| | | WASHINGTON: GUARDS: JOHN WALL has improved tremendously over the past two seasons. His physical skills are off the chart, and now he's significantly cut back on head-scratching mistakes . . . It appears that BRADLEY BEAL is becoming the perfect running mate for Wall in the short and the long term. He continues to develop off-the-dribble skills to go along with his shooting. His broken wrist is expected to fully heal by late November . . . ANDRE MILLER is in more of a mentor role in Washington. He's 38 and averaged less than 17 minutes per night last season . . . GLEN RICE JR. tore up Summer League, but it's unlikely the gunner will become an efficient scorer . . . GARRETT TEMPLE gives them a defense-first option off the bench, but his playing time will be minimal again. FORWARDS: PAUL PIERCE takes Trevor Ariza's spot at the 3. He'll have much more space to work in, not that he's ever needed it . . . The Wizards will likely play it safe with NENE HILARIO's minutes during the regular season again. They'll need him fresh for the playoffs, and they have enough frontcourt depth to do it . . . Back surgery is going to keep MARTELL WEBSTER out for a huge chunk of the season. He's a question mark even after he returns . . . After a lost rookie season, OTTO PORTER should be able to break into this rotation, especially with Webster out . . . KRIS HUMPHRIES will provide some rebounding and energy behind Nen' . . . It's incredible that DREW GOODEN is still employed. CENTERS: MARCIN GORTAT made beautiful pick-and-roll music with Wall last year. There's no reason that shouldn't continue. Gortat is a fringe All-Star . . . DeJUAN BLAIR can mix it up for 20 minutes per night, especially against smaller 5's. | | MILWAUKEE: GUARDS: The Bucks hope to fill a gaping hole at point guard with a committee approach. BRANDON KNIGHT, an undersized, athletically-overmatched combo guard, will get first crack at the job . . . Ex-Laker KENDALL MARSHALL, a heady floor general who can't shoot or defend, is an option as well . . . KHRIS MIDDLETON, a spot-up shooter, has a good chance to retain his starting job . . . New head coach Jason Kidd will try to rebuild O.J. MAYO, who could emerge as a serviceable sixth man, but looked wholly disinterested last season . . . The arrival of Marshall likely pushes NATE WOLTERS out of the rotation. He could be ticketed for the D-League at some point this season. FORWARDS: JABARI PARKER becomes the new face of this franchise. He can score as well as facilitate the offense. The only real question is what kind of defensive effort he puts in . . . GIANNIS ANTETOKOUNMPO will be used at both forward spots and both guard spots as well. The Greek Freak is raw, but the Bucks will expand his role . . . After a season in Larry Drew's doghouse, the coaching change should bode well for ERSAN ILYASOVA. He's likely looking at a part-time role . . . JOHN HENSON will play some 4 and 5, though his lack of an offensive game limits his appeal . . . JOHNNY O'BRYANT III might push for a rotation spot once he returns from a knee injury in late November. He's one of the few big men on this team who can score around the basket . . . If DAMIEN INGLIS comes over, he's looking at a D-League stint. CENTERS: Kidd is a LARRY SANDERS believer, so after a season filled with injuries and knucklehead behavior, he'll have every chance to bounce back. When he's in the right place, he's an elite rim protector . . . Larry Drew favorite ZAZA PACHULIA is looking at a traditional back-up role now that Drew is gone. |

*Wizards-Bucks Preview* =======================
Washington (7-3) at Milwaukee (7-5), 8:30 p.m. EDT
John Wall and the Washington Wizards are coming off one of their most impressive wins of the season as they look to remain perfect in the second half of back-to-back games.
That could be a problem for the surprising Milwaukee Bucks, who will complete a stretch of four games in five nights after their worst loss of the season.
Wall looks to help the Wizards improve to 4-0 in the second half of games on consecutive nights Saturday when they visit the Bucks.
Washington (8-3) cruised past Cleveland 91-78 on Friday. Wall was the catalyst thanks to his play in odd-numbered quarters with nine points in the first and 17 in the third as the Wizards held the Cavaliers to 36.0 percent shooting \2013 a season-low for an opponent.
Wall recovered from Wednesday's 105-102 loss to Dallas in which he made 5 of 17 shots for 11 points. He finished with 28 against Cleveland.
"John started (well), obviously bouncing back," coach Randy Wittman said. "He wasn't happy with his last game against Dallas. He was really aggressive from the start."
Wall is averaging 26.3 points and 8.7 assists on the second half of back-to-backs, with the Wizards beating losing teams in Orlando and Indiana twice.
"In this league, you get a good win, you want to follow it up," Wittman said. "We've got a chance with a back-to-back going to Milwaukee to really make this a good week for us, win two out of the three."
Milwaukee (7-6) likely presents a more formidable opponent than the Magic and Pacers, though the Bucks were beaten 108-97 at Washington in the first meeting Nov. 1.
That marked the first time Paul Pierce got to face Jason Kidd, the man who coached him last season in Brooklyn. It ended in ignominious fashion for Pierce, who was ejected in the first half.
The Wizards were without an injured Bradley Beal in that contest. Beal has returned to average 16.5 points in two games off the bench after being out following left wrist surgery.
Beal's 24.8 scoring average against Milwaukee is his highest against any Eastern Conference foe.
The Bucks entered play Friday with the NBA's highest-scoring bench, averaging 46.0 points. Milwaukee ran into a buzzsaw in losing 124-83 at Toronto, setting season lows in points and field-goal percentage (36.5). Its reserves matched their average with 46 points, though little else went right as the club trailed by as many as 52.
"They embarrassed us," forward Jared Dudley said. "Early on we were a little sluggish. They came out and executed."
Milwaukee swept a back-to-back set Tuesday at home over New York and Wednesday in triple overtime at Brooklyn. Kidd said fatigue was not an excuse.
"We didn't do anything but travel yesterday, so I don't think that was an issue," he said.
Giannis Antetokounmpo, who injured his right ankle in the win against the Nets, was not expected to play after testing the injury during pregame warmups. He scored seven points in 15 first-half minutes and sat out the second half.
The Bucks seek their first four-game home win streak since the first four games of 2011-12.
