gotta play four quarters and we just came up short in one of them," Kidd said.

One horrific quarter was an issue for Denver (6-11) in Saturday's 92-81 loss at Dallas. The Nuggets were outscored 25-5 in the third after going into halftime up by four.

"Our challenge is to play for 48 minutes and we've been unable to do so lately," coach Michael Malone said. "We go to Milwaukee and we gotta try to get that losing streak over by getting a win and to stop beating yourself on the road."

The Nuggets haven't lost seven in a row since Jan. 16-26.

"I temper my frustration with the understanding that we are a very young team," Malone said. "When we start our normal lineup, we have a 19-year-old, a 20-year-old and a 21-year-old so being young in the Western Conference makes it difficult. So it is frustrating, nobody likes to lose, we all hate to lose but you lose six games in a row, that gets old after a while."

The 21-year-old player in question is second-year guard Gary Harris, who started the first 16 games before sitting out Saturday with a concussion. Randy Foye took his place in the lineup.

Denver welcomed back Kenneth Faried, who had 10 points and five rebounds in 14 minutes after missing three games with a sprained ankle.

Faried scored on a putback of Danilo Gallinari's missed shot for the winning basket in Denver's 103-102 home victory over Milwaukee on Nov. 11. Gallinari scored 25 in the Nuggets' 10th victory in 11 games against the Bucks.

Bayless led Milwaukee with 22 points and Greg Monroe had 18 and 10 rebounds. Carter-Williams and Parker missed the contest due to injuries.
