| | | HOUSTON: GUARDS: The postseason was a different story for JAMES HARDEN, but he was a dominant all-around performer during the past two regular seasons. He'll do the bulk of the ball-handling for the up-tempo Rockets . . . After looking for an upgrade during the offseason, it's back to PATRICK BEVERLEY at the point. He's the No. 4 or 5 option on offense, but his defense will keep him on the floor . . . There's little backcourt depth, so rookie NICK JOHNSON has a shot at the rotation. He's NBA-ready as a defender, but his offensive game is shaky . . . ISH SMITH will push for that back-up point guard job . . . ISAIAH CANAAN will have to shoot the lights out early to get a look in the rotation . . . FRANCISCO GARCIA is still here as a 3-and-D option. FORWARDS: TREVOR ARIZA slides into Chandler Parsons' old role, providing defense and three-point shooting. He has a chance for a career-best output offensively . . . The Rockets know they need an upgrade over TERRENCE JONES, but they struck out during the offseason. He's a hustle guy, but he's too much of a defensive liability at the 4-spot . . . After disappearing last season, DONATAS MOTIEJUNAS has a chance to play himself into a thin frontcourt rotation. He's a potential 7-foot floor spacer . . . JEFF ADRIEN will be a "little things" guy in the second unit . . . They wanted to leave CLINT CAPELA overseas, but he'll be in Houston. He might be the future at the 4-spot, but he's years away . . . KOSTAS PAPANIKOLAOU has potential as a versatile bench option. CENTERS: DWIGHT HOWARD looked healthy again and was, at times, dominant. His game still has obvious flaws, namely free-throw shooting and an inability to step away from the basket, but there's no reason he can't flirt with 20-10 nightly while being among the league leaders in blocks . . . Ex-Rocket JOEY DORSEY returns after a strong stint in Spain. He'll bring some muscle (and six fouls) behind Howard. | | MILWAUKEE: GUARDS: The Bucks hope to fill a gaping hole at point guard with a committee approach. BRANDON KNIGHT, an undersized, athletically-overmatched combo guard, will get first crack at the job . . . Ex-Laker KENDALL MARSHALL, a heady floor general who can't shoot or defend, is an option as well . . . KHRIS MIDDLETON, a spot-up shooter, has a good chance to retain his starting job . . . New head coach Jason Kidd will try to rebuild O.J. MAYO, who could emerge as a serviceable sixth man, but looked wholly disinterested last season . . . The arrival of Marshall likely pushes NATE WOLTERS out of the rotation. He could be ticketed for the D-League at some point this season. FORWARDS: JABARI PARKER becomes the new face of this franchise. He can score as well as facilitate the offense. The only real question is what kind of defensive effort he puts in . . . GIANNIS ANTETOKOUNMPO will be used at both forward spots and both guard spots as well. The Greek Freak is raw, but the Bucks will expand his role . . . After a season in Larry Drew's doghouse, the coaching change should bode well for ERSAN ILYASOVA. He's likely looking at a part-time role . . . JOHN HENSON will play some 4 and 5, though his lack of an offensive game limits his appeal . . . JOHNNY O'BRYANT III might push for a rotation spot once he returns from a knee injury in late November. He's one of the few big men on this team who can score around the basket . . . If DAMIEN INGLIS comes over, he's looking at a D-League stint. CENTERS: Kidd is a LARRY SANDERS believer, so after a season filled with injuries and knucklehead behavior, he'll have every chance to bounce back. When he's in the right place, he's an elite rim protector . . . Larry Drew favorite ZAZA PACHULIA is looking at a traditional back-up role now that Drew is gone. |

*Rockets-Bucks Preview* =======================
By NOEY KUPCHAN STATS Writer
Houston (12-4) at Milwaukee (10-7), 9:00 p.m. EDT
The injuries continue to pile up for the Houston Rockets, who saw another key piece go down last time out.
Short-handed Houston tries to get back on track Saturday night when it visits the surprising Milwaukee Bucks, who are on the verge of their longest winning streak in two seasons.
The Rockets (12-4) had won three in row before falling 102-85 to the Clippers on Friday. Houston entered the game without All-Star center Dwight Howard, Terrence Jones and starting point guard Patrick Beverley before losing Beverley's replacement Isaiah Canaan to a sprained left ankle in the second quarter.
While Howard is making the trip to Milwaukee, he's expected to miss a sixth consecutive game with a knee injury. Beverley and Canaan, meanwhile, aren't traveling with the team and Jones remains out with a leg issue.
Houston was limited to 39.0 percent shooting against Los Angeles, going 10 of 37 from 3-point range.
"Right now we just have to figure out a way to knock them down," said Jason Terry, who had two points on 1-of-6 shooting. "We'd like to find a more consistent way of getting some good looks, but it is what it is. We're down bodies, we just have to scrap and claw and find a way."
James Harden finished with 16 points after averaging 31.3 over the previous three games. Canaan and Trevor Ariza scored 13 apiece while rookie Tarik Black had 11 and nine rebounds.
"We'll be alright," said Harden, whose team is 6-1 on the road. "Great bounce back game for us tomorrow, we have to be ready."
The Rockets have taken three of four from Milwaukee, including both matchups last season thanks to a combined 47 points and 27 rebounds from Howard. Jones scored a career-high 36 in a 114-104 home win Jan. 18.
The Bucks (10-7) aren't to be taken lightly after winning six of eight, including three straight by an average of 15.0 points. Milwaukee hasn't posted four consecutive victories since Feb. 26-March 4, 2013.
The Bucks return home after getting by Detroit 104-88 on Friday, their second win in the series in four days. Ersan Ilyasova posted a season-high 22 points and Jared Dudley added 16 as Milwaukee held a 69-13 edge in bench scoring.
"It's all about being unselfish," Ilyasova said. "We just shared the ball. Spreading out the floor, get opportunities and knocking down those open shots - we did a good job of doing those things. ... We're kind of on a rhythm right now. From this point it's up to us to play the same way tomorrow."
The Bucks, who didn't win their 10th game last season until Feb. 18, shot 50.6 percent and matched a season-high with 30 assists.
"I thought it was a great team effort. All 10 guys found a way to help us win," coach Jason Kidd said. "Everybody is going to find a chance to help pitch in. Going into a back-to-back that really shows the maturity of our team. Our guys are playing at a high level."
Brandon Knight came in averaging a team-leading 18.0 points before scoring a season-low six on 2-of-7 shooting. He averaged 24.5 points on 52.8 percent shooting against the Rockets last season.
Zaza Pachulia missed Friday's game for personal reasons, leaving his status for this one unclear. Fellow big man John Henson is also uncertain to be available due to a foot injury.
